From the famous Irish pipe-maker, Peterson "Old Dublin" is an English/Balkan blend containing Latakia, Virginias, Black Cavendish, and Orientals including Greek Basma. Reminiscent of Dunhill "My Mixture 965" in its flavor profile and component tobaccos, it still has a unique taste all its own. What did Bradley think of it? Find out!
From the tin: "This traditional mixture of the finest Latakias, Turkish Oriental, and Virginia leaf is slow-burning, cool and still blended by hand."

Rattray's "Old Gowrie," previously blended in Perth, Scotland, but now blended in Germany by Kohlhase & Kopp is the subject of quite a bit of debate. The old version was definitely a straight Virginia blend, but the K&K; version is listed as a Virginia/Perique blend. Many smokers refuse to believe that the new version contains Perique, but here at Stuff&Things, we're pretty sure that it does, though only a small amount. We assume it was added to the blend to make up for the lack of the well-aged Virginias once used in the mixture when it was produced in Scotland.
We're calling this a VA/Per (Virginia/Perique mixture), but you can call it a straight Virginia if you want. The Perique content is so low, it's hardly noticeable. Regardless of what we call it, can it be called a quality blend? Find out now!

Old Tobacco
Old Tobacco was the English name given to a Piankeshaw chief who lived near Post Vincennes during the American Revolution.
Old Tobacco may have been the father of an influential chief known as Young Tobacco.
When Captain Leonard Helm came to Vincennes representing Colonel George Rogers Clark, he imitated Clark's presentation in Cahokia by presenting two belts for the Piankeshaw to choose from: a red belt representing war and a green one representing peace. Old Tobacco was upset with the presentation of good and evil together, and he kicked the belts from Helm's hands.
At some point, Old Tobacco sold land farther north on the Wabash River, where Wea villages were located. When Lt-Governor Henry Hamilton led an expedition to Vincennes in 1778, he received several complaints from native villages about Old Tobacco.
Other natives informed Hamilton that both Old Tobacco and Young Tobacco favored the Americans against the British. If Old Tobacco committed any acts of resistance to the British crown, Hamilton did not record it in his journal.

Tobacco Girl
Fourteen-year-old Mümine lives with her family in the mountains of Macedonia, members of the Yörüks, a tradition-rich Turkish group of people. During her break from school, Mümine joins her parents and siblings in the field and, as they work together each day, she begins to chafe against the more traditional views of her mother and father who want to marry her off to a young man in the village. It’s the traditional way and the family would benefit from the dowry, but Mümine resists, holding on to being a teenager while dreaming of completing school and leaving the tobacco fields behind.
