2nda visita a mis sitio Maya explorado #49, El Petén, Guatemala, Marzo, 22-24, 2010.
- Esta es la caminata reina del mundo Maya, uno se puede hacer llamar aventurero o explorador Maya hasta que haya hecho el mágico recorrido al Mirador.
- Tuve que esperar 3 largos años para poder regresar a este sitio del Preclásico, como recordaran algunos de ustedes que vieron mi aventura en 2 partes de mi caminata en el 2007, las grandes heridas causadas por la humedad, me impidieron subir El Tigre y La Danta, de hecho fue el más grande dolor que jamás he sufrido en mi vida y porto las cicatrices en mis talones hasta el día de hoy!
-Quedaré eternamente agradecido con mis compañeros exploradores, Brenda Blakely de México, Federico Angulo de España y Daniel Pozuelos de Guatemala, como ya lo dije antes, fueron los compañeros perfectos e hicieron más llevadera esa aventura!
- El Mirador se encuentra al Norte del Petén, bajo una densa selva, 7 kms al sur de la frontera con Campeche, México, a 330 kms al norte de la ciudad de Guatemala y 105 kms al Noroeste de Tikal.
- Junto con Nakbé forman parte de unas de las primeras ciudades donde se establecieron los Mayas y de hecho son considerados por muchos especialistas como la cuna de la cultura Maya.
- Su auge fue en el Preclásico Tardío entre el 150 aC y el 150 dC.
- El Mirador es famoso por tener dos de las más inmensas estructuras Mayas, El Tigre y La colosal Danta, cuya base equivale a la superficie de 17 campos de futbol y en una de sus terrazas incluso tiene una aguada!
- Esta aventura es extremadamente cansada, pero una extraña energía parece cargar día a día a cada uno de los exploradores que llegan al Mirador.

Expedición al Mirador es una documental que muestra la travesía que se realiza para llegar al Parque Nacional Mirador -Río Azul y el Biotopo Protegido Naachtún- Dos Lagunas a través de la inmensidad de la Reserva de Biosfera Maya -RBM- por medio de una caminata intensa de 6 días desde la comunidad de Carmelita y 6 días desde la comunidad de Uaxactún.
Un grupo de técnicos del CONAP decidimos un día realizar esta travesía y registrarla para mostrar a todo el mundo lo impresionante que son nuestras áreas protegidas y todas las riquezas naturales y culturales que albergan.
Hacer este viaje por cualquiera de las 2 vías es una experiencia única, ya que por al menos 6 días los viajantes se alejan totalmente de la vida cotidiana, del trabajo, del internet e incluso del celular. Los accesos son sumamente limitados donde reina una selva totalmente exuberante y la humedad es intensa, sin embargo tan rica en diversidad biológica y arqueología que hace del viaje la combinación perfecta para tomar la decisión de aventurarse dentro de la RBM.
Mirador -Río Azul y Naachtún - Dos Lagunas son parte de la Zona Núcleo de la RBM, su inaccesibilidad ha permitido su conservación, aquí se puede avistar una gran cantidad de flora y fauna silvestre, lo cual es un gran atractivo en el momento de realizar la caminata. Además la riqueza arqueológica es extraordinaria, a cada paso se observan restos de la civilización maya, por lo que es importante informarse sobre la importancia de estos sitios antes del viaje, para que ya estando allí, se logre interpretar el paisaje arqueológico y natural que se va a observar.
Ya sea que se realice la travesía a pie desde la comunidad de Carmelita, o con vehículo todo terreno (y resorteado) desde Uaxactún, la experiencia es difícil, peligrosa y desgastante, es importante que si se realiza el viaje sea a través de los grupos organizados de Turismo Comunitario que trabajan y ofrecen sus servicios desde Carmelita y Uaxactún.
En Carmelita y en Uaxactún existen guías de turismo capacitados para organizar estos viajes, con mucha experiencia en manejo de alimentos, primeros auxilios y atención al turista; de todas formas se recomienda también tomar medidas preventivas como el uso de tennis o botas cómodas, ropa impermeable, llevar una buena linterna y baterías suficientes, entre otros.
Los guías que apoyan estos viajes conocen la normativa que establece el CONAP en su Plan de Uso Público y las recomendaciones que establece la Sección de Patrimonio Cultural y Ecoturismo para llevar a cabo este viaje, evitando al máximo accidentes e imprevistos.
La Secretaría Ejecutiva del Consejo Nacional de Áreas Protegidas -CONAP-, a través del Departamento de Unidades de Conservación, el Departamento de Educación y Fomento, y la Dirección del Parque Nacional Mirador - Río Azul presentan el documental EXPEDICIÓN AL MIRADOR, el cual ha sido elaborado con la participación del Instituto de Antropología e Historia -IDAEH-, el Centro de Estudios Conservacionistas -CECON- y el Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo -INGUAT-; gracias a la colaboración financiera de Asociación Balam y Counterpart International, que a través de la Alianza para el Turismo Comunitario colaboran enormemente al desarrollo del turismo sostenible en Guatemala.

