"The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.
This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean's "American Pie," a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope." - Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer

A Kentwood police officer who fatally shot a man in April will not face charges. In a 15-page release, Kent County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Forsyth says Officer Darrin Cline acted in defense of another officer. Officer Cline shot and killed Lamont Gulley shortly after arriving to a domestic call just before 9 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Pheasant Ridge Apartments. Police say when they arrived on the scene, they noticed a large amount of blood through a window of the home. When officers made entry, they found Casey Kempker, 41, with severe injuries. The officers administered first-aid, but she died at the scene.
Kempker's husband, Gulley, fled the home before officers arrived. He was seen by an officer at Edington Drive and Breton Road. Officers responded to the area and confronted him. Gulley had a knife in his possession and made threatening statements. After multiple attempts to take him into custody, he continued to resist. Forsyth says Officer Cline knew Gulley was dangerous. "He knows he stabbed somebody, he knows he fled the scene, he knows he's told him numerous times to drop the knife and said just shoot me, so he's acting irrational." Gulley made threatening movements towards the officers and was shot by Officer Cline. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Grand Rapids is home to many unique destination neighborhoods. Experience Grand Rapids highlights what makes each of them different. This was to be the first of a series, however after its release questions surfaced about the level of diversity in the video. Given the nature of the comments we reached out to our community partners, including members of our Board of Directors and our Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and made the decision to delay further video releases until we could thoroughly review the situation. As an organization, we continue to work on our cultural competency and will reflect that in all further efforts.

Grand Rapids, Michigan
Grand Rapids is the second-largest city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the largest city in West Michigan. It is located on the Grand River about 30 miles east of Lake Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 188,040. In 2010, the Grand Rapids metropolitan area had a population of 1,005,648, and the combined statistical area of Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland had a population of 1,321,557. Grand Rapids is the county seat of Kent County, Michigan.
A historic furniture-manufacturing center, Grand Rapids is still home to five of the world's leading office furniture companies, and is nicknamed Furniture City. Its more common modern nickname of River City refers to the landmark river for which it was named. The city and surrounding communities are economically diverse, based in the health care, information technology, automotive, aviation, and consumer goods manufacturing industries, among others.
Grand Rapids is the hometown of U.S. President Gerald Ford, who is buried with his wife Betty on the grounds of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in the city.

Rapids
Rapids are sections of a river where the river bed has a relatively steep gradient, causing an increase in water velocity and turbulence. Rapids are hydrological features between a run (a smoothly flowing part of a stream) and a cascade. Rapids are characterised by the river becoming shallower with some rocks exposed above the flow surface. As flowing water splashes over and around the rocks, air bubbles become mixed in with it and portions of the surface acquire a white colour, forming what is called "whitewater". Rapids occur where the bed material is highly resistant to the erosive power of the stream in comparison with the bed downstream of the rapids. Very young streams flowing across solid rock may be rapids for much of their length.
Rapids are categorized in classes, generally running from I to VI. A Class 5 rapid may be categorized as Class 5.1-5.9. While class I rapids are easy to negotiate and require no maneuvering, class VI rapids pose threat to life with little or no chance for rescue.

Donald John Trump, Sr. (born June 14, 1946) is an American businessperson and media personality. "The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.
This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. A Kentwood police officer who fatally shot a man in April will not face charges. In a 15-page release, Kent County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Forsyth says Officer Darrin Cline acted in defense of another officer. Officer Cline shot and killed Lamont Gulley shortly after arriving to a domestic call just before 9 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Pheasant Ridge Apartments. Police say when they arrived on the scene, they noticed a large amount of blood through a window of the home. When officers made entry, they found Casey Kempker, 41, with severe injuries. The officers administered first-aid, but she died at the scene.
Kempker's husband, Gulley, fled the home before officers arrived. He was seen by an officer at Edington Drive and Breton Road. Officers responded to the area and confronted him. Gulley had a knife in his possession and made threatening statements. After multiple attempts to take him into custody, he continued to resist. Forsyth says Officer Cline knew Gulley was dangerous. "He knows he stabbed somebody, he knows he fled the scene, he knows he's told him numerous times to drop the knife and said just shoot me, so he's acting irrational." Gulley made threatening movements towards the officers and was shot by Officer Cline. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.
