Tuamotus
The Tuamotus or the Tuamotu Archipelago (French: Îles Tuamotu, officially Archipel des Tuamotu) are a chain of islands and atolls in French Polynesia. They form the largest chain of atolls in the world, spanning an area of the Pacific Ocean roughly the size of Western Europe. The Tuamotu islands were originally settled by Polynesians who share a common culture and language. The islands were originally called by the Tahitians of Tahiti the Paumotus, which means the "Subservient Islands", until a delegation from the island convinced the French authorities to change it to Tuamotus, which means the "Distant Islands".
Administrative divisions
French Polynesia is a semi-autonomous island group designated as an overseas country of France. The Tuamotus combine with the Gambier Islands to form the Îles Tuamotu-Gambier which is one of the five administrative divisions of French Polynesia.
The Tuamotus are grouped into sixteen communes: Anaa; Arutua; Fakarava; Fangatau; Hao; Hikueru; Makemo; Manihi; Napuka; Nukutavake; Puka Puka; Rangiroa; Reao; Takaroa; Tatakoto; and Tureia.

French Polynesia (
i/ˈfrɛntʃ pɒlᵻˈniːʒə/; French: Polynésie française [pɔlinezi fʁɑ̃sɛz]; Tahitian: Pōrīnetia Farāni) is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic; collectivité d'outre-mer de la République française (COM), sometimes unofficially referred to as an overseas country; pays d'outre-mer (POM). It is composed of 118 geographically dispersed islands and atolls stretching over an expanse of more than 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) in the South Pacific Ocean. Its total land area is 4,167 square kilometres (1,609 sq mi).
French Polynesia is divided into 5 groups of islands: The Society Islands archipelago composed of the Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands, the Tuamotu Archipelago, the Gambier Islands, the Marquesas Islands and the Austral Islands. Among its 118 islands and atolls, 67 are inhabited. Tahiti, which is located within the Society Islands, is the most populous island and the seat of the capital of the collectivity, Pape'ete. It has more than 68% of the population of the islands in 2012. Although not an integral part of its territory, Clipperton Island was administered from French Polynesia until 2007.

Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades islands, with bubbling springs and gently-flowing streams, colourful fields and fertile valleys plus a wealth of water, fruit and vegetables. On Paros, the jewel of the Greek Orthodox church, Katapoliani, is the island’s oldest and largest church and dates back to the 6th century. Legendary location of the mythical lost island of Atlantis, Santorini is the most southerly of the Cyclades islands, a breathtaking paradise of rock, lava, sea and light where survival has meant a constant battle against the forces of nature. Its unique dimensions are due to a natural disaster of devastating proportion when over 3,500 years ago a volcanic eruption sank most of the island beneath the sea. Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades islands, with bubbling springs and gently-flowing streams, colourful fields and fertile valleys plus a wealth of water, fruit and vegetables. On Paros, the jewel of the Greek Orthodox church, Katapoliani, is the island’s oldest and largest church and dates back to the 6th century. Legendary location of the mythical lost island of Atlantis, Santorini is the most southerly of the Cyclades islands, a breathtaking paradise of rock, lava, sea and light where survival has meant a constant battle against the forces of nature. Its unique dimensions are due to a natural disaster of devastating proportion when over 3,500 years ago a volcanic eruption sank most of the island beneath the sea. In places arid, in places fertile, but always a feast to the eye. Was it not the Greek god, Poseidon who threw a handful of rocks onto the seabed, which took root, and created…the Cyclades?
