With so many fantastic new children’s books hitting shelves every day, it can be easy for some of the timeless titles to be forgotten. Take a moment to rediscover one of my favorites - your kids will love it too.
Title: A Pocket for Corduroy
Author & Illustrator: Don Freeman
Target Age: Preschool - 3 - 5 years
With summer reading in full flight, I thought it would be a great time to revisit one of the classics. There are tons of great stories from decades ago; A Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman is surely on the list. Everyone remembers Corduroy, that cute little bear who goes on all types of excursions. In this particular story, Corduroy takes a trip with his friend and owner, Lisa, to the laundromat.
As Lisa empties her pockets before beginning to wash, Corduroy realizes he has no pockets to empty. From laundry bag to soap flakes to laundry basket, Corduroy survives a full night alone. Luckily, the next morning, he and Lisa are reunited, again.
One of my favorite picture books of all time, A Pocket for Corduroy never seems to lose its flair.
