Lotion

A lotion is a low-viscosity topical preparation intended for application to unbroken skin. By contrast, creams and gels have higher viscosity.

Lotions are applied to external skin with bare hands, a brush, a clean cloth, cotton wool, or gauze. While lotion may be used as a medicine delivery system, many lotions, especially hand lotions and body lotions are meant instead to simply smooth, moisturize and soften the skin. These may be used in anti-aging lotions, which can also be classified as a cosmetic in many cases, and may contain fragrances. The Food and Drug Administration voiced concern about lotions not classified as drugs that advertise anti-aging or anti-wrinkle properties.

Medicine delivery

Dermatologists can prescribe lotions to treat or prevent skin diseases. It is not unusual for the same drug ingredient to be formulated into a lotion, cream and ointment. Creams are the most convenient of the three but are inappropriate for application to regions of hairy skin such as the scalp, while a lotion is less viscous and may be readily applied to these areas (many medicated shampoos are in fact lotions). Historically, lotions also had an advantage in that they may be spread thinly compared to a cream or ointment and may economically cover a large area of skin, but product research has steadily eroded this distinction. Non-comedogenic lotions are recommended for use on acne prone skin.

Lotion (band)

Lotion was a Manhattan indie rock band formed in 1991 by brothers Bill and Jim Ferguson (bass guitar and guitar respectively), drummer Rob Youngberg, and vocalist/guitarist Tony Zajkowski.

Career

Lotion formed in New York City's East Village and released two seven-inch singles—"Head" and "Tear"—on Kokopop before releasing their debut album—Full Isaac—through spinArt Records in 1994. The album received album of the year from The Village Voice.

To promote the release of Full Isaac, Lotion toured America and Europe with Pavement, Throwing Muses, and Mercury Rev. In 1995, the band released a self-titled EP on Big Cat Records, with a second EP—The Agnew Funeral E.P.—recorded the next year. In 1996, Lotion released their second album—Nobody's Cool—, with liner notes by Thomas Pynchon.

The Telephone Album followed in 1998. During the promotion for this album, the band made an appearance during an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and toured the US with Frank Black and the Catholics.

Blackjack

Blackjack, also known as twenty-one, is the most widely played casino banking game in the world. Blackjack is a comparing card game between a player and dealer, meaning players compete against the dealer but not against other players. It is played with one or more decks of 52 cards. The object of the game is to beat the dealer in one of the following ways:

The player or players are dealt a two-card hand and add together the value of their cards. Face cards (kings, queens, and jacks) are counted as ten points. A player and the dealer can count an ace as 1 point or 11 points. All other cards are counted as the numeric value shown on the card. After receiving their first two cards, players have the option of getting a "hit", or taking an additional card. In a given round, the player or the dealer wins by having a score of 21 or by having the higher score that is less than 21. Scoring higher than 21 (called "busting" or "going bust") results in a loss. A player may win by having any final score equal to or less than 21 if the dealer busts. If a player holds an ace valued as 11, the hand is called "soft", meaning that the player cannot go bust by taking an additional card; 11 plus the value of any other card will always be less than or equal to 21. Otherwise, the hand is "hard".

Black Jack (Australian band)

Black Jack was an Australian Heavy metal/classical band that was active in the 1980/90's.

History

Blackjack formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1979, releasing a demo that same year and another in 1983. An EP on the Metal for Melbourne label in 1985, Five Pieces o' Eight, was recorded at 'Saturn studio' with George Simak (Taramis). A much anticipated first and second album was recorded, but never released, due to work loads and the death of two of their members. Their musical style included elements of NWOBHM, classical, power metal and doom metal. They were fronted by the brothers Rick and Jonny Giles, direct descendants of Thomas Giles (who was hung for piracy), and are still currently active, re-recording at their own studio/live venue 'Guruland Studios' and 'Voodoo Lounge' with engineer Kevin Welgus. There is a serious chance of a live re-appearance as rehearsals between the members are currently underway. At the moment, they play more conventional rock under the guise of 'Rick Giles' CRACKERJACK' and a black metal project 'POISON BLOOD' featuring guest stalwart Peter Hobbs from 'ANGEL OF DEATH' in Victoria. They were among the first to fuse pirate themes into metal.

Transformers (toy line)

The Transformers (トランスフォーマー, Toransufomā) is a line of toys produced by the Japanese company Takara (now known as Takara Tomy) and American toy company Hasbro. The Transformers toyline was created from toy molds mostly produced by Japanese company Takara in the toylines Diaclone and Microman. Other toy molds from other companies such as Bandai were used as well. In 1984, Hasbro bought the distribution rights to the molds and rebranded them as the Transformers for distribution in North America. Hasbro would go on to buy the entire toy line from Takara, giving them sole ownership of the Transformers toy-line, branding rights, and copyrights, while in exchange, Takara was given the rights to produce the toys and the rights to distribute them in the Japanese market. The premise behind the Transformers toyline is that an individual toy's parts can be shifted about to change it from a vehicle, a device, or an animal, to a robot action figure and back again. The taglines "More Than Meets The Eye" and "Robots In Disguise" reflect this ability.
