Prakash Javadekar (born 30 January 1951) is and Indian Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician and is the incumbent Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha as a Member of Parliament from Maharashtra in 2008, and re-elected from Madhya Pradesh in 2014.
Following the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2014 Indian General Election, he was appointed Minister State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forests and Climate Change by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is also a Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, and briefly held the portfolio of Information and Broadcasting.
Mr. Javadekar is an official spokesperson of the BJP.
He is married to Dr. Prachee Javadekar and has two sons.
Prakash Javadekar was born in Pune, Maharashtra to Keshav Krishna Javadekar and Ranjani Javadekarr. His father Keshav Krishna Javadekar was a senior leader of Hindu Maha Sabha and even lead its Pune unit as its President. His father was a friend and follower of Veer Savarkar and worked as Joint Editor of Marathi Daily, started by Lokmanya Tilak. His mother is from the Konkan region and was a school teacher.
