Sugar Crisp Cereal Mummy Bear TV Television Commercial from 1992.
Golden Crisp is a breakfast cereal made by Post Cereals which consists of sweetened, candy-coated puffed wheat. It was introduced in the US in 1947.[1]
At the 1904 World Fair, the Quaker Oats Company made a candy-coated puffed cereal, a wheat-based product similar to Cracker Jack's candy-coated popcorn. The product concept was re-introduced unsuccessfully in 1939 by another business as Ranger Joe, the first pre-sweetened, candy-coated breakfast cereal. Post Foods introduced their own version in 1948. The Post version was originally called Happy Jax, and was renamed to Sugar Crisp the next year.[2] The name was later changed to Super Sugar Crisp, and in 1985, it was changed again to Super Golden Crisp.[3] Finally, it was changed to Golden Crisp (during a time when many cereals dropped the word "Sugar" from their titles) in the American market.
In the early 1970s, there was a short-lived variation on the original Sugar Crisp, called Super Orange Crisp, which had orange-flavored O's in it.[4]
The product is still sold as Sugar Crisp in Canada. In Canada, the box still displays the Sugar Bear mascot and the phrase "Can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp."
Advertisements in the 1950s positioned this sugar cereal as being appropriate to eat for breakfast, as a snack, or as candy, similar to candy-coated popcorn products like Cracker Jack.[2] Early advertisements featured three animated cartoon bears named Candy, Handy, and Dandy as the mascots. The early slogan said, "As a cereal it's dandy—for snacks it's so handy—or eat it like candy!"[2]
Later television advertisements feature one mascot, an anthropomorphic cartoon bear character known as Sugar Bear, who sings the jingle, "Can't get enough of that Golden Crisp.", to the tune of In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg. In commercials, Sugar Bear could turn into "Super Bear" upon eating it. This was dropped in the mid-late 1980s, where he would simply defeat his foes with a "vitamin-packed punch" as Sugar Bear. The jingle was also appended to include "it's got the crunch with punch", although this was dropped in later years. Sugar Bear's voice, provided by Gerry Matthews for forty years, was reminiscent of Bing Crosby or Dean Martin.
The focus of advertising shifted from targeting children to including parents, by downplaying the sweet taste (and associated sugar content).

Sugar Bear
Sugar Bear is the advertising cartoon mascot of Post Super Sugar Crisp (later Golden Crisp) cereal, appearing in commercials for the cereal.
History
Sugar Bear originally appeared in the 1940s as the mascot of Golden Crisp (then called Sugar Crisp), a cereal produced by General Foods Corporation under the Post brand. The original bear was designed by Robert "Bob" Irwin, a graphic designer for Post Cereal and voiced, in animated commercials, for 40 years by Gerry Matthews in emulation of a Dean Martin or Bing Crosby persona – a shallow-eyed, easy going character who crooned his cereal's praises to the tune of "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho".
He was made a character in the 1964 Saturday morning cartoon Linus the Lionhearted. Most of the characters in the series, sponsored by General Foods, were mascots for Post cereal products (permitted at that time, later banned by the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC)).
Sugar Bear normally wore a blue turtleneck sweater with his name on the front, and in the 1980s a bite of Super Sugar Crisp would turn him into the muscular "Super Bear" (this alter ego was used to fight monsters who would steal the cereal). Several commercials in the mid 1980s had him using mere casual gestures to outsmart the aggressive tendencies of other animals. Examples include 1987 spots featuring Sugar Bear riding an elephant into a jungle of feisty tigers, playing matador to a raging bull, romping with a rhinoceros, and sparring with irate sharks of the ocean.

