The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. For the majority of their history, the band consisted of Sting (lead singer, bassist and principal songwriter), Andy Summers (guitarist) and Stewart Copeland (drummer). The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and are generally regarded as one of the first new wave groups to achieve mainstream success, playing a style of rock that was influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. They are also considered one of the leaders of the Second British Invasion of the U.S. They disbanded in 1986, but reunited in early 2007 for a one-off world tour that ended in August 2008.
Their 1978 debut album, Outlandos d'Amour, reached No. 6 in the UK, and their second album Reggatta de Blanc became the first of five consecutive UK No. 1 albums.Synchronicity from 1983 was No. 1 in both the UK and U.S., selling over 8 million copies in the U.S. alone. The Police have sold over 75 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. They were the world's highest-earning musicians in 2008, thanks to their reunion tour.
Outlandos d'Amour is the debut studio album by English rock band The Police, released in November 1978 by A&M Records.
Elevated by the success of its lead single, "Roxanne", Outlandos d'Amour peaked at No. 6 on the UK Album Charts and at No. 138 on the Billboard 200. It has since been certified platinum by the RIAA for sales of over one million units in the United States. The album spawned two additional hit singles: "Can't Stand Losing You" and "So Lonely". Although it received mixed reviews upon its release, Outlandos d'Amour has since been regarded as one of the strongest debut albums by any band or artist. It was ranked No. 38 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "100 Best Debut Albums of All Time". In 2012, the same magazine ranked it No. 428 on their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
With a budget of £1,500 borrowed from Stewart Copeland's brother Miles, the album was recorded at Surrey Sound in an intermittent fashion over six months, with the band jumping in whenever the studio had free time or another band's sessions were cancelled. Miles Copeland had promised to pay Surrey Sound £2,000 upon completion of the recording, but did not give them the full amount until much later.
Losing You may refer to:
"Can't Stand Losing You" is a song by English rock band The Police, released from their debut album Outlandos d'Amour, both in 1978. The song also was released as the follow-up single to "Roxanne," reaching no. 2 on a re-release in 1979. It was written by the band's lead singer and bassist Sting as a song about suicide.
The song also gained controversy for its single cover art, featuring Stewart Copeland hanging himself.
"Can't Stand Losing You" features lyrics which, according to Sting, is "about a teenage suicide, which is always a bit of a joke." Sting also claimed that the lyrics took him only five minutes to write.
The original single was banned by the BBC because of the controversial cover (an alternative cover was released in some places). As Sting described: "The reason they [the BBC] had a problem with "Can't Stand Losing You" was because the photo on the cover of the single had Stewart standing on a block of ice with a noose around his neck, waiting for the ice to melt." Despite this, or perhaps because of the extra attention from the controversy, it became the group's first single to break the charts, and has held a spot in their live sets ever since it was written.

The Police are a band you either love, or you've been listening to too much NWA, but anyway this week I took a look at the debut from one of my all time favourite bands, The Police! but is this album a perfect meld of punk and reggae or is it an incoherent mish mash of different genres of music? Let's find out! Link to my video for 'next to you': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlQrQ5ZuGQE BTW this video was supposed to be uploaded a month ago but thanks to YouTubes retarded copright claim system, I haven't been able to upload it until now.

The Police - Stewart Armstrong Copeland & son of Miles Axe Copeland Jr. , Andrew James "Andy" Summers & Sting a.k.a. Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner are live in the ABC studios talking to Molly Meldrum about many things which to fans like myself may of never of known until now because we were to young! I find it interesting when Stewart starts to talk about Klark Kent and his background and seeing the other two looking around and Sting with his hands around his mouth almost trying to almost shoosh Stewart to be quiet especially when one three letter organization is mentioned and Stewart should know these three letter organizations as well as anybody in the public could ever possibly of known,(Google his father & see for yourself) I don't know but I find this body language very interesting an...
Interviews with Stewart, Andy and Sting at Melbourne Showground on the day of the final concert of their Synchronicity Tour on March 4, 1984. This was broadcast a week later on ABC's "Countdown" program. Chopped rather heavy-handedly during broadcast recording (I presumably didn't want the other program stuff) I have further edited it to tidy it up a little.
A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the Countdown 'End of the Decade' special, a retrospective of the music of the 1970s, which originally aired on December 16, 1979, on the ABC. This clip features an interview of British band The Police, featuring band members Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum. The interview begins, after a short clip of The Police's 'Message In A Bottle', with Molly asking the band about their relatively fast success, having kept Fleetwood Mac from the Number 1 position in the UK for a long time. A discussion is then had about how The Police achieved the success they have. Also discussed is h...

Stewart Copeland of The Police Reminisces About the '82 US Festival. "We were sold on the idea of coming to this festival in that it would be the opposite of Woodstock. It's absolutely comfortable, the grass is clean, the sound system is pristine. It was a really great experience, and the 'US' Festival was really the precursor to that. The idea that a festival isn't misery. The Festival still resonates. It was not Woodstock. It should've been, considering the talent." - Stewart Copeland, 2012 ABOUT THE FILM Regarded as the Woodstock of the 80's, the 'US' Festival captured the mindset of a culture on the cusp of a technology transformation. Words and music by Sting
I can't stand it for another day
When you live so many miles away.
Nothing here is gonna make me stay,
(You) took me over, let me find a way.
I sold my house
I sold my motor, too.
All I want is to be Next To You.
I'd rob a bank
Maybe steal a plane.
You took me over,
Think I'm goin' insane.
What can I do,
All I want is to be next to you.
What can I do,
All I want is to be next to you.
I've had a thousand girls or maybe more,
But I've never felt like this before.
But I just don't know what's come over me,
You took me over, take a look at me.
What can I do,
All I want is to be next to you.
What can I do,
All I want is to be next to you.
All I want is to be next to you,
All I want is to be next to you,
All I want is to be next to you.
So many times I used to give a sign
Got this feeling, gonna lose my mind.
When all it is is just a love affair.
You took me over baby, take me there.
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do
All I want is to be next to you.
All I want is to be next to you...
