George Clinton (born July 22, 1941) is an American singer, songwriter, bandleader, and music producer. He was the principal architect of P-Funk, the mastermind of the bands Parliament and Funkadelic during the 1970s and early 1980s, and launched a solo career in 1981. He has been cited as one of the foremost innovators of funk music, along with James Brown and Sly Stone. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, alongside 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic.
Clinton was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey, and currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida. During his teen years Clinton formed a doo wop group inspired by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers called The Parliaments, while straightening hair at a barber salon in Plainfield.
For a period in the 1960s Clinton was a staff songwriter for Motown. Despite initial commercial failure and one major hit single, ("(I Wanna) Testify" in 1967), as well as arranging and producing scores of singles on many of the independent Detroit soul music labels, The Parliaments eventually found success under the names Parliament and Funkadelic in the 1970s (see also P-Funk). These two bands combined the elements of musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, Cream, and James Brown while exploring various sounds, technology, and lyricism. Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic dominated diverse music during the 1970s with over 40 R&B hit singles (including three number ones) and three platinum albums.

Plot: High School students Salvadore and Carmine Dementia, while working on a science project, inadvertently create an inexpensive computer operating system and Internet browser that doesn't crash! The Dementias strike it rich when the boys' project appears on the Evening News, and it convinces a Hong Kong-based company to flood the market with an inexpensive black-market version of Microsoft Windows called Chindows. The entire Dementia Family, thanks to young Carmine and Salvadore, have now become dot-com millionaires. With the rest of the dysfunctional Dementia family sporting only grade-school educations at best, the Dementias begin to flaunt their new-found wealth. As they begin to convert their modest Long Island home into a white statue-laden mansion, the first order of business is to construct a haunted house for Halloween to impress their working-class neighbors, who are portrayed by movie stars and comedians in cameo roles. As practical joking has been ingrained in the Dementia family persona for generations, one never knows what lighthearted prank the Dementias will pull next. So trick-or-treating at the Dementias each year makes one wonder what is a gag and what is real. With Chindows flooding the market, things begin to go awry. As the viewer tries to discover whether it is the other competing software companies, the Long Island mafia, or just scheming Uncle Ralph Dementia...someone is continually trying to kill Salvatore's dad, Salvadore Sr., the now-wealthy patriarch of the family. Was building a haunted house to impress the neighbors the right decision???

1982) The mastermind of the Parliament/Funkadelic collective during the 1970s, George Clinton broke up both bands by 1981 and began recording solo albums, occasionally performing live with his former bandmates as the P.Funk All-Stars. Born in Kannapolis, NC, on July 22, 1940, Clinton became interested in doo wop while living in New Jersey during the early '50s. He formed the Parliaments in 1955, based out of a barbershop back room where he straightened hair. The group had a small R&B; hit during 1967, but Clinton began to mastermind the Parliaments' activities two years later. Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, the group revolutionized R&B; during the '70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-'60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Ston...

Earlier this week, the inimitable George Clinton sat for not one but two conversations about his work and where it comes from. First, he spoke with the host of NPR Music's R&B; channel, Jason King, about soul music, swag and Kendrick Lamar. Then, after the Museum Of The Moving Image screened Clinton's 20-year-old film Cosmic Slop, he took the stage for an interview conducted by songwriter, producer and musician James Mtume. The two industry veterans traded stories about Miles Davis and staying in the game. Clinton's memoir, Brothers Be, Yo Like George, Ain't That Funkin' Kind Of Hard On You?, was released earlier this month along with five new songs, and a new Funkadelic album is hard on its heels.–NPR STAFF CREDITS Producers: Mito Habe-Evans, Frannie Kelley; Host: Jason King; Event Manag...

From his early musical beginnings in doo-wop and as a songwriter at Motown, the hugely prolific Clinton went on to form the bands Parliament and Funkadelic, two of the most important groups of the 1970s. With Clinton at the helm of their Mothership, they uprooted funk from its earthly origins, sendin...
In the 1970s, America was one nation under a groove as an irresistible new style of music took hold of the country - funk. The music burst out of the black community at a time of self-discovery, struggle and social change. Funk reflected all of that. It has produced some of the most famous, eccentric and best-loved acts in the world - James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, George Clinton's Funkadelic and Parliament, Kool & the Gang and Earth, Wind & Fire. During the 1970s this fun, futuristic and freaky music changed the streets of America with its outrageous fashion, space-age vision and streetwise slang. But more than that, funk was a celebration of being black, providing a platform for a new philosophy, belief system and lifestyle that was able to unite young black Americans into taking ...

In this classic interview with George Clinton aka Dr Funkenstein from 1996, we got his lowdown on sampling in the old days and what he thinks of music today: "You don't need drugs when you get bands like Public Enemy and Anthrax together. You really don't need nothing. You can take apple juice cause the vibe is like, 'Closed Caption For The Hearing Impaired'. It's so loud you can't hear but you can read the body language." Maggot Brain is a state of mind and then the condition and position of your ass... Free your mind and your ass will follow !
King Nut the Nubian Tut
Say follow follow they use their ears
Say follow follow then they use their minds
But when they follow your body
then they loose their minds
Let me tell you a little story about King Nut,
the natives call him the Nubian Tut
out of 1407 he came to be somewhere around 2000 B.C.
well the natives clap for the Nubian sap
then sit back and listen to the King Nuts rap
Do It!
Shaka do da Shaka do da Shaka do da
Shaka do da Shaka do da Shaka do da
I know you hitting be true
Knee deep in the jungle where the coconuts grow
where the tiger and the lion boogie with the rhinos
there's a tribe over here there's a tribe over there
drums beating funky rhythm, music's everywhere
doing the Nubian Nut
Say follow follow they loose their ears
Say follow follow then they loose their minds
High high high
Doo doo doo doo doo
Shoo bee doo bee doo dow
Doo dow doo dow doo dow
King Nubian never got hot before a show
'cause in the motherland they didn't wear too many clothes
people talk that talk break out the camel walk
then he wiggle through the jungle just as quick as a hawk
Then he grab his spear then he grab his shield
show all the native people just how good he feel
doing the Nubian Nut
say you got what you got gotten gotten goo ga got
Ho! doing the Nubian Nut
Say follow follow they loose their ears
Say follow follow then they loose their minds
Say follow follow then they loose their mouths
Late at night he'd talk his crap
while soaking his feet in some Nubian sap
he had a bone through his ear and one through his nose
the women in the tribe would massage his toes
Yeah!
When he asks you what's jumpin' it's the peas in the pot
they wouldn't be jumping if the water wasn't hot
doing the Nubian Nut
Yeah follow follow follow follow
follow follow follow follow
The people didn't know where the beat was coming from
but they knew it had to be another Nubian drum
King Nut is the future history
somewhere around 2000 A.D.
holding up the shield that's a glowing green
Raising a spear that shoots laser beams
riding in a spaceship up and down the street
tooting at the fine women on the block he meet
throwing down in studios track by track
letting everybody know the impost right fact
another spaceship here another spaceship there
here a ship there a ship everywhere a mothership
landing in Detroit at United Sounds
where all the funkateers like to boogie down
because most of all we need the funk
Oh uh heh heh heh
Say follow follow they use their ears
Say follow follow then they use their minds
Say follow follow they use their mouths
But when they follow your body
then they loose their minds
follow follow follow follow
follow follow follow follow
