Liu Chia-liang is arguably the best martial arts film director of traditional style kung-fu action and was a pioneer in focusing on authentic martial arts techniques and training procedures in his films. This is the why stars in his movies looked more like kung-fu experts rather than actors simply going through the motions. So although David Chiang had starred in over 40 films as a martial arts hero, in Shaolin Mantis, where he plays a man who learns martial arts from a praying mantis then seeks revenge for his wife's death, the movie contains some of Chiang's best fight scenes ever. By casting his brothers Liu Chia-yung and Gordon Liu Chia-hui into the mix, Liu further ensures that the pugilistic mayhem will be even more outstanding.

Chi Tao-pao (Alexander Fu-sheng) and Chao Chu-chi (Chang Chan-peng) seize some letters from an antique-merchant Lu Ku-tung (Liu Chia-yung) thinking they contain a treasure secret. But they are only able to decipher the name of Fa Hua Temple. They hear that a monk from the temple, Wu Hsiang (Gordon Liu Chia-hui), is staying in the town just then, so Chi lures him from his room while Chao secretly searches it. His efforts are foiled, however, and at that moment a certain Mo Chung (Wang Lung-wei) appears, claiming to have come to rescue Wu. Chi and Chao tail Wu and observe him speaking to Hsin Lung clan chief Tsao Hung (Tang Wei-cheng). A quarrel ensures, and Wu knocks Tsao down. Mo suddenly emerges from hiding with his mute maid, (Yang Tsing-tsing), and kills Tsao after telling him that he has similarly killed many others coming for the treasure. The two friends hiding inside lure Mo forward to attack them, whereupon Chi uses firecrackers to disable Mo and flees. Mo and his friend Hsu Ning set traps in his mansion and invite Wu to come there, but Chi and Chao arrive first. Wu arrives later intending to inform Mo that there is no treasure. Chao accidentally touches a button, causing Hsu to get killed. Mo and his mute maid rush out along with several other swordsmen. Wu suffers heavy injury, but is rescued by Chi and Chao. Mo takes his men to storm the temple and force the abbot to reveal the treasure location. Wu, Chao and Chi arrive. Despite Wu’s injury, the trio outmaneuver Mo. In the melee, the surface of a Buddha cracks, revealing solid gold underneath.

劉 / 刘 (Lao, Lau, Low, Lauv, Liew, Liu, Loo, Lowe, Liou or Yu) is a common Chinese family name. The Liu (/ˈljuː/) as transcribed in English can represent several different surnames written in different Chinese characters:
In Cantonese transliteration, 刘/劉 (Liú) is Lau, Lao is also transliteration of 刘/劉 in Min Nan and Taiwanese Minnan Chinese language, whilst Liu is a different surname, 廖, pinyin: Liào, (Liêu in Vietnamese).
In Teochew, 刘/劉 is usually romanized as Lau, Low or Lao; 柳 is written as Lew; and 廖 is romanized as Leow or Liau.
In Hakka, 刘/劉 is most commonly transliterated as Liew while 廖 is written as Liau or Liaw. The other variants of the romanised surname Liu, i.e. 柳, 留 and 六, are uncommon among speakers of Hakka.

Sammo Hung
Sammo Hung (born 7 January 1952), also known as Hung Kam-bo (洪金寶), is a Hong Kong actor, martial artist, film producer and director, known for his work in many martial arts films and Hong Kong action cinema. He has been a fight choreographer for, amongst others, Jackie Chan, King Hu, and John Woo.
Hung is one of the pivotal figures who spearheaded the Hong Kong New Wave movement of the 1980s, helped reinvent the martial arts genre and started the vampire-like jiangshi genre. He is widely credited with assisting many of his compatriots, giving them their starts in the Hong Kong film industry, by casting them in the films he produced, or giving them roles in the production crew.
It is common for Asians to address their elders or influential people with familial nouns as a sign of familiarity and respect. Jackie Chan, for example, is often addressed as "Dai Goh" (Chinese: 大哥; pinyin: dà gē), meaning Big Brother. Hung was also known as "Dai Goh", until the filming of Project A, which featured both actors. As Hung was the eldest of the kung fu "brothers", and the first to make a mark on the industry, he was given the nickname "Dai Goh Dai" (Chinese: 大哥大; pinyin: dà gē dà; Jyutping: daai6 go1 daai6), meaning, Big, Big Brother, or Biggest Big Brother.