Sugar Bear was voiced by Gerry Matthews for 40 years. From the 1964-1966, Sugar Bear appeared in the Saturday morning cartoon Linus the Lionhearted. Most of the characters in the series, sponsored by General Foods, were mascots for Post cereal products. Sugar Crisp has undergone drastic changes in marketing over the years, including changing the name to Super Sugar Crisp, and then Super Golden Crisp, and finally to the current name Golden Crisp (during a time when many cereals dropped the word "Sugar" from their titles). Sugar Bear’s consistent nemesis was an elderly woman called Granny Goodwitch; the two would engage in elaborate contests, often involving trickery, magic and high technology. The product is still sold as Sugar Crisp in Canada. In Canada, the box still displays the Sugar Bear mascot and the phrase "Can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp."
Advertisements in the 1950s positioned this sugar cereal as being appropriate to eat for breakfast, as a snack, or as candy, similar to candy-coated popcorn products like Cracker Jack.[2] Early advertisements featured three animated cartoon bears named Candy, Handy, and Dandy as the mascots. The early slogan said, "As a cereal it's dandy—for snacks it's so handy—or eat it like candy!"[2]
Later television advertisements feature one mascot, an anthropomorphic cartoon bear character known as Sugar Bear, who sings the jingle, "Can't get enough of that Golden Crisp.", to the tune of In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg. In commercials, Sugar Bear could turn into "Super Bear" upon eating it. This was dropped in the mid-late 1980s, where he would simply defeat his foes with a "vitamin-packed punch" as Sugar Bear. The jingle was also appended to include "it's got the crunch with punch", although this was dropped in later years. Sugar Bear's voice, provided by Gerry Matthews for forty years, was reminiscent of Bing Crosby or Dean Martin.
The focus of advertising shifted from targeting children to including parents, by downplaying the sweet taste (and associated sugar content).

Ah the miracle of life! I went from having one glider, to two, to four in a matter of months. I didn't quite expect these two little munchkins, but I couldn't be happier that they came along. First off, I think I should give a disclaimer: This is a video of a sugar glider's "pregnancy" through "birth." So yes - you will see sugar glider anatomy. If you are uncomfortable with this I suggest you do not watch. Also, I want to explain a few things that some people may not know about sugar gliders. Some practices of Crip gang life generally include rapping, graffiti and substitutions and deletions of particular letters of the alphabet. The letter "b" in the word "blood" will be "disrespected" among certain sets and written with a cross inside it because of its association with the enemy. The letters "CK", which stand for "Crip killer", will be avoided and substituted with a double "cc", and the letter "b" will be replaced. The words "kick back" will instead be written as "kicc bkacc". Many other letters are also altered due to symbolic associations. Crips traditionally refer to each other as "Cuzz", which itself is sometimes used as a moniker for Crip. "Crab" is the most disrespectful epithet to call a Crip, and can warrant fatal retaliation. Crips in prison modules during the 1970s and 80s would speak in Kiswahili to maintain privacy among guards and rival gangs.

Ah the miracle of life! I went from having one glider, to two, to four in a matter of months. I didn't quite expect these two little munchkins, but I couldn't be happier that they came along.
First off, I think I should give a disclaimer: This is a video of a sugar glider's "pregnancy" through "birth." So yes - you will see sugar glider anatomy. If you are uncomfortable with this I suggest you do not watch.
Also, I want to explain a few things that some people may not know about sugar gliders. They are marsupials - meaning that they come from the family of pouch animals like koala bears and kangaroos. A female's gestation period is about 16 days. After that she will give birth to either one or two (sometimes three) joeys that are about the size of a grain of rice. I did witness the actual birth but did not get it on camera. After the birth the joeys crawl up to the mother's pouch and spend about the next 8 or 9 weeks in the pouch developing. At 9 weeks (sometimes earlier or later) the joeys will officially come out of the pouch. This is considered a sugar glider's birth date even though it is not the actual birth.
In the video I have captured the joeys in pouch from about 2 weeks to out of pouch 2 weeks. So approximately 9 weeks of footage.
Why am I feeding one of the joeys?
Unfortunately Lucy rejected one of her babies (Liam). We are not sure why - it could be that she simply was not producing enough milk to sustain both. She repeatedly kicked him out of the nest and after about the third time of trying to re-introduce them unsuccessfully I made the decision to pull him and hand-raise. I do not suggest doing this unless it is absolutely necessary (as it was in my case). I am very lucky that he survived. I have been hand-feeding him for 2 weeks every single hour 24/7. It is no easy task. The rest of the time he stays snuggled in my bra to maintain body heat and mimic the environment of a sugar glider's pouch.
I also want to mention that Lucy (the mama) was calm and relaxed while I was handling her because we have a very bonded relationship. I adopted Lucy when she was eight weeks old and she has been with me ever since. After three and a half years she trusts me. This is why she doesn't have a problem with me handling her or the joeys. If this were not the case, doing so could cause her stress.
Finally - both my male and female gliders have over eight generations of lineage. I do not suggest breeding sugar gliders without having lineage as it could result in inbreeding and the loss of joeys or joeys with health problems.
