In this episode I have disassembled the head motor assembly and fitted the two stepper motors to a block of wood so that I can play about with them. All I have done is extended the wires to a breadboard so that I can manually step the motors using a couple of AA batteries.

I had to replace the DVD drive in my old PC today and that gave me the idea for another series of projects. I will see how many projects I can generate from the components in the old DVD drive. This is the first project and I make one of my old favourites, a crawler bot or inchworm which uses the tray mechanism to reach forward and pull itself along

Hello YouTube today im going to show you on how to fix your CD/DVD drive in Windows 7.
I experieced this problem right after I took my custom computer apart and out it back together. I checked it everything was properly connected and it was. But the drive icon never showed up on the computer.
Steps:
1. Click start and in the searchbar, search for "regedit"
2. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
3. Go to "SYSTEM"
4. Go to "CurrentControlSet"
5. Go to "Control"
6. Go to "Class"
7. Go to "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}"
8. And you want to make sure that you delete only your "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters"
9. Restart your computer and it should detec the CD/DVD drive

In this episode I have disassembled the head motor assembly and fitted the two stepper motors to a block of wood so that I can play about with them. All I have done is extended the wires to a breadboard so that I can manually step the motors using a couple of AA batteries.

This video is for Xbox 360 users who's HD DVD add-on drives seem to just randomly read HD DVD discs or none at all, however, the DVD will work fine. Save your HD DVD entertainment with $10 and and about 30 minutes of your time.
I made several cuts during filming since I was low on memory on the camcorder. Trust me that I did not swap with a working drive. My final comment at the end of the video is meant as a joke, as I know the irony in that I have a "dead" format with a "dead" TV type.
The company on Ebay that I bought the laser from is called Foreversafe. Some of the vendors list it as a Blu Ray laser, but both formats use 405nm Blue Violet diodes that read at the same frequencies.
The laser model number was DT0811. Disassemble your drive and confirm which laser it uses before you buy, I'm not aware if the laser assemblies are different on the drives.
NOTE: All the movies are working except my Warner Brothers titles. When I figure out what's wrong I will post a video. Other than that it worked like a charm. Enjoy!
