Jaspal Rana

Jaspal Rana (born June 28, 1976) is an Indian shooter. He contested mainly in the 25 m Centre Fire Pistol category. He was a gold medallist at the 1994 Asian Games,1998 Commonwealth Games - Men's Center Fire Pistol, Men's Center Fire Pistol Pairs,2002 Commonwealth Games - Men's 25m Center Fire Pistol, 2006 Commonwealth Games - Men's 25m Center Fire Pistol Pairs, and 2006 Asian Games. At present, Rana coaches at the Jaspal Rana Institute of Education and Technology in Dehradun.

Career

Early days

Rana was born in a Rajput family in Uttarkashi, in Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand). He grew up in Mussoorie, Dehradun Nainbagh and later on in Delhi and studied at the K.V. Air Force Station Tughlkabad, and St. Stephen's and Sri Aurobindo colleges. His first coach was his father, Narayan Singh Rana, an ITBP official. Later on Tibor Ganazol coached him to perfection.

Rana made his national début at the age of 12, at the 31st National Shooting Championship at Ahmedabad and won a Silver Medal. He shot into Standard Pistol shooting fame when he won a Gold at the 46th World Shooting Championship (Junior Section) with a world record score at Milan, Italy, in 1994.

Mina Rana (Devanagari: मीना राणा) is a prolific Uttarakhandi singer. She can be heard on many Garhwali and Kumaoni music albums. She is considered to be one of the best female singer of Uttarakhand and even said to be the Lata Mangeshkar of Uttarakhand.

In November 2014, she mesmerized the Sardotsav in Pithoragarh.

Early life

Mina Rana was born on May 24, 1975 in Delhi. She did her schooling from batlar Memorial Girls Senior Secondary School, Rajpur Road, Delhi till 9th standard and then she moved to Mussoorie, Uttarakhand to stay with her elder sister . There she continued her study from mussoorie Girls Inter College, Mussoorie. She did rest of her schooling staying with them. She is married to Sanjay Kumola and after getting married she came and settled in Delhi. Her husband is a music director by profession and runs a music studio Surabhi Multi Track Sound Studio named after their daughter Surabhi.

Rana

Rana (Sanskrit: राणा) is a historical title of Rajput origin, denoting the rank of an absolute Monarch.

Today, it is being used as a hereditary name in South Asia. Rani is the title for the wife of a Rana or a female monarch. Rani also applies to the wife of a Raja. Compound titles include Rana Sahib, Ranaji, Rana Bahadur, and Maharana.

Royal title in India

Rana was formerly used as a title of martial sovereignty by Rajput kings in India.

Rana title in Pakistan

Members of different Rajput clans use Rana as a hereditary title in Pakistan and their majority is Muslim. However Hindu Rajputs with this title also exist in Sindh.Umerkot was a state with a Hindu Rajput ruler using the title Rana in Sindh (presen-day Pakistan). In the 16th century Rana Prasad, the then Rana of Umerkot, gave refuge to Mughal prince Humayun and his wife Hamida Banu Begum, who fled from military defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri. Their son Akbar was born in the fort of the Rana of Umerkot.

Narendra Singh Negi (Hindi: नरेन्द्र सिंह नेगी ji ) is one of the most prominent folk singers of the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Background

Born on 12 August 1949 in Pauri Village nearby Pauri town in Pauri Garhwal District (Uttarakhand) ~~ पौड़ी जिले का पौड़ी गाँव (उत्तराखंड), Negi Ji started his career from Pauri .

Music career

Negi Ji started his music career by releasing "Garhwali Geetmala". These Garhwali Geetmalas came in 10 different parts. As these Garhwali Geetmalas were from different companies he was finding it difficult to manage them. So he finally switched into releasing his cassettes by giving them separate titles. His first album came with the title called "Buraans". Buraans is a well-known flower found on hills.

He has released most number of super-hit albums. He has also given his voice in many Garhwali movies like "Chakrachal","Gharjawai","Meri Ganga Holi Ta Maima Aali" etc. This renowned singer from Garhwal has sung more than 1000 songs till now.

Album

Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 ¹⁄₃ rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats.
