Enduro race

An enduro race is an inexpensive type of automobile racing that takes place mostly on oval tracks. Enduro takes its name from "Endurance racing" since it consists of hundreds of laps around the oval.

Vehicle

It involves stock based cars that had their interior and side or rear windows removed but mostly stock mechanically. A driver is disqualified if post-race inspection finds that their auto had major racing enhancements. Some enduros, often called 'jalopy enduros', feature cars rescued from a wrecking yard and repaired to barely running condition solely for the purpose of the race. In this case, the prize may be awarded to the last man standing, if all the other competitors break down during the event.

Enduro racing is sometimes divided into two classes: big-car and small-car. Big-car races feature full-size (usually American) cars with larger 6- and 8-cylinder engines, while small-car races feature mid-size to sub-compact (often Japanese) 4-cylinder makes and models.

Format

The races are usually long ones with many often 100 competitors who start three wide. The cars often take up most of the oval and they start from a standing start. It is common for races to be hundreds of laps or over 50 miles (90 km) long. Most enduro races occur at the amateur level and often feature up to $1000 (U.S.) prize money. Events rarely are canceled even in bad weather (rain or snow).

Red Bull

Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, created in 1987. In terms of market share, Red Bull is the highest-selling energy drink in the world, with 5.387 billion cans sold in 2013.

Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first invented and sold in Thailand. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners, and, in partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thai, daeng means red, and krating is the large bovine called "gaur". Red Bull is sold in a tall and slim blue-silver can, while Krating Daeng is in a gold shorter can. The two are different products, produced separately.

The Red Bull company slogan is "Red Bull gives you wings", and the product is marketed through advertising, events (Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, Red Bull Air Race, Red Bull Crashed Ice), sports team ownerships (RB Leipzig, FC Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull Brasil, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro Rosso), celebrity endorsements, and music, through its record label Red Bull Records.

Bull

A bull is an intact (i.e., not castrated) adult male of the species Bos taurus (cattle). More muscular and aggressive than the female of the species, the cow, the bull has long been an important symbol in many cultures, and plays a significant role in both beef and dairy farming, and in a variety of other cultural activities.

Nomenclature

The female counterpart to a bull is a cow, while a male of the species which has been castrated is a steer, ox or bullock, although in North America this last term refers to a young bull, and in Australia to a draught animal. Usage of these terms varies considerably with area and dialect. Colloquially, people unfamiliar with cattle may refer to both castrated and intact animals as "bulls".

A wild, young, unmarked bull is known as a micky in Australia. Improper or late castration on a bull results in it becoming a coarse steer, also known as a stag in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. In some countries an incompletely castrated male is known also as a rig or ridgling.

Enduro

Enduro is a form of motorcycle sport run on courses that are mostly off-road. Enduro consists of many different obstacles and challenges. The main type of enduro event, and the format to which the World Enduro Championship is run, is a time-card enduro, whereby a number of stages are raced in a time trial against the clock.

Time-keeping enduros

In a traditional time-keeping enduro, riders leave together in groups or rows, and each row starts at a certain minute. The object of the event is to arrive at pre-defined locations according to a strict schedule. Early or late arrivals result in the riders' scores being penalized. Throughout a day there will also be allocated periods for refuelling and servicing the machine. Penalties apply for not meeting defined times or for outside-assistance when not permitted.

A world championship course must be at least 200 km and a maximum of 30% of its length can be on asphalt roads. American Motorcycle Association (AMA) rules are different with respect to course length and other variables (i.e. average speed, terrain type, etc.). The rules of the regional sanctioning body can also affect the rules for a particular enduro course.

Graham Jarvis

Graham Powley Jarvis (August 25, 1930 – April 16, 2003) was a Canadian character actor in American films and television from the 1960s to the early 2000s.

Life and career

Jarvis was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Margaret Biddulph (Scratcherd) and William Henry Reginald Jarvis, an investment banker and president of John Labatt Ltd. His maternal great-grandfather was businessman and brewer John Labatt, whose own father was Labatt founder John Kinder Labatt. He attended Williams College before moving to New York to pursue a career in theater.

Jarvis starred in the television soap opera parody Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman as Charlie "Baby Boy" Haggers, the much older husband of wanna-be country music star Loretta Haggers, played by Mary Kay Place. He also appeared on other television programs such as Naked City, Route 66, N.Y.P.D., All in the Family, M*A*S*H, Mork & Mindy, Starsky and Hutch, Cagney and Lacey, Fame, Married... with Children, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Get a Life, The X Files, ER, and Six Feet Under. He also played character roles in many films. His last major part was as "Charles Jackson", father of Annie Jackson Camden in the Warner Brothers TV drama 7th Heaven, a role that he filled until his death.
