Unknown or The Unknown may refer to:
For Ireland, I'd Not Say Her Name Although the author may be unknown, it is thought a school master from Kerry, Fínín Ó Scannáil, composed the song in 1810 The lyrics are supposedly written from the eyes of a preacher who fell in love with his brother's wife. And even if he was given Ireland in its entirity, he would not tell the name of the person he loved - hence, For Ireland, I'll Not Tell Her Name. A more beautiful tune I don't think was ever written. The Gaelic lyrics are below also. I did not want to ruin the beautiful melody with my voice. Last[D] eve as I[G] wandered quiet[D] near, To the border's of[G] my little[A] farm, A[G] beautifull maiden ap[D]peared, Whoes lovelyness[G] caused my heart's[D] harm, By her daring and[G] love smitten sour, And the[D] words fr...
A very famous Slow Air played by Sean Folsom on Irish Uilleann Bagpipes. In Irish Gaelic the title is: "Ar Eirinn Ni Neosfainn Ce Hi" in English: "For Ireland I'll Not Tell Her Name" (this is minus the all the Fada marks). This Air is also known in Scotland as the Air "Tweedside" ( i.e. on the Banks of the River Tweed). It is in James Johnson's "Scots Musical Museum" published at Edinburgh, in 6 volumes 1787-1803. I first heard this Air on an LP record by the group "Na Fili", back in 1973. They did a very good rendition of it, that has stayed with me ever since then.