El Mirador

El Mirador is a large pre-Columbian Mayan settlement, located in the north of the modern department of El Petén, Guatemala.
Discovery
El Mirador was first discovered in 1926, and was photographed from the air in 1930, but the remote site deep in the jungle had little more attention paid to it until Ian Graham spent some time there making the first map of the area in 1962. A detailed investigation was begun in 1978 with an archaeological project under the direction of Bruce Dahlin (The Catholic University of America) and Ray Matheny (Brigham Young University). Dahlin's work focused primarily on the bajo swamps and mapping, while Matheny's team focused primarily on excavations in the site center and architecture. This project ended in 1983. To the surprise of the archaeologists, it was found that a large amount of construction was not contemporary with the large Maya classic cities in the area, like Tikal and Uaxactun, but rather from centuries earlier in the Pre-Classic era (see: Mesoamerican chronology).

Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman (born June 1, 1937) is an American actor and narrator. Freeman won an Academy Award in 2005 for Best Supporting Actor with Million Dollar Baby (2004), and he has received Oscar nominations for his performances in Street Smart (1987), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and Invictus (2009). Early life and education
Morgan Freeman was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 1, 1937. He is the son of Mayme Edna (née Revere; 1912–2000), a teacher, and Morgan Porterfield Freeman, a barber who died on April 27, 1961, from cirrhosis. He has three older siblings. According to a DNA analysis, some of his ancestors were from Niger. Freeman was sent as an infant to his paternal grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi. He moved frequently during his childhood, living in Greenwood, Mississippi; Gary, Indiana; and finally Chicago, Illinois.

- Tuve que esperar 3 largos años para poder regresar a este sitio del Preclásico, como recordaran algunos de ustedes que vieron mi aventura en 2 partes de mi caminata en el 2007, las grandes heridas causadas por la humedad, me impidieron subir El Tigre y La Danta, de hecho fue el más grande dolor que jamás he sufrido en mi vida y porto las cicatrices en mis talones hasta el día de hoy!
-Quedaré eternamente agradecido con mis compañeros exploradores, Brenda Blakely de México, Federico Angulo de España y Daniel Pozuelos de Guatemala, como ya lo dije antes, fueron los compañeros perfectos e hicieron más llevadera esa aventura!
- El Mirador se encuentra al Norte del Petén, bajo una densa selva, 7 kms al sur de la frontera con Campeche, México, a 330 kms al norte de la ciudad de Guatemala y 105 kms al Noroeste de Tikal.
- Junto con Nakbé forman parte de unas de las primeras ciudades donde se establecieron los Mayas y de hecho son considerados por muchos especialistas como la cuna de la cultura Maya.
- Su auge fue en el Preclásico Tardío entre el 150 aC y el 150 dC.
- El Mirador es famoso por tener dos de las más inmensas estructuras Mayas, El Tigre y La colosal Danta, cuya base equivale a la superficie de 17 campos de futbol y en una de sus terrazas incluso tiene una aguada!
- Esta aventura es extremadamente cansada, pero una extraña energía parece cargar día a día a cada uno de los exploradores que llegan al Mirador.

