A quiet afternoon turned horrific for a senior citizen on Monday as two unidentified youths, one of whom posed as a courier delivery boy, barged into her house and tied her and her maid up with the intention of burgling the house. However, as the two women screamed for help, the neighbours rushed to the house, forcing the duo to hightail it.
C.D. Irene (76) lives with her son, a techie, and daughter-in-law, a banker, at their JP Nagar Phase II house. On Monday afternoon, she was at home with only their maid, Prema, as her son and daughter-in-law were at work.
“Around 4 p.m., the maid answered the door to a person who claimed he was a courier delivery boy. He asked for a pen and as Prema went into the house to fetch it, the man and an accomplice barged inside and tied both women up. The women screamed for help and this alerted the neighbours. The duo panicked and fled. They were in the house for less than 10 minutes,” said a police source.
Both women were not injured and no valuables were stolen.
