Pakistan (i/ˈpækᵻstæn/ or i/pɑːkiˈstɑːn/; Urdu: پاكستان ALA-LC: Pākistān, pronounced [pɑːkɪst̪ɑːn]), officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (Urdu: اسلامی جمہوریۂ پاكستان ALA-LC: Islāmī Jumhūriyah Pākistān IPA: [ɪslɑːmiː d͡ʒʊmɦuːriəɪh pɑːkɪst̪ɑːn]), is a country in South Asia. It is the sixth-most populous country with a population exceeding 199 million people. It is the 36th largest country in the world in terms of area with an area covering 881,913 km2 (340,509 sq mi). Pakistan has a 1,046-kilometre (650 mi) coastline along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman in the south and is bordered by India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, Iran to the southwest and China in the far northeast respectively. It is separated from Tajikistan by Afghanistan's narrow Wakhan Corridor in the north, and also shares a maritime border with Oman.
The territory that now constitutes Pakistan was previously home to several ancient cultures, including the Mehrgarh of the Neolithic and the Bronze Age Indus Valley Civilisation, and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of different faiths and cultures, including Hindus, Indo-Greeks, Muslims, Turco-Mongols, Afghans and Sikhs. The area has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Indian Mauryan Empire, the Persian Achaemenid Empire, Alexander of Macedonia, the Arab Umayyad Caliphate, the Mongol Empire, the Mughal Empire, the Durrani Empire, the Sikh Empire and the British Empire. As a result of the Pakistan Movement led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the subcontinent's struggle for independence, Pakistan was created in 1947 as an independent nation for Muslims from the regions in the east and west of the Subcontinent where there was a Muslim majority. Initially a dominion, Pakistan adopted a new constitution in 1956, becoming an Islamic republic. A civil war in 1971 resulted in the secession of East Pakistan as the new country of Bangladesh.
Gilgit-Baltistan (Urdu: گلگت بلتستان), formerly known as the Northern Areas of Pakistan is the northern most administrative territory of Pakistan. It borders Azad Kashmir to the south, the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the west, the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan to the north, Xinjiang, China, to the east and northeast and Jammu and Kashmir to the southeast. The region, together with Azad Kashmir, Aksai Chin, Shakshagam Valley of China and Jammu and Kashmir, is disputed between India, China and Pakistan.
Gilgit-Baltistan is an autonomous self-governing region that was established as a single administrative unit in 1970, formed by the amalgamation of the Gilgit Agency, the Baltistan region and the former princely states of Hunza and Nagar. It covers an area of 72,971 km² (28,174 sq mi) and is highly mountainous. It had an estimated population of 1,441,523 in 2011. Its capital city is Gilgit (population 216,760 est).
Ranikot Fort (Sindhi: رني ڪوٽ, Urdu: قلعہ رانی کوٹ) is a historical fort near Sann, Jamshoro District, Sindh, Pakistan. Ranikot Fort is also known as The Great Wall of Sindh سنڌ جي عظيم ديوار and is believed to be the world's largest fort with a circumference of approximately 26 kilometres (16 mi). The fort has been compared to the Great Wall of China. Since 1993, nominated by the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Education under the cultural criteria, it has been on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The fort is listed as a historical site under the Antiquities Act 1975 and its subsequent amendments and is provided protection.
Ranikot Fort is 90 kilometres (56 mi) to the north of Hyderabad on the national highway. There is also an easy access of about an hour's journey from Karachi to Sann on the Indus Highway. A diversion road, starting a little distance away from Sann, the nearest town, leads to the fort along a rugged 21 kilometres (13 mi) road and reaches the eastern gate of the fort, known as Sann Gate. Sann is a rail head on the Kotri-Larkana line of the Pakistan Railway. It is inside the Kirthar National Park, the second largest national park in Pakistan.

No one knows of the origin of the wall but it is said to be built before Christ. Pakistan used to be part of the ancient trading route of the silk road. These days trucks have replaced camels. However, the decorative arts of the silk road live on in the psychedelic painted trucks of Pakistan. As an owner once said. "Why would anyone want their goods delivered in an undecorated truck?" This is my thesis film for MA in Communication design at Kingston University London. The objective is to narrate the story of Pakistan as a progressive, vibrant and lively nation. A country that has defied perceptions and connects to the world promising tremendous opportunities with a focus on factors that people and the media do not talk about and target local and international audience to affirm positivity and motivation, emphasize existing advances and spread the idea of a bright future. This revolves around having an assenting narrative and also about Pakistan commanding the message so it works in a way that generates an impact which is sustained, meaning it’s not just for today but for the future as well. The aim is to come up with a visual log providing continued constructive fortifi...

Pakistan - one of the last adventure backpacking frontiers! This is a country filled with awesomeness; with five of the world's fourteen highest peaks, ancient glaciers, roaring rivers, untapped white water rafting, stunning treks, some of the world's most friendly people, plenty of adventure and, of course, the ancient silk road leading all the way to China... I travelled to Pakistan overland, from Iran, in February 2016 and spent five weeks backpacking this incredible country before heading to India and driving a multi-coloured tuk tuk across the subcontinent... I quickly decided that I missed Pakistan and, in just one month's time, I will be returning for another couple of months of adventure backpacking, trekking and mountaineering in this incredible country. A huge thankyou to uT...

In April 2013, I will begin my solo motorbike adventure starting in Perth, Western Australia and ending in Tallinn, Estonia. The journey is expected to take 12 months crossing some of the most remote and culturally rich locations in the world. I have previously travelled to nearly 50 countries, most of which are 2nd and 3rd world countries. I choose these countries because it is there that I more often experience the vividly intense nature of life & death and the world’s most natural beauty. I am what you could call a YOYO - Year on, year off. I work as a FIFO for a year, saving up all I can to then go travelling for around 12 months. I then return back to mining to save up for another travel venture. On this particular trip I will be using an adventure motorbike customised specific...

New research has shown that Brits are seriously unprepared for their holidays, especially when it comes to considering their health. Six in ten adults have admitted to falling ill whilst on holiday, which is unsurprising as health comes in at the bottom of the list of concerns after being robbed (27%) and the flight crashing (23%). Concerns about different food, water or environment mean the top destinations Brit’s perceive as high risk are Africa (19%), India (18%) and Pakistan (14%). In reality, the top three places where holidaymakers fall ill are Spain (32%), Greece (14%) and France (9%). Over 40% of UK travellers experience Travellers’ Diarrhoea each year making it the primary health problem encountered while abroad. A bout of this can be costly in terms of both days lost on the...

Flamboyant, colourful and eccentric, many among Pakistan's marginalised transgender community scrape a living through dancing, singing and begging on the streets of the country’s economic capital, Karachi. Many others, though, earn money catering for the sexual needs of local men in the city's seedier districts. Investigating a never-before-seen side of life in Pakistan, this film from Oscar and EMMY award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy follows the stories of three transgender people, who each represent a different way of life in the country. Maggie is a prostitute who dreams of becoming an air hostess, while Chahat was abandoned by her middle-class family to beg on the streets. Sana is Karachi's most sought-after transgender dancer, desperate to give up the profession after a par...
