The rails, sleepers and ballast gravel of Brazilian mining giant Vale's S11D branch line are in place along the full 101km of the planned railway line.
The S11D branch line will interconnect the Carajás railway with the company's flagship US$14.4bn S11D Carajás iron ore project in Canaã dos Carajás.
"We are very close to complete the line's last kilometers within schedule and with a large focus on safety," Vale's S11D branch line head Plínio Tocchetto said in a release on Monday.
Some 85km were built on the main line and 16 km on the reverse loop. The initiative is part of Vale's plans to expand mining activity at Carajás.
The branch line is an integral part of the S11D project, which will increase Vale's northern system logistics capacity to 230Mt/y.
The S11D project entered the test phase at the end of January, when its 9.5km conveyor was switched on.
