: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a charge sheet against six suspected operatives of the IS for allegedly conspiring to carry out terror strikes in the Capital and neighbouring regions during the Ardh Kumbh mela in Haridwar in January.
The Agency filed the chargesheet in the court of District Judge Amarnath of the Patiala House district courts against MohsinIbrahim Sayyed, Akhlakur Rehman, Mohd Osama, Mohd Azeemushan, Mohd Mehraz and Yosuf Al-Hindi under Sections 120 (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The Judge took the charge sheet on record and posted the matter for consideration on August 25.
However, the NIA did not charge sheet one of the accused.
The Special Cell had lodged the case against them on January 18. Later, the Union Home Ministry had transferred it to the NIA.
The charge sheet said the members of the gang were in touch through mobile phone and social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Surespot, Twitter, Trillian, Skype and Facebook.
“Their (accused) association with each other is established on the recovery of matchstick material that was to be used for assembling of Improvised Explosive Devices,’’ the chargesheet alleged.
“They were conspiring to create terror in the minds of people of India,” the chargesheet further said.
