Satyakam is a 1969 Indian Hindi film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, based on a Bengali novel of the same name by Narayan Sanyal. The film stars Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Sanjeev Kumar, and Ashok Kumar. The music for this film is given by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
After the success of Anupama (1966), Hrishikesh Mukherjee got together the same team of actors: Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, David (actor); dialogue writer: Rajinder Singh Bedi; lyricist: Kaifi Azmi and cameraman: Jaywant Pathare.
This is considered to be Dharmendra's finest acting performance of his career. In addition its director Hrishikesh Mukherjee names this film as his favourite film. This speaks volumes of the film considering that the renowned director has made several memorable movies like Anand, Bawarchi, Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke and Khoobsurat.
It won 1971 Filmfare Best Dialogue Award for Rajinder Singh Bedi. The movie also won National Film Award For Best Feature Film in Hindi.
The story begins in 1946, just a year before India’s independence. People's minds are filled with a genuine anticipation of positive change. For some like Satyapriya Acharya (Dharmendra)India’s forthcoming independence spells a paradigm shift towards a sympathetic-rationalism that would take India’s populace from rags to riches. Satyapriya's conviction is guided by his ascetic grandfather 'Daddaji' Satyasharan Acharya (Ashok Kumar)'s world views, whose pursuit of truth has led to him living in isolation in a Gurukula studying religious philosophy and observing a variety of rigid rituals.

Laxmikant–Pyarelal were a popular Indian composer duo, consisting of Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar (1937–1998) and Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma (born 1940). They composed music for about 635 Hindi movies from 1963 to 1998, working for almost all notable filmmakers including Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, B.R. Chopra, Shakti Samanta, Manmohan Desai, Yash Chopra, Subhash Ghai and Manoj Kumar.
Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar, was born on the day of Laxmi Pujan, on 3 November in 1937. Probably, because of the day of his birth, his parents named him as Laxmikant, after the goddess Laxmi. He spent his childhood amidst dire poverty in the slums of Vile Parle (East) in Mumbai. His father died when he was a child. Because of the poor financial condition of the family he could not complete his academic education either. Laxmikant's father's friend, a musician himself, advised Laxmikant and his elder brother to learn music. Accordingly, Laxmikant learned to play the mandolin and his elder brother learned to play the tabla. He spent two years in the company of the well-known mandolin player Hussain Ali. He began organising and performing in Indian Classical Instrumental Music concerts to earn some money. Later, in the 1940s, he also learned mandolin from Bal Mukund Indorker and violin from Husnalal (of the Husanlal Bhagatram fame). Laxmikant began his film career as a child actor in the films Bhakt Pundalik (1949 film) and Aankhen (1950 film). He also acted in some Gujarati films.

Azmi was married to Shaukhat Azmi. They have a daughter, Shabana Azmi (An Indian Actress of film, television and theatre) and a son, Baba Azmi (Indian Cinematographer).

Nine greats made this film one of the best movies that Hindi cinema has brought about. To name they were , the director : Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Novel by Narayan Sanyal, Dialogue by Rajinder Singh Bedi and actors such as Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmendra, Sharmeela Tagore, David and Robi Ghosh. I adjudge this film to be the best more so in the existing Indian scenario of corruption, dishonesty and falsehood.

Is that like me
the last frustration you have saved
Is that like me
the degeneration of the brave
Is that like me
to treat my brother as a salve
Is that like me
the final reason to go away
Is that like me
to choose your heros and then decide
to shoot them down
and hold exhibits on their pyre
Is that like me
am I the cloth that wipes your smile
Is that me
or is it the images on your trial
Do you know the place I go to when the beatings arrive
Do you know the strengh I call on when they scream "crucify"
Do you need another reason to belittle my love
The Stigma you cast is really not enough
Is that like me
to put illusion in my veins
and shoot it down
before the Icons you portray
Is that like me
Another victim of decay
This room´s so cold
You kissed me twice and then betrayed
my only wish
To hold you near me in the night
Oh is that like me