Shaw Brothers Studio
Shaw Brothers (HK) Ltd. (Chinese: 邵氏兄弟（香港）有限公司) was the largest film production company of Hong Kong.
In 1925, the three Shaw brothers—Runje, Runme, and Runde—founded Tianyi Film Company (also called Unique) in Shanghai, then established a film distribution base in Singapore where Runme and the youngest brother Run Run Shaw managed the precursor to the parent company Shaw Organization. Shaw Brothers took over the film production business of its Hong Kong-based sister company, Shaw & Sons Ltd., in 1958.
Over the years Shaw Brothers produced some 1,000 films, before film production was suspended in 1987 to concentrate on the television industry, through its subsidiary TVB. Film production resumed in 2009.
In 2011 Shaw Brothers was reorganized into the Clear Water Bay Land Company Limited, its film production business being taken over by other companies within the Shaw conglomerate.
History
Prior to their involvement in the film-making business, the Shaw brothers were interested in opera and owned a theatre in Shanghai, and their father also owned a cinema. One of the plays in their theatre, The Man from Shensi was very popular. The Shaw brothers then bought their first camera and Runje Shaw made this play into a silent film which turned out to be a success. Runje Shaw and his brothers Runde and Runme formed a film production company in 1924 in Shanghai called the Tianyi Film Company (also known as Unique). The company's earliest films, New Leaf (立地成佛) and Heroine Li Feifei (女侠李飛飛), were shown in Shanghai in 1925.

Choy Li Fut
Choy Li Fut (Cantonese) or Cai Li Fo (Mandarin) (Chinese: 蔡李佛; pinyin: Cài Lǐ Fó; Cantonese Yale: Choi3 Lei5 Fat6; aka Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu) is a Chinese martial art founded in 1836 by Chan Heung (陳享). Choy Li Fut was named to honor the Buddhist monk Choy Fook (蔡褔, Cai Fu) who taught him Choy Gar, and Li Yau-San (李友山) who taught him Li Gar, plus his uncle Chan Yuen-Wu (陳遠護), who taught him Fut Gar, and developed to honor the Buddha and the Shaolin roots of the system.
The system combines the martial arts techniques from various Northern and Southern Chinese kung-fu systems; the powerful arm and hand techniques from the Shaolin animal forms from the South, combined with the extended, circular movements, twisting body, and agile footwork that characterizes Northern China's martial arts. It is considered an external style, combining soft and hard techniques, as well as incorporating a wide range of weapons as part of its curriculum. Choy Li Fut is an effective self-defense system, particularly noted for defense against multiple attackers. They hear that a monk from the temple, Wu Hsiang (Gordon Liu Chia-hui), is staying in the town just then, so Chi lures him from his room while Chao secretly searches it. His efforts are foiled, however, and at that moment a certain Mo Chung (Wang Lung-wei) appears, claiming to have come to rescue Wu. Chi and Chao tail Wu and observe him speaking to Hsin Lung clan chief Tsao Hung (Tang Wei-cheng). A quarrel ensures, and Wu knocks Tsao down. Mo suddenly emerges from hiding with his mute maid, (Yang Tsing-tsing), and kills Tsao after telling him that he has similarly killed many others coming for the treasure. The two friends hiding inside lure Mo forward to attack them, whereupon Chi uses firecrackers to disable Mo and flees. Mo and his friend Hsu Ning set traps in his mansion and invite Wu to come there, but Chi and Chao arrive first. Wu arrives later intending to inform Mo that there is no treasure. Chao accidentally touches a button, causing Hsu to get killed. Mo and his mute maid rush out along with several other swordsmen. Wu suffers heavy injury, but is rescued by Chi and Chao. Mo takes his men to storm the temple and force the abbot to reveal the treasure location. Wu, Chao and Chi arrive. Despite Wu’s injury, the trio outmaneuver Mo. Chi Tao-pao (Alexander Fu-sheng) and Chao Chu-chi (Chang Chan-peng) seize some letters from an antique-merchant Lu Ku-tung (Liu Chia-yung) thinking they contain a treasure secret. But they are only able to decipher the name of Fa Hua Temple. They hear that a monk from the temple, Wu Hsiang (Gordon Liu Chia-hui), is staying in the town just then, so Chi lures him from his room while Chao secretly searches it. His efforts are foiled, however, and at that moment a certain Mo Chung (Wang Lung-wei) appears, claiming to have come to rescue Wu. Chi and Chao tail Wu and observe him speaking to Hsin Lung clan chief Tsao Hung (Tang Wei-cheng). A quarrel ensures, and Wu knocks Tsao down. Mo suddenly emerges from hiding with his mute maid, (Yang Tsing-tsing), and kills Tsao after telling him that he has similarly killed many others coming for the treasure. The two friends hiding inside lure Mo forward to attack them, whereupon Chi uses firecrackers to disable Mo and flees. Mo and his friend Hsu Ning set traps in his mansion and invite Wu to come there, but Chi and Chao arrive first. Wu arrives later intending to inform Mo that there is no treasure. Chao accidentally touches a button, causing Hsu to get killed. Mo and his mute maid rush out along with several other swordsmen. Wu suffers heavy injury, but is rescued by Chi and Chao. Mo takes his men to storm the temple and force the abbot to reveal the treasure location. Wu, Chao and Chi arrive. Despite Wu’s injury, the trio outmaneuver Mo. In the melee, the surface of a Buddha cracks, revealing solid gold underneath.