Expedición al Mirador es una documental que muestra la travesía que se realiza para llegar al Parque Nacional Mirador -Río Azul y el Biotopo Protegido Naachtún- Dos Lagunas a través de la inmensidad de la Reserva de Biosfera Maya -RBM- por medio de una caminata intensa de 6 días desde la comunidad de Carmelita y 6 días desde la comunidad de Uaxactún.
Un grupo de técnicos del CONAP decidimos un día realizar esta travesía y registrarla para mostrar a todo el mundo lo impresionante que son nuestras áreas protegidas y todas las riquezas naturales y culturales que albergan.
Hacer este viaje por cualquiera de las 2 vías es una experiencia única, ya que por al menos 6 días los viajantes se alejan totalmente de la vida cotidiana, del trabajo, del internet e incluso del celular. Los accesos son sumamente limitados donde reina una selva totalmente exuberante y la humedad es intensa, sin embargo tan rica en diversidad biológica y arqueología que hace del viaje la combinación perfecta para tomar la decisión de aventurarse dentro de la RBM.
Mirador -Río Azul y Naachtún - Dos Lagunas son parte de la Zona Núcleo de la RBM, su inaccesibilidad ha permitido su conservación, aquí se puede avistar una gran cantidad de flora y fauna silvestre, lo cual es un gran atractivo en el momento de realizar la caminata. Además la riqueza arqueológica es extraordinaria, a cada paso se observan restos de la civilización maya, por lo que es importante informarse sobre la importancia de estos sitios antes del viaje, para que ya estando allí, se logre interpretar el paisaje arqueológico y natural que se va a observar.
Ya sea que se realice la travesía a pie desde la comunidad de Carmelita, o con vehículo todo terreno (y resorteado) desde Uaxactún, la experiencia es difícil, peligrosa y desgastante, es importante que si se realiza el viaje sea a través de los grupos organizados de Turismo Comunitario que trabajan y ofrecen sus servicios desde Carmelita y Uaxactún.
En Carmelita y en Uaxactún existen guías de turismo capacitados para organizar estos viajes, con mucha experiencia en manejo de alimentos, primeros auxilios y atención al turista; de todas formas se recomienda también tomar medidas preventivas como el uso de tennis o botas cómodas, ropa impermeable, llevar una buena linterna y baterías suficientes, entre otros.
Los guías que apoyan estos viajes conocen la normativa que establece el CONAP en su Plan de Uso Público y las recomendaciones que establece la Sección de Patrimonio Cultural y Ecoturismo para llevar a cabo este viaje, evitando al máximo accidentes e imprevistos.
La Secretaría Ejecutiva del Consejo Nacional de Áreas Protegidas -CONAP-, a través del Departamento de Unidades de Conservación, el Departamento de Educación y Fomento, y la Dirección del Parque Nacional Mirador - Río Azul presentan el documental EXPEDICIÓN AL MIRADOR, el cual ha sido elaborado con la participación del Instituto de Antropología e Historia -IDAEH-, el Centro de Estudios Conservacionistas -CECON- y el Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo -INGUAT-; gracias a la colaboración financiera de Asociación Balam y Counterpart International, que a través de la Alianza para el Turismo Comunitario colaboran enormemente al desarrollo del turismo sostenible en Guatemala.

Los accesos son sumamente limitados donde reina una selva totalmente exuberante y la humedad es intensa, sin embargo tan rica en diversidad biológica y arqueología que hace del viaje la combinación perfecta para tomar la decisión de aventurarse dentro de la RBM.
Mirador -Río Azul y Naachtún - Dos Lagunas son parte de la Zona Núcleo de la RBM, su inaccesibilidad ha permitido su conservación, aquí se puede avistar una gran cantidad de flora y fauna silvestre, lo cual es un gran atractivo en el momento de realizar la caminata. Además la riqueza arqueológica es extraordinaria, a cada paso se observan restos de la civilización maya, por lo que es importante informarse sobre la importancia de estos sitios antes del viaje, para que ya estando allí, se logre interpretar el paisaje arqueológico y natural que se va a observar.
Ya sea que se realice la travesía a pie desde la comunidad de Carmelita, o con vehículo todo terreno (y resorteado) desde Uaxactún, la experiencia es difícil, peligrosa y desgastante, es importante que si se realiza el viaje sea a través de los grupos organizados de Turismo Comunitario que trabajan y ofrecen sus servicios desde Carmelita y Uaxactún.
En Carmelita y en Uaxactún existen guías de turismo capacitados para organizar estos viajes, con mucha experiencia en manejo de alimentos, primeros auxilios y atención al turista; de todas formas se recomienda también tomar medidas preventivas como el uso de tennis o botas cómodas, ropa impermeable, llevar una buena linterna y baterías suficientes, entre otros.
Los guías que apoyan estos viajes conocen la normativa que establece el CONAP en su Plan de Uso Público y las recomendaciones que establece la Sección de Patrimonio Cultural y Ecoturismo para llevar a cabo este viaje, evitando al máximo accidentes e imprevistos.
La Secretaría Ejecutiva del Consejo Nacional de Áreas Protegidas -CONAP-, a través del Departamento de Unidades de Conservación, el Departamento de Educación y Fomento, y la Dirección del Parque Nacional Mirador - Río Azul presentan el documental EXPEDICIÓN AL MIRADOR, el cual ha sido elaborado con la participación del Instituto de Antropología e Historia -IDAEH-, el Centro de Estudios Conservacionistas -CECON- y el Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo -INGUAT-; gracias a la colaboración financiera de Asociación Balam y Counterpart International, que a través de la Alianza para el Turismo Comunitario colaboran enormemente al desarrollo del turismo sostenible en Guatemala.

Kayakers regularly arrive here and enjoy close sightings of the sea lion colony nearby. Several resorts are in this area if you choose to stay nearby and many watersport guides and tours are available. This is a good spot for whale viewing in January through March.
