After the quest Long Way Home is complete, Merril will be available as a party member. Until then, she just occupies the party as an uncontrollable ally.
Merril is a blood mage, so Constitution rather than Willpower should be prioritized when distributing her attribute points. I recommend having her go through the Primal skill tree and learn upgraded Wrath of the Elven from her unique skill tree to make her very hardy; (a good early game tank). There are items in the game that can increase the efficiency of her blood magic, so keep your eyes open.
She likes it when you defend mage rights and doesn't appreciate it when you criticize her or dealings with demons.

You'll find the gloves for an armor set near the entrance of the Sundermount Caverns. The gloves you find depend on the combat class of Hawke.

In the caves. Silverite is just before the final chamber, and the Seal is a fetch quest item and is in a crate in the final chamber.

Dragon Age 2:
Set in the mythical world of Thedas, Dragon Age II tells the story of Hawke, who fled the nation of Ferelden during the events of Dragon Age: Origins and traveled across the Waking Sea to the Free Marches and the city of Kirkwall as a refugee. Within the span of a decade, Hawke would rise in power and influence to become the legendary "Champion of Kirkwall", and the center of events that change the course of Thedas. The story unfolds through flashbacks from the perspective of Varric, one of Hawke's companions who relates the Champion's "true story" to Cassandra Pentaghast, his interrogator. The story is told in three acts; a gap of almost three years separates each act from the subsequent one. Dragon Age II has a linear frame narrative, mainly based on the protagonist's choices. Although the player has a great influence on how the story develops, the game's main plot remains unaltered until the very last quest where the player must choose one of the two endings.

Walkthrough of the fourth quest in Dragon Age 2, "Long Way Home"
1.) When confronted with a crowd of spiders, use "Shield Bash" to clear some room.
2.) Keep an eye on all parties health bars, it is better to heal them with a potion than wait for them to get injured.
3.) It is located very close to your new home, look for the upside down hanging man statue.
3.) Bring the battle closer to the skeleton archers so they don't have the advantage with distance

Dragon Age II
Dragon Age II is an action role-playing video game developed by BioWare, and published by Electronic Arts. It is the second major game in the Dragon Age franchise. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Mac OS X on March 8, 2011 in North America, March 10, 2011 in Australia and March 11, 2011 in Europe.
Set in the same mythical world introduced in Dragon Age: Origins, the player assumes the role of Hawke, a human mage, warrior, or rogue who arrives in the city of Kirkwall as a lowly refugee but becomes its legendary champion over a turbulent decade of political and social conflict.
The game received relatively positive reviews, with most criticisms directed on differences between Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Origins, such as the removal of the origin stories and race choices, the noticeably smaller world, and the combat system.
Gameplay
Dragon Age II is a role-playing game. The player starts the game by creating a character whose family name is "Hawke". The player decides the given name, gender, appearance and combat specialty (role) of Hawke. Hawke can be either a warrior (who wields sword, axe, mace and shield), a rogue (who wields dagger or bow and arrow) or a mage (who wields a magical staff and uses magic).

Dragon Age 2:
Set in the mythical world of Thedas, Dragon Age II tells the story of Hawke, who fled the nation of Ferelden during the events of Dragon Age: Origins and traveled across the Waking Sea to the Free Marches and the city of Kirkwall as a refugee. Within the span of a decade, Hawke would rise in power and influence to become the legendary "Champion of Kirkwall", and the center of events that change the course of Thedas. The story unfolds through flashbacks from the perspective of Varric, one of Hawke's companions who relates the Champion's "true story" to Cassandra Pentaghast, his interrogator. The story is told in three acts; a gap of almost three years separates each act from the subsequent one. Dragon Age II has a linear frame narrative, mainly based on the protagonist's choices. Although the player has a great influence on how the story develops, the game's main plot remains unaltered until the very last quest where the player must choose one of the two endings.

Dragon Age 2:
Set in the mythical world of Thedas, Dragon Age II tells the story of Hawke, who fled the nation of Ferelden during the events of Dragon Age: Origins and traveled across the Waking Sea to the Free Marches and the city of Kirkwall as a refugee. Within the span of a decade, Hawke would rise in power and influence to become the legendary "Champion of Kirkwall", and the center of events that change the course of Thedas. The story unfolds through flashbacks from the perspective of Varric, one of Hawke's companions who relates the Champion's "true story" to Cassandra Pentaghast, his interrogator. The story is told in three acts; a gap of almost three years separates each act from the subsequent one. Dragon Age II has a linear frame narrative, mainly based on the protagonist's choices. Although the player has a great influence on how the story develops, the game's main plot remains unaltered until the very last quest where the player must choose one of the two endings.

2.) Keep an eye on all parties health bars, it is better to heal them with a potion than wait for them to get injured.
3.) It is located very close to your new home, look for the upside down hanging man statue.
