Justice League

The Justice League, also known as the Justice League of America, is a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The Justice League was conceived by writer Gardner Fox, and first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #28 (Feb.-March 1960).

The team is an assemblage of superheroes who join together as the Justice League. The seven original members were Aquaman, Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, the Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Wonder Woman and the team roster has rotated throughout the years, consisting of many superheroes from the DC Universe.

The Justice League received its own comic book title called Justice League of America in October 1960. With the 2011 relaunch of its titles, DC Comics released a second volume of Justice League and in 2015 released a fourth volume of Justice League of America, both of which are currently in print. Since its inception, the team has been featured in various television programs and video games.

Collider

A collider is a type of particle accelerator involving directed beams of particles. Colliders may either be ring accelerators or linear accelerators, and may collide a single beam of particles against a stationary target or two beams head-on.

Colliders are used as a research tool in particle physics by accelerating particles to very high kinetic energy and letting them impact other particles. Analysis of the byproducts of these collisions gives scientists good evidence of the structure of the subatomic world and the laws of nature governing it. These may become apparent only at high energies and for tiny periods of time, and therefore may be hard or impossible to study in other ways.

Explanation

In particle physics one gains knowledge about elementary particles by accelerating particles to very high kinetic energy and letting them impact on other particles. For sufficiently high energy, a reaction happens that transforms the particles into other particles. Detecting these products gives insight into the physics involved.

Jon Schnepp

Jonathan D. "Jon" Schnepp (born May 16, 1967) is an American producer, director, voice actor, editor, writer, cartoonist, animator, and cinematographer whose company, Schneppzone, works on short films and television shows. His documentary film The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened? was met with mostly positive reviews upon its release in 2015. He regularly makes appearances on Collider Movie Talk, and also hosts the Collider talk-show Heroes.

Career

Schnepp served as animation director for Nickelodeon's What's Inside Heidi's Head?, and as editor on numerous episodes of Cartoon Network's Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. He co-directed the pilot for Upright Citizens Brigade for Comedy Central, and directed segments and the Title Sequence for the series run. He also released "The Removers" and "Brainwarp", two pilots he produced and directed, on DVD by Film Threat. He then went to Brazil, working with Debbie Allen, editing and creating the title sequences for two sitcoms airing in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Schnepp co-created, co-wrote, and directed Nerd Hunter 3004 for the Channel 101 pilot. He also guest stars as the voice on three episodes of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In two episodes he voices the Wisdom Cube and in the other he plays The Creature from Plaque Lagoon.

