Uzbek Massacre (2010): In June 2010 ethnic tensions in Kyrgyzstan overflowed and a conflict ensued which killed hundreds and displaced hundreds of thousands. Now it is emerging that the government may have been behind the attacks.
Months after the conflict in June and the Kyrgyz government has yet to respond to calls for an investigation. Kuranda Seyit's report suggests government involvement in attacks on Uzbeks might be why. "although the initial violence was between two groups...the overall violence was much, much, much worse and was perpetrated against Uzbeks. It was clear that it was systematic. It was planned". Seyit brings us footage, smuggled out of Kyrgystan, of the aftermath of attacks on Uzbeks. Kyrgs always claimed the conflict was instigated by Uzbeks, "the Uzbeks started this". However Seyit and Human Rights Watch in their investigations have found evidence that the government may have been at the heart of this ethnic cleansing "there are serious concerns...government forces either actively participated in, or facilitated, attacks on Uzbek neighbourhoods".

Thousands of ethnic Uzbeks are trying to escape southern Kyrgyzstan after clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks killed dozens of people in the city of Osh.
The Uzbeks are trying to cross the border into Uzbekistan.
The Kyrgyz interim government has admitted that it has lost control of Osh, the country's second largest city, and has asked for Russian help to quell the violence.

Uzbeks
The Uzbeks (Oʻzbek/Ўзбек, pl. Oʻzbeklar/Ўзбеклар) are the largest Turkic ethnic group in Central Asia. They comprise the majority population of Uzbekistan but are also found as a minority group in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia and China. Uzbek diaspora communities also exist in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.
Etymology
The origin of the word Uzbek remains disputed. One view holds that it is eponymously named after Oghuz Khagan. Oghuz Khagan also known as Oghuz Beg, the word Uzbek is derived from the name of Oghuz Beg. Another states that the name means independent or the lord itself, from Oʻz (self) and the Turkic title Bek/Bey/Beg. There is another theory which holds that the pronunciation of Uz comes from one of the Oghuz Turks variously known as Uz or Uguz united with the word Bey or Bek to form uguz-bey, meaning "leader of an oguz".

Thousands of ethnic Uzbeks are trying to escape southern Kyrgyzstan after clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks killed dozens of people in the city of Osh.
The Uzbeks are trying to cross the border into Uzbekistan.
The Kyrgyz interim government has admitted that it has lost control of Osh, the country's second largest city, and has asked for Russian help to quell the violence.

Part of the Legacy Repertoire Silk Road Dance Company, this Uzbek Bukharan dance was created in 2013 by People's Artist of Uzbekistan, Viloyat Akilova as a solo for People's Artist of Uzbekistan, Kizlarkhon Dusmuhamedova. "The Ethnic Origins of Beauty" (Les origines de la beauté) is a non-profit, artistic, documentary and research project about the ethnic diversity of mankind, presented through the beauty of women of all ethnic groups of the world.
The objectif of this project is to show the real scale of ethnocultural diversity in a full, systematic and creative way; to illustrate each and every distinctive ethnicity, however small it is, and whatever its official status.
It is the ethnicities put on the base of the project, rather than countries, to show the picture of human diversity vividly, which we do not see when focusing only at racial or national typologies that are characteristic for the most international competitions or other events. Limiting only by civil affiliation, 90% of existing peoples stay invisible, because they are not presented as independent countries.
The project “The Ethnic Origins of Beauty” received the acknowledgment of UNESCO and was first officially presented at an exhibition devoted to international women’s day in March 2014, at its Parisian headquarters.
Apart of Internet publishing, broadcasting on TV, exhibitions, publications of books, DVDs and other are planned all along and at the end of the project
The project started in 2012, but it is only in the early stages of its realisation and in constant need of help. We would appreciate any kind of support, cooperation or partnership.

Both dancers were trained by the famous Isaqar Akilov, part of a celebrated ineage of artists going back to the court of the Emir of Bukhara. This dance was gifted to Silk Road Dance Company. Choreographic adaptation by Dr. Laurel Victoria Gray, copyright 2014. The award-winning Silk Road Dance Company also performed at the historic White House Celebration of Nowruz/Navruz with introduction by First Lady Michelle Obama Founded in 1995 by Dr. Laurel Victoria Gray, the ensemble has a repertoire of over 200 dances from Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Middle East.

Uzbekistan's signature dish is palov (plov or osh or "pilaf"), a main course typically made with rice, pieces of meat, grated carrots and onions. It is usually cooked in a kazan (or deghi) over an open fire; chickpeas, raisins, barberries, or fruit may be added for variation. Although often prepared at home for family and guests by the head of household or the housewife, palov is made on special occasions by the oshpaz, or theosh master chef, who cooks the national dish over an open flame, sometimes serving up to 1,000 people from a single cauldron on holidays or occasions such as weddings. The trip then continues from former Soviet Central Asia to the Middle East and Turkey. With its swirling mix of ethnic identities, this region is now carving out a new period of history led by the resurgence of Islam. A visit to a new city that has emerged near the border between Kyrgyzstan and China. The city shows rapid growth due to the huge influx of Chinese goods. Heading west, we will see the cotton fields spread out across a huge oasis in Uzbekistan. We also explore the beautiful, white-bricked city of Bukhara, which still maintains an atmosphere of the Middle Ages. In one of the city's narrow streets, Uzbekis, Russians, Jews, and others live together side-by-side in harmony. It's one of the nastiest, most repressive dictatorships in Asia but its relationship with Washington has helped it avoid censor. Just how valuable an ally is Uzbekistan in the War on Terror?
Critics of the government risk being tortured to death, there's no freedom of speech and all opposition parties are banned. "This is not a government. It's a monster against its own people," laments Prof Mirsaidov. In the name of fighting Islamic terror, Uzbekistan has jailed thousands of members of Hiz-but-Tahrir. The problem is, many claim they are innocent and confessions are extracted under torture. But despite its appalling human rights record, few Western governments seem willing to criticise it. Uzbekistan is now regarded as a key ally in the War on Terror. It allows the US to use its airbases to support operations in Afghanistan and American agents are believed to have 'rendered' terrorist suspects to Uzbekistan to be tortured. However, there are growing fears that siding with this repressive regime to fight terrorism is counter productive. As former British Ambassador Craig Murray states: "Our short sighted policy in Asia is creating the terrorism we claim we are fighting."
