The Tropic of Cancer, also referred to as the Northern Tropic, is the most northerly circle of latitude on the Earth at which the Sun may appear directly overhead at its culmination. This event occurs once per year, at the time of the Northern solstice, when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun to its maximum extent. As of 3 February 2016, it lies at 23°26′13.9″ (or 23.4372°) north of the Equator.
Its Southern Hemisphere counterpart, marking the most southerly position at which the Sun may appear directly overhead, is the Tropic of Capricorn. These tropics are two of the five major degree measures or major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth, besides the Arctic and Antarctic Circles and the Equator. The positions of these circles of latitude (relative to the Equator) are dictated by the tilt of the Earth's axis of rotation relative to the plane of its orbit.

Final installment of our Room 205 episode with Tropic of Cancer, featuring the long gaze and subtle ways of minimal wave chanteuse Camella Lobo and musical associate Taylor Burch. For this stark, spellbinding episode of Room 205, director Luis Farfan worked closely with director of photography Conor Simpson, set designer Tamarra Younis, editor Forrest Borie and sound engineer Jon Gilbert to capture the band's mesmerizing live performance while crafting a world of abstract symbols, ambient sounds and cinematic contrasts, entirely elegant and arresting in their own right. BIO Los Angeles based artist Camella Lobo has been quietly releasing music under the moniker Tropic Of Cancer since 2009. Drenched in romanticism and soaked in themes of solitude, mortality and love, her music forms a str...

by Edoardo Mulargia, Gian Paolo Lomi. with Gabriele Tinti, Anthony Steffen, Anita Strindberg, Stelio Candelli, Umberto Raho 95 min. - Italia 1972 Nothing to do with Henry Miller's infamous novel of the same title, this exotic thriller is an attempt to combine the giallo and horror genres, plus a touch of mondo thrown in for good measure (the film asserts that 'documentary sequences were filmed from life and are completely authentic'). Consequently, there is an orgiastic voodoo rite, in which the participants are clearly in a state of delirium, a cock fight, and a spectacular marriage ceremony which provides the backdrop for the revelatory finale. The film is suffused with stereotypical racist notions, playing upon some white people's fear of a black crowd, and of black sexuality (Strind...

An extract about the Mexican drug war -- edited together by Mike Lopez -- taken from the TV series Tropic of Cancer, shown on BBC2 during 2010. In this series Simon Reeve circled the world following the line that marks the northern border of Earth's tropical region. After his acclaimed series Equator and Tropic of Capricorn this epic trip completed Simon's trilogy of journeys exploring the tropics. Simon started his journey on the paradise beaches of Mexico's Pacific Coast, and then circumnavigated the planet, heading east across the Caribbean, the Sahara, crossing borders in North Africa closed to foreigners for decades, and then on through the deserts of Arabia and the remote jungles of Asia, to finish in Hawaii. He visited 18 countries, meeting amazing people, witnessing bizarre and bea...

Visiting the tropic of Cancer in Taiwan. Though there is no remarkable line like one on a globe, of course. This dialogue between Simon Reeves and his Mauritanian Guide on the two mile iron ore train at 2:04 is priceless. They are getting down to their grits, but the guide wont share his sardines which Simon reckons are tuna. Apparently tuna is a baaaaad word in Mauritanian and translated means (according to the guide, who incidentally is a crakkin guy) a family part of a lady. This had me so creased up so I searched YouTube for it and could find it nowhere, (tho I found the large lady bit). I had deleted the program off Sky + HD so could not share this wonderful repertoire. Being dogmatic I plonked up Iplayer and recorded it with me flip cam, thus the awful visual. My apologise for SpongeBob Squarepants descending into shot, if Ive told him once I have told him twice (ahhhh the beauty of t...

Sing that song that no one wants to hear
Sing that song so loud and sing it clear
Sing that song that no one seems to know
Sing it to me slow
Bring me back to when i was a boy
Full of life and love and full of joy
Bring me back to when i was a child
Baby make me smile
Tropic of cancer
You win and you lose
Get so high and so low
And so blue
Limping to the finish with my pride
Next time it won’t be somebody’s bride
Yin and yang discreetly by my side
How was it for you
Tropic et cancer
You win and you lose
Get so high and so low
And so blue
Tropic of cancer
You win and you lose
Get so high and so low
