Purchase Alice here: http://bit.ly/183nWmL While the show remained firmly ensconced at the top of the rating charts, Alice's fourth season saw some big changes coming to the staff of Mel's. Polly Holiday's Flo proved an irresistible spin-off lure, and she departed for Flo's Yellow Rose partway through the season. Filling in for Flo for the remainder of the season was no less a talent than original Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore film Flo, Diane Ladd, playing "Belle," former Mel employee and former flame. And Alice continued its grand dining tradition of putting celebs on the menu -- found playing themselves this season are both Telly AND George Savalas, Art Carney (Vera's cousin!), and Dinah Shore (hosting Mel -- and his chili! -- on her talk show!). Talk show host Joe Franklin sat down with various celebrities to do new interviews for his 40th Anniversary Special, which aired on WOR-TV in New York on July 17, 1989. His interview with actor Telly Savalas (TV's Kojak) came about quite by chance since he just ran into him at a hotel. They'd worked together at a radio station in New York 40 years earlier and Savalas mentions that Howard Cosell worked with them also. Savalas also describes how "Kojak" benefited from a New York cast that went out to Hollywood to make it. This is followed by brief well-wishing bits from Chuck McCann and Stella Stevens and then a brief sitdown with comic Gilbert Gottfried who continues in another segment also on this channel (Joe Franklin and Gilbert Gottfried).

If a picture paints a thousand words
Then why can't I paint you?
The words will never show
The you I've come to know.
And if a face could launch a thousand ships
Then where am I to go?
There's no one home but you;
You're all that's left me
too.
And when my love for life is running dry
You come and pour yourself on me.
If a man could be two places at one time
I'd be with you tomorrow and today
beside you all the way.
If the world should stop revolving
spinning
spinning slowly down to die
I'd spend the end with you
And when the world was through
Then one by one the stars would all go out
