Mulholland Hwy has been a top destination for riders in Southern California for many years. The Snake section is a little over two miles long. The turns are tight, limiting speed and injuries in the event of a crash. And there are many crashes but also great riding.
The road is public but considered a recreational use area. All rules of the road apply but motorcycle and auto enthusiasts are part of the tradition of the area.
At the top of the Snake there is a park maintained overlook. The sign says:
"You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have crashed on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "
Important Note Regarding Spectators: Recently the road has been posted "No Stopping." There are five 1 hour spaces at the overlook that fill up quickly.

I was out for a ride with my brother when a pack of crazy aggressive Harley riders rolled up on us. I didn't want any trouble but they had other plans. Next thing I know I'm in a race with them. I was just trying to get away but to these hooligans it was a challeng. Im still not sure how it happened but in the madness I cut off one of the outlaw bikers and took him out. I panicked, wasn't sure what to do. Things were a blur. Before I know it I'm on the side of the road surrounded by the Harley Gang. They're pissed, some want blood, some want our lives, but the leader spoke up and said "no boys, I got a plan for these too". They told us to follow them and not to try anything fishy. We didn't know what to do other than to follow. At one point we saw a cop and thought to yell out for help. But then we saw the cop roll down the window and one of the bikers went up and handed him an envelope. I just caught a glimpse of what was inside, money. They had the cops on their payroll. What could we do? We got to their hang out and were took inside. They explained to us they had a rival gang they needed to get some payback on. They wanted to blow up their club house and they wanted us to do it! I shouted out "I'm not going to do that, I'M NOT GOING TO KILL ANYONE! You cant make me. You'll have to kill me." They looked at each other and started to laugh. In a calm voice he said "I'm not going to kill you two, I'll kill your family's.... we made copies of your ID's and with the help of Mr Google I know all about you two now. You almost killed one of our boys today so you're going to help us, understand? Besides I'm not going to have you blow it up when they're in it. My boys are going to make a bit of a distraction and get everyone out, then you two will go in and... BOOM hahaha". He was insane, and 100% serious. What choice did we have? And 12 hours later we did just as he said. They gave us a backpack that had some kind of remote controlled explosive in it. That seems so long ago now. Crazy to think that this all started as a road accident that led us to being strong armed into blowing up a bar. After that they had us do other jobs from time to time. They stopped threatening us and started paying us. I guess we impressed them. I can't remember when we went from being terrified of them to thinking of them as brothers. Crazy right? The biker gang that we were running from one day we were riding with the next. Eventually they asked us to join and we were more then happy to. The next ten years where a blur. Cocaine, hookers, shoot outs, and riding flat out everywhere. These guys lived like every day was their last. And I think that's what so addicting about being around them. They live life turned up to 11 all the time. But you can't keep that pace forever. How could you? The spiral circle to rock bottom is a funny thing. You don't realize you're in it until you hit rock bottom. You keep thinking you can get back on top. But that's another story...

At the top of the Snake there is a park maintained overlook. The sign says:
"You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have crashed on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "
Important Note Regarding Spectators: Recently the road has been posted "No Stopping." There are five 1 hour spaces at the overlook that fill up quickly.

"You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have crashed on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "
Important Note Regarding Spectators: Recently the road has been posted "No Stopping." There are five 1 hour spaces at the overlook that fill up quickly.

I was out for a ride with my brother when a pack of crazy aggressive Harley riders rolled up on us. I didn't want any trouble but they had other plans. Next thing I know I'm in a race with them. I was just trying to get away but to these hooligans it was a challeng. Im still not sure how it happened but in the madness I cut off one of the outlaw bikers and took him out. I panicked, wasn't sure what to do. Things were a blur. Before I know it I'm on the side of the road surrounded by the Harley Gang. They're pissed, some want blood, some want our lives, but the leader spoke up and said "no boys, I got a plan for these too". They told us to follow them and not to try anything fishy. We didn't know what to do other than to follow. At one point we saw a cop and thought to yell out for help. But then we saw the cop roll down the window and one of the bikers went up and handed him an envelope. I just caught a glimpse of what was inside, money. They had the cops on their payroll. What could we do? We got to their hang out and were took inside. They explained to us they had a rival gang they needed to get some payback on. They wanted to blow up their club house and they wanted us to do it! I shouted out "I'm not going to do that, I'M NOT GOING TO KILL ANYONE! You cant make me. You'll have to kill me." They looked at each other and started to laugh. In a calm voice he said "I'm not going to kill you two, I'll kill your family's.... we made copies of your ID's and with the help of Mr Google I know all about you two now. You almost killed one of our boys today so you're going to help us, understand? Besides I'm not going to have you blow it up when they're in it. My boys are going to make a bit of a distraction and get everyone out, then you two will go in and... BOOM hahaha". He was insane, and 100% serious. What choice did we have? And 12 hours later we did just as he said. They gave us a backpack that had some kind of remote controlled explosive in it. That seems so long ago now. Crazy to think that this all started as a road accident that led us to being strong armed into blowing up a bar. After that they had us do other jobs from time to time. They stopped threatening us and started paying us. I guess we impressed them. I can't remember when we went from being terrified of them to thinking of them as brothers. Crazy right? The biker gang that we were running from one day we were riding with the next. Eventually they asked us to join and we were more then happy to. The next ten years where a blur. Cocaine, hookers, shoot outs, and riding flat out everywhere. These guys lived like every day was their last. And I think that's what so addicting about being around them. They live life turned up to 11 all the time. But you can't keep that pace forever. How could you? The spiral circle to rock bottom is a funny thing. You don't realize you're in it until you hit rock bottom. You keep thinking you can get back on top. But that's another story...
