Fernando Poe is the name of:
Allan Fernando Poe y Reyes (November 27, 1916 – October 23, 1951) better known by his stage name Fernando Poe or Fernando Poe Sr. was a Filipino actor during the early cinema era in the Philippines. He is of Spanish descent.
Poe was the father of Fernando Poe, Jr., who later became a prominent actor and icon. Prior to his son's rise to fame, Poe had been known simply as Fernando Poe. Since then, he had been named Fernando Poe, Sr. to distinguish him from his son. He directed the first Darna film in 1951 before he died in the same year. As a leading man, he was often cast opposite Mona Lisa.
Fernando Poe of San Carlos City, Pangasinan had six children by his 2nd wife, Irish-American Elizabeth "Bessie" Gatbonton Kelley of Pampanga, namely Elizabeth, Ronald Allan (Ronnie or FPJ), Fernando II (Andy), Genevieve (Jenny), Fredrick (Freddieboy), and Evangeline. Poe and Kelly were married in 1940 after their first two children were born. Actor Conrad Poe was his illegitimate son by actress Patricia Mijares.
Ronald Allan Kelley Poe (August 20, 1939 – December 14, 2004), better known as Fernando Poe, Jr. and colloquially known as FPJ and Da King, was a Filipino actor. During the latter part of his career, Poe was defeated by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the 2004 Philippine presidential elections. His long career as an action film star earned him the nickname "King of Philippine Movies" (often shortened to Da King).
Poe was posthumously declared a National Artist of the Philippines for Film on May 23, 2006 by President Macapagal-Arroyo. The award was confirmed by President Benigno Aquino III on July 20, 2012, and was presented to his family on August 16.
Ronald Allan K. Poe was the son of Filipino actor Allan Fernando Poe y Reyes (Fernando Poe, Sr.) and Elizabeth "Bessie" Kelley, an American. He was born in Manila. His parents were not yet legally married when he was born on August 20, 1939, although his parents were later married in 1940. His political opponents tried to derail his bid for the 2004 Philippine presidency when they sought to disqualify him as an illegitimate son of a non-Filipino mother. He was the second among six siblings and it was his brother Andy (Fernando II) who was really named Fernando Poe, Jr. which FPJ later adopted, to bank on the popularity of his father who was a top actor in his time. Conrad Poe, a Filipino actor is FPJ's half-brother, the illegitimate son of the late Fernando Poe Sr. and actress Patricia Mijares.
Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share. The organization has released several copyright-licenses known as Creative Commons licenses free of charge to the public. These licenses allow creators to communicate which rights they reserve, and which rights they waive for the benefit of recipients or other creators. An easy-to-understand one-page explanation of rights, with associated visual symbols, explains the specifics of each Creative Commons license. Creative Commons licenses do not replace copyright, but are based upon it. They replace individual negotiations for specific rights between copyright owner (licensor) and licensee, which are necessary under an "all rights reserved" copyright management, with a "some rights reserved" management employing standardized licenses for re-use cases where no commercial compensation is sought by the copyright owner. The result is an agile, low-overhead and low-cost copyright-management regime, profiting both copyright owners and licensees. Wikipedia uses one of these licenses.
Clarita Villarba Rivera (born May 12, 1923), better known as Mila del Sol, is a Filipina film actress, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Del Sol was born in Tondo, Manila. She gained fame in her very first lead role in the 1939 film Giliw Ko. She had been discovered by LVN Pictures President Doña Sisang de Leon, who insisted in casting her over the objections of the film's director, who felt she was too young for the part. It was the film's director, Carlos Vander Tolosa, who gave her the screen name "Mila del Sol", for "causing the sun (sol) to appear as if by miracle (milagro) over his otherwise overcast set whenever she was called in to do her scenes".
Film production shut down during the Japanese occupation and was restored only in 1945. Del Sol returned to LVN and starred in its production of Manuel Conde's Orasang Ginto, the first post-war Filipino film. She starred in other LVN films of the 1940s, including Ibong Adarna (1949) and Villa Hermosa.
Del Sol retired from films to raise a family in the 1950s, but staged a comeback in 1960 with two films released that year, Pakipot and Tatlong Magdalena. The following year, she starred in an international production, Espionage Far East, and later starred in a long-running television series. She began her career as an entrepreneur in 1964, and focused on philanthropic work from the 1970s onward.
Here's a romantic song clip from the movie Giliw Ko(1939) starring Fernando Poe Sr. and Mila del Sol. Giliw Ko is a romantic musical, in the tradition of the zarzuela, typical of the era and features such classic songs as Tunay na Tunay and Ang Buhay ng Artista. The story centers around Mila del Sol, who plays a barrio lass dreaming of a singing career on radio (a novelty at that time) in Manila. Although quite fond of her childhood sweetheart, Fernando Poe Sr., she becomes infatuated with the son of their hacienda landlord, Ely Ramos, who happens to be a successful musician. He takes Mila t o Manila to make her a popular radio singer. Although her first radio broadcast is a success, the naive probinsiyana is disheartened to know that Ely is already engaged to a pretty Manila socialite...
U.S. version. Philippine version titled "Sagur". Fernando Poe, Sr. sings "The Merry Hunter's Song". He plays Sultan Caleb of a Muslim kingdom on an "unknown island" somewhere in the South Seas with elephants, monkeys and crocs.
Giliw Ko was the first film produced by the newly formed LVN Pictures, Inc. in 1938 and subsequently released in 1939 with no less than President Manuel Quezon attending the film's premiere at the Metropolitan Theater. The film stars top matinee idols of the time, Fernando Poe Sr. and Ely Ramos. Completing the cast are newcomers Mila del Sol and Fleur de Lis, who later changed her screen name to Mona Lisa. "Zamboanga" was directed by my grandfather, Marvin Gardner in his native Philippines in 1936. His screen name was Eduardo De Castro. Thought lost forever, it was found in 2003? by Philippine filmmaker Nick de Ocampo at the US Library of Congress. (The copy came from Finland, hence the subtitles.) It stars Fernando Poe, Sr., the father of Fernando Poe, Jr., Philippine actor and presidential candidate. It is the oldest Filipino feature film known to exist. It was produced by Americans Tait and Harris and intended for American audiences. I have read that it was the first Filipino film entered in the Oscar Awards, but I'm still researching that. I had never even hoped to see any of my grandfather's work, as we thought it was all destroyed during WWII. The original film is now back in the Phili...
