Ed Lynch (cyclist)

Ed Lynch (born April 29, 1929) is a former American cyclist. He competed in the individual and team road race events at the 1948 Summer Olympics.

Ed Lynch (baseball)

Edward Francis Lynch (born February 25, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. He pitched and batted right-handed, and his pitch selection included a fastball, slider, changeup and slurve.

MLB career

Lynch was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the 1977 Major League Baseball Draft. After three years in their farm system, in which he compiled a 22–27 record and 3.89 earned run average, the Rangers sent him to the New York Mets on September 18, 1979 as part of an earlier deal in which the Mets sent Willie Montañez to the Rangers for two players to be named later. The other player the Rangers sent the Mets was first baseman Mike Jorgensen.

Lynch debuted with the Mets on August 31, 1980 against the San Francisco Giants, and gave up four earned runs in just 1.1 inning out of the bullpen. He won his first major league start on September 13 against the Chicago Cubs, snapping a thirteen-game losing streak for his club. For the season, Lynch was 1–1 with a 5.12 ERA in four starts.

The 2010 special election for Florida's 19th congressional district took place on April 13, 2010, to fill the vacancy caused by Representative Robert Wexler's resignation, effective the evening of January 3, 2010, from the United States House of Representatives. Wexler, who had represented the 19th district since 1997, left Congress to become president of the Center for Middle East Peace & Economic Cooperation.

Governor Charlie Crist on November 4, 2009 set the primary for February 2 and the general election for April 13, 2010 (rescheduled from April 6 to avoid Passover). Democrat Ted Deutch won the Special Election with 62%, with Republican Edward Lynch received 35%. This was the first election since the passage of the Healthcare reform bill. This district leans strongly Democratic with a Cook PVI of D+15.