Flashback: Man of Steel (2013) The controversial reboot made after the softly received Richard Donner homage sequel of Bryan Singer’s 2006 Superman Returns, this new vision of Superman came from The Dark Knight Trilogy pair of Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. It is a film that takes a look at the mythology that has been built up over the last 75+ years for the character; which places him in our world today making decisions that have many fans split right down the middle. Watchmen director Zack Snyder was hired to helm this new version, and with it he brought Superman into the new millennium. Schnepp likes to think of all comic book movies as 'Elseworlds' versions because in comics, these characters are constantly changing with the times. This is a version of Superman that is reflecting our times that we live in now; with a story that pushes those themes and ideas forward revealing just what this alien must do to eventually become “Superman.” Spotlight: The Demon This week’s spotlight shines on another of Jack “King” Kirby’s creations, called The Demon. This demon was conjured by Merlin, and fought Morgana Le Fey, but was bonded to one of King Arthur's knights named Jason Blood. This Jekyll and Hyde identity causes immortality with Jason Blood ending up as a Demonologist that fights other monsters and demons across time - speaking in rhymes and, occasionally, teaming up with other supernatural heroes like Swamp Thing. They include The New Mutants on April 13th, Deadpool 2 on June 1st, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix on November 2nd. Now, Fox is betting the hype will continue and have dated six new Marvel movies that will take them through 2021. The new dates include: June 7th and November 22nd in 2019; March 13th, June 26th, and October 2nd in 2020; and March 5th in 2021. Principal photography has begun on David Yates’ untitled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel and with it, Warner Bros has released the official synopsis for the movie, as well as revealing some new character that will be a part of the new adventure that will see Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne back as New Scamander. After the long holiday weekend it’s time for the weekend box office report. Universal and Illumination's Despicable Me 3 grabbed the No 1 spot at the box office, opening well under studio estimates, taking in $72.4 million dollars. In the No 2 spot is Edgar Wright's Baby Driver, which opened on Wednesday grossing $9 million heading into the weekend. It took in $21 million over the three-day weekend. Transformers: The Last Knight dropped 62% in its second week of release, taking in $17 million for the No 3 spot. Wonder Woman landed in the No 4 spot with $15.7 million as the film's domestic total now stands at $346.1 million after five weeks in release. Wonder Woman’s domestic total now puts it as the highest grossing DCEU movie of all time, beating totals for Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. And rounding out the top five is Disney and Pixar’s Cars 3. It made $9.7 million as its domestic total now tops $120 million. BUY OR SELL According to Variety, Paramount Studios has officially given a release to the sequel to Top Gun, dating the movie for a July 12th, 2019 release — 33 years after the original. The movie’s working title, according to Tom Cruise will be entitled Top Gun: Maverick, with Variety also saying that Oblivion helmer Joseph Kosinski is the frontrunner to direct. Thanks to a report from Bloody Disgusting, Lionsgate’s prequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Leatherface, has finally been given a release date of October 20th, 2017. Bloody Disgusting also released some first look images from the movie, which will have the film tracing the origins of the iconic horror character through the story of four escaped mental inmates who kidnap a young nurse and take her on a brutal, bloody road trip. Flashback: Sin City (2005) Frank Miller created an incredible world of hard boiled black and white crime noir comics called Sin City, first starting as short 5 to 7 pagers in Dark Horse presents before going into its own limited series of standalone stories. Robert Rodriquez, known for his el matriachi trilogy and from dusk till dawn and spy kids films, temaed up with Miller to codirect the film adaptation of the comic series. Pushing the boundaries of green screen technology, Rodriquez was able to capture Miller’s world successfully, from the perfect casting of Mickey Rourke as Marv, to the incredible blending of the graphic black and white shadowed treatment of the backgrounds, we all felt like we had entered the world of Sin City Spotlight: The Spectre DC comics has quite an amazing roster of supernatural characters, with The Sandman making it out of the gate first in the cinematic world. Now the cancellation of Constantine, where they introduced Jim Corrigan, the human side of the man who becomes the Spectre, this character is now open to be introduced in the cinematic world. Created in the 1940’s by Jerry Siegal and Bernard Bailey. This all powerful creature seeks out revenge against those who are inately evil, and dispenses gruesome judgement. Twitter Questions