Storyline
Returning home with his father after a shopping expedition, Wong Fei-Hong is unwittingly caught up in the battle between foreigners who wish to export ancient Chinese artifacts and loyalists who don't want the pieces to leave the country. Fei-Hong has learned a style of fighting called "Drunken Boxing", which makes him a dangerous person to cross. Unfortunately, his father is opposed to his engaging in any kind of fighting, let alone drunken boxing. Consequently, Fei-Hong not only has to fight against the foreigners, but he must overcome his father's antagonism as well.

Crazy Couple is a 1979 Hong Kong martial arts comedy film directed by Ricky Lau and starring Dean Shek and Lau Ka-yung. Plot: Street performer Cho brings his pet around to perform hoping to raise money to study martial arts. Retired martial arts master Chiu Chat-yeh has a mentally disabled daughter who is unattended and has Cho take care of her. Often appearing in the films he directs and/or choreographs while frequently collaborating with martial artist and actor Gordon Liu, his filmography includes classics such as "The One-Armed Swordsman, "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin", "Shaolin Mantis", "Heroes of the East", "Martial Club", "Legendary Weapons of China", "Invincible Pole Fighter", and "Drunken Master 2". Although tragically passing away at the age of 78 from leukemia, his legacy lives on. Here's a compilation of my favorite Lau Kar-Leung fight scenes.

Plot: Street performer Cho brings his pet around to perform hoping to raise money to study martial arts. Retired martial arts master Chiu Chat-yeh has a mentally disabled daughter who is unattended and has Cho take care of her. Cho finds a girl from out of town named Piu-hung to take his spot as Chiu's daughter's caretaker and goes to study martial arts with the village's martial arts teacher, Kwan Yee-sai. Cho also befriends Kwan's son, Yan. One day, a group of bandits come and terrorize the village and Chiu and Kwan team up to resist them. Chiu has stolen jewelry in his house which is unexpectedly stolen by Piu-hung. Chiu and Kwan are killed later as well. Cho and Yan flee to many places and seek a teacher to mentor them in martial arts. With continuous twists and turns along the way, they finally find the real culprit behind the scenes.
