A woman remains in a critical condition after being shot in the face with a speargun in Melbourne's south-east.
The 43-year-old woman was taken to The Alfred hospital from a Cornwall Street address in Hallam about 11.40pm on Saturday, police said.
She had suffered critical head injuries, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.
It is understood the spear pierced through the woman's cheek.
A man, 46, was arrested and later charged with intentionally causing serious injury.
He faced an out-of-sessions court hearing on Sunday and was remanded in custody.
The man, from Hallam, will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court again on Wednesday.