Very little is known about Green Lantern and who will be playing him. Among the coverage from this week’s Entertainment Weekly on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, producer Charles Roven says we’ll see a “fully formed” Green Lantern most likely in Justice League: Part 2. He said; “Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out. So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2. With Supergirl moving from CBS to the CW for her second season, word is that the Man of Steel will be appearing for the first time (not counting a shadowy appearance) in his cousin’s series. Can this signal the return of Smallville’s Tom Welling, or will they cast a new Superman? Brie Larson is frontrunner for Captain Marvel Oscar Winner Brie Larson (Short Term 12, Room) has been named the front runner for the role of Carol Danvers, aka Marvel's first feature length lead heroine Captain Marvel. This leads us to wonder how will they introduce her into the Marvel cinematic Universe. It would make sense to get her involved in the Infinity War, and possibly get her origin wrapped into it as well, before we go into her own feature. How will Captain Marvel be introduced? Flash Hires Dope New Director The feature film version of The Flash has a new director in Rick Famuyiwa, who recently directed the incredible independent film called Dope. Rick posted an image of Flash Comic Book Trades on his Instagram with the quote “Today was a blur.” How much will the screenplay written by previous director Seth Grahame-Smith change, and will this mean possibly recasting the Flash himself? Taking to his Instagram account yesterday, Brolin confirmed he was to begin filming on the currently untitled Avengers 4 and reprising his role as big-baddie Thanos. Though at one point Avengers 4 was said to be the second part of the Infinity War story later, the Russo’s said we’d be getting a whole, different movie with Avengers 4. But with Brolin’s post it’s now clear that Thanos will continue to play a significant role in the MCU, at least for Avengers 4. After Chris Miller and Phil Lord parted ways with Lucasfilm and from their directing duties on the Young Han Solo movie, a question arose as to whether or not Bradford Young, the director of photography, would stay on the production along-side Ron Howard. On Saturday, we got confirmation when Howard took to Twitter posting a picture of him setting up a shot alongside Young. It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report. BUY OR SELL After a number of shake-ups in the DCEU, including Ben Affleck stepping down from directing The Batman and adding Matt Reeves – talk has turned to Joe Manganiello and whether or not he’ll still play Deathstroke in the stand-alone movie. With Reeves announcing he’ll be starting from scratch on the new script, and that he envisions a trilogy of films for the character, what does that mean for Manganiello’s Deathstroke? The actor recently spoke with THR, revealing that he may or may not have information on The Batman. Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment has released the first trailer for Rob Reiner’s LBJ movie, starring Woody Harrelson as the 36th President of the United State of America. The movie sets Harrelson as Lyndon Baines Johnson, who finds himself sidelined in the role of vice president after losing the 1960 Democratic presidential nomination to Senator John F. Kennedy. Everything changes however, when on Nov. 22, 1963, Kennedy is assassinated and Johnson is suddenly thrust into the presidency. Stryker’s Role in X-Men: Apocalypse Empire Magazine released a new article about Stryker's role in X-men: Apocalypse. It goes into some particulars with the Four Horsemen and it seeks as if Stryker catches the four and locks them in a familiar place... Could this be the Weapon X program and if so, can we expect a cameo from Wolverine? The panel looks at the story details so far and whether or not it makes sense in the time frame Bryan Singer is working in. Gambit Delay Leads Doug Liman to Another Project Doug Liman has decided to move on for the time being, with reprts saying that, due to the troubled Gambit film being further delayed, Liman will, instead, focus on a smaller movie called The Wall. The panel looks at the facts with Schnepp straight up asking, is the movie is cancelled already? With all the reports pointing to that outcome, and with Deadpool now officially the highest R-rated movie of all time; a $150 plus budget on Gambit seems to be a tall order to make. Many on the panel believe that the movie will sooner or later be cancelled indefinitely. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Break the Box Office The controversial film that has divided viewers in to very different camps has finally been released and it is a box-office record breaker! The film cleared $424 million globally, with $166 million here in the US. With most critics panning the film and dividing the viewers into either liking or straight up hating the movie, should Chris Terrio and Zack Snyder return to Justice League; even with principal photography starting in two weeks? Dawn of Deleted Scenes (Spoilers) With the Batman v Superman weekend release now behind us, news has been revealed that Zack Snyder had originally cast Bryan Cranston in the role of Lex Luthor, but then abruptly changed his mind and cast Jesse Eisenberg; who was auditioning for Jimmy Olsen. Several elements in the film don’t really add up, unless you sit down and connect the dots like a conspiracy nut with detailed charts on a wall in some basement. Now, some interesting news comes to us in the form of a deleted scene. The scene in question, entitled "Communion” reveals Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor inside General Zod's ship communicating with some sort of beast that has obvious ties to the Darkseid mythology from the comics. We'll have to wait and see why this was cut and how it will fit into the bigger story moving forward. James Wan Weighs in on Aquaman On to Aquaman now with some quotes from director James Wan who stepped in to a number of interviews at Wonder Con this past weekend. In one particular interview, Wan talks about what he would like to do with his first superhero movie, saying that like most people, we are familiar with Aquaman and that there's something kind of cool about him. The idea of creating a huge world that is on our planet, and under the ocean, is cool to explore. This fires up the imagination on the panel as they discuss and speculate what potential sea monsters and cool creatures we might see. Will such villains a Ocean Master or Black Manta make it in the movie and will sea creatures like the Trench be incorporated into the film? Lego Batman Releases Two Trailers LEGO Batman is finally upon us and to celebrate, Warner Bros. have released not one but two teaser trailers! Directed by Chris McKay, and two teasers focus on Batman chilling in his mansion. The trailers are so funny, the whole panel can not wait to see the film! Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about the movie, Affleck said that Justice League is an “interesting product of two directors, both with unique visions and really strong takes,” while also stating that he’s never had an experience like this making a movie. THR late Friday announced the slate of release dates for Sony’s upcoming line-up of movies. First up their Spider-Man shared universe, which will start with Venom next October, now has a date for its other spinoff Silver & Black. The film will now open on February 8th, 2019, four months after Venom. Sony also confirmed that Anne Hathaway will star in Barbie, moving the film back a few weeks to August 8th, 2018. In addition, Sony and Black Label Media's Sicario 2: Soldado, the follow-up to Denis Villeneuve's 2015 film, will open on June 29th, 2018. BOX OFFICE REPORT BUY OR SELL Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has won a bidding war with Universal Pictures and obtained the rights to Walter Isaacson’s book Leonardo da Vinci; and signing on Leonardo DiCaprio to star. The movie adaptation will see DiCaprio’s Appian Way produce as well, with the story based on thousands of pages from Leonardo Da Vinci’s astonishing notebooks along with new discoveries about his life and work, including the creation of two of his most famous paintings in history: The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. The final Entertainment Weekly report for The Last Jedi dropped Friday afternoon, and this time it was about Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata. The character made her appearance, albeit in only a few short scenes in The Force Awakens, and now it appears she will have even less time on screen in the sequel. It was all wonderful, with things getting super sweaty over the weekend festivities. It was definitely worth the trip to go to the Super Museum, and see the history of Superman over all the years! Is X-23 in the Wolverine 3 / Has the Title Been Revealed? With this past week, photos from the set of Wolverine 3 show Professor X and a bearded Logan running from some unseen enemy, with a teenage girl in tow. With these photos and the speculation that comes with it, news soon after broke about a potential title for the third movie. Fox apparently registered the title Wolverine: Weapon X, though no confirmation has been given. Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut Pirated Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition was allegedly pirated and sat online for a few days before being pulled down by the powers that be. So of course, that led to some early reviews from people who watched the extended cut. Did the extra footage change the film? Spoilers ahead! Donald Glover Cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming Sometimes dreams do come true. Actor Donald Glover, who had campaigned very publicly to be the new Spider-Man when the reboot was announced back in 2011, is now joining the cast in a mysterious role. Now the question is: Will he portray an older Miles Morales, or a friend or foe? James Wan Talks About His Version of Aquaman In an interview from CBR, James Wan recently talked a bit about what's in store for the feature film version of Aquaman. Speaking about the movie, he said he knows that after the audience sees Aquaman for the first time, he will definitely NOT be the butt of superhero jokes. Wan thinks that there's something very exciting about that and that he actually does think there's something kind of fun, as well, to take a character where people don't know what to expect from him and go from there. Wan then spoke about going all "Cameron" style, talking a sequence in Conjuring 2 with water and now, he has to put up with water for a whole movie! In a new interview with Independent UK, Hinds briefly teased the villain’s goal in Justice League. BUY OR SELL Deadline reports that The Walking Dead‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan has signed on to join Dwayne Johnson in the New Line monster movie Rampage. He joins a cast that includes Moonlight‘s Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman and Joe Manganiello. Morgan will play Agent Russell, who works for a covert government division called OGA and rolls with a “serious swagger and attitude.” Lionsgate has released a new trailer for the upcoming All Eyez on Me; the movie based on the life of rapper Tupac Shakur. The film tells the true and “untold” story of Shakur from his early days in New York City to his evolution into the world’s most recognized and influential voices before his untimely death at the age of 25. Bad news for fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger who were hoping to see him in Expendables 4 and, even more so, return to the Predator franchise. Just as it was reported that Sylvester Stallone had exited Expendables 4 over creative differences, Arnold confirmed he would also pass unless Sly was on board. Speaking with EW, Arnold said “There is no Expendables without Sly,” and that he would never do the movie without him. As for The Predator, which has a new version currently filming, and helmed by The Nice Guys’ director Shane Black. Paramount Pictures has released a new featurette for the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight, featuring Michael Bay talking about the process of shooting native IMAX 3D and of course, blowing stuff up. In an exclusive interview with Collider’s own Perri Nemiroff, that appeared in the recent airing of Collider Nightmares, director Guillermo del Toro revealed why he didn’t return to direct Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to the 2013’s Pacific Rim. Lionsgate has released an announcement video for My Little Pony: The Movie. Featuring the voices of Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Michael Peña, Sia, Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba, and Zoe Saldana, with an original song performed by Sia.
