Gramophone record
A gramophone record (phonograph record in American English) or vinyl record, commonly known as a "record", is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat polyvinyl chloride (previously shellac) disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. Phonograph records are generally described by their diameter in inches (12", 10", 7"), the rotational speed in rpm at which they are played (16 2⁄3, 33 1⁄3, 45, 78), and their time capacity resulting from a combination of those parameters (LP – long playing 33 1⁄3 rpm, SP – 78 rpm single, EP – 12-inch single or extended play, 33 or 45 rpm); their reproductive quality or level of fidelity (high-fidelity, orthophonic, full-range, etc.), and the number of audio channels provided (mono, stereo, quad, etc.).
The phonograph disc record was the primary medium used for music reproduction until late in the 20th century, replacing the phonograph cylinder record, with which it had co-existed, by the 1920s. By the late 1980s, digital media, in the form of the compact disc, had gained a larger market share, and the vinyl record left the mainstream in 1991. After its fall, records continued to be manufactured and sold, and have been especially used by disc jockeys and many audiophiles for various types of music. The phonograph record has made a niche resurgence in the early 21st century – 9.2 million records were sold in the U.S. in 2014, a 260% increase since 2009. Likewise, in the UK sales have increased five-fold from 2009 to 2014.

Orange peel (effect)
Orange peel is a certain kind of finish that may develop on painted and cast surfaces, even screen protectors. The texture resembles the surface of the skin of an orange. Gloss paint sprayed on a smooth surface (such as the body of a car) should also dry into a smooth surface. However, various factors can cause it to dry into a bumpy surface resembling the texture of an orange peel. The orange peel phenomenon can then be smoothed out with ultra-fine sandpaper, but it can be prevented altogether by changing the painting technique or the materials used. Orange peel is typically the result of improper painting technique, and is caused by the quick evaporation of thinner, incorrect spray gun setup (e.g., low air pressure or incorrect nozzle), spraying the paint at an angle other than perpendicular, or applying excessive paint.
In some situations, such as interior house paint, the orange peel texture is generally desirable. In this case, a texture paint is generally applied with a spray gun. The texture is then painted over with the appropriate color. When painting walls, orange peel can also develop by using a roller with too little paint or too thick a paint and the surface dries before the texture can level.

1905 EXCELSIOR RECORD 78rpm Talkophone Label Played On Victor Type D Phonograph
Here is an early record label that does not surface very often. This is the very short lived single sided Excelsior Record produced for the Talkophone Company of Toledo, Ohio featuring "The Deed Of The Pen" by the Imperial Orchestra. The label features a very interesting depiction of a knight climbing successively larger stacks of records while carrying a banner indicating 'EXCELSIOR'. The implication is that the Excelsior Record represents the very pinnacle of all records. Emblazened on the label top is the impressive phrase "FOR ANY DISC TALKING MACHINE". I must admit that I was impressed when I first listened to the recording as the surface is very quiet. I selected my Victor type D to play the record since it was handy. I'm pretty sure most of us have asked ourselves this question, right? I mean, records all look the same and work in a similar way. You can even play some 78 records on certain modern decks.
So can you play a modern vinyl on an old gramophone player?
There's only ONE WAY to find out - and I'm going to attempt what none of you should do at home. First we need a sacrificial vinyl, and I couldn't think of one better :) Sorry Cliff

Conclusion: Yes, sort of. It worked way better than I had imagined it would. The speed is wrong as a single is 45 rpm and the old gramophone records were 78 rpm. So even when I turned the speed as far down as it would go it was still too fast. Also, notice the metal needle working it's way through the vinyl? Even if I could adjust the speed to 45 rpm the vinyl record wouldn't last more than a handful of plays before it was totally destroyed.

Rubbing orange peels onto your skin will have a similar effect if you don’t have time to make the spray.
- DIY aroma candle: scented candles add a special aroma twist to your house and home. To make one of those yourself, cut the orange in half. Remove all of its contents, carefully leaving the stem intact. Then, fill the peel bowl with any cooking oil you like. Use the stem as a natural wick. Voila – your house will now smell like oranges, and it won’t cost you a cent.

Without any doubt, Homemade Candied Orange Peel is the little gem of deliciousness you can ever make at home. The peels taste like magnificent jellied candy with a jewel-translucent crisp texture. The orange peels are boiled in a simple syrup, may takes a bit of time to make but the process is simple and worth it.
RECIPE
400g Orange Peels
1 kg Sugar
1 Litre Water
50g Light Corn Syrup
NOTE:
⚠️ The candying process vary from 6-10 days (depending on size, thickness and types of oranges)
⚠️ This recipe requires 400g peels, about 7 medium-large sized orange
UPDATE:
⚠️ If you have refractometer, the orange peels are done once reaching 72 brix**

I'm pretty sure most of us have asked ourselves this question, right? I mean, records all look the same and work in a similar way. You can even play some 78 records on certain modern decks.
So can you play a modern vinyl on an old gramophone player?
There's only ONE WAY to find out - and I'm going to attempt what none of you should do at home. First we need a sacrificial vinyl, and I couldn't think of one better :) Sorry Cliff
** Records WERE harmed in the making of this film! No NOT attempt this at home! **
Conclusion: Yes, sort of. It worked way better than I had imagined it would. The speed is wrong as a single is 45 rpm and the old gramophone records were 78 rpm. So even when I turned the speed as far down as it would go it was still too fast. Also, notice the metal needle working it's way through the vinyl? Even if I could adjust the speed to 45 rpm the vinyl record wouldn't last more than a handful of plays before it was totally destroyed.

Here is an early record label that does not surface very often. This is the very short lived single sided Excelsior Record produced for the Talkophone Company of Toledo, Ohio featuring "The Deed Of The Pen" by the Imperial Orchestra. The label features a very interesting depiction of a knight climbing successively larger stacks of records while carrying a banner indicating 'EXCELSIOR'. The implication is that the Excelsior Record represents the very pinnacle of all records. Emblazened on the label top is the impressive phrase "FOR ANY DISC TALKING MACHINE". I must admit that I was impressed when I first listened to the recording as the surface is very quiet. I selected my Victor type D to play the record since it was handy. You'll forgive the motor noise as this is typical for the very earliest Victor Talking Machine motors. Thanks for stopping in and I hope that you enjoy the video.
