La Dispute is a prose comedy written by Pierre de Marivaux, shown for the first time on October 19, 1744, by the Théâtre-Italien in the Hôtel de Bourgogne. The story involves four orphans (two boys and two girls) that have been raised in isolation, from the world and from each other. An aristocrat releases four human guinea pigs into a sinister Garden of Eden to cause them to consider the question of whether man or woman is more faithful.
One of Marivaux's last pieces, La Dispute was received as a huge failure. It is a funny, erotic and cruel masterpiece.
Adaptations have been created from 1972 and onward in various forms.
For the 2013 adaptation, editor for The New York Times Sylviane Gold wrote: "La Dispute opens with Prince and Hermiane, as a pair of exquisitely bewigged, bejeweled aristocrats, discussing with typical Marivaux finesse a lover’s question, one that would appear to have no answer. Who committed the first infidelity, mankind or womankind? But since we’re in Enlightenment France, there’s an app for that: the Prince tells his lady that when the same debate arose in his father’s court nearly 20 years earlier, a scientific experiment was devised to provide incontrovertible evidence as to who started the war between the sexes.
Grand Rapids is the second-largest city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the largest city in West Michigan. It is located on the Grand River about 30 miles east of Lake Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 188,040. In 2010, the Grand Rapids metropolitan area had a population of 1,005,648, and the combined statistical area of Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland had a population of 1,321,557. Grand Rapids is the county seat of Kent County, Michigan.
A historic furniture-manufacturing center, Grand Rapids is still home to five of the world's leading office furniture companies, and is nicknamed Furniture City. Its more common modern nickname of River City refers to the landmark river for which it was named. The city and surrounding communities are economically diverse, based in the health care, information technology, automotive, aviation, and consumer goods manufacturing industries, among others.
Grand Rapids is the hometown of U.S. President Gerald Ford, who is buried with his wife Betty on the grounds of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in the city.

No Sleep Records is an independent record label based out of Huntington Beach, California. They were founded by Chris Hansen in 2006. They are most noted for releasing albums by Balance and Composure, La Dispute and The Wonder Years. Across No Sleep's development they have been known for offering free music in the form of sampler albums which they have released onto the internet and the label closely associates itself with vegan lifestyle and the revived interest in vinyl record sales.
Chris Hansen, the record label's founder, started at the bottom of the music industry in an attempt to build up experience and knowledge of owning a label. He started at Smartpunk and Fearless Records doing Mail Order.
No Sleep properly released their first album when a friend of Hansen offered to release an already fully funded and complete album on his newly constructed label. The release, the 'Our 'American Cousin ep, which in Hansen's opinion was "a good 90s style indie/emo record". In the first two years of No Sleep existence Hansen worked as an art director at Trustkill, however was laid-off and moved back to California and focused entirely on the label.

Directed and edited by Schuyler Wall Lighting and cinematography by Geoffrey K. Boyd We had La Dispute over to Geoff's brother's house for a house show a few years ago. They left their equipment set up for the night, crashed at my place, and then we went back to the house in the morning to shoot this music video in a couple of hours before they left for their next tour date. It's not bad for the short amount of time spent on the shoot, and I didn't spend too much time on the edit (in hindsight, I wish I had). Still, it just goes to show that you can make something decent with no money and very little time.

(Crows, wipe the blood from the end of your claws.
Said the vulture
Lets gather like storms for the war.
Crows, as the night turns its skin into coal,
Dark as corpses but cluttered with gold.
They will label you thieves, wolves, and whores
but you are nothing less than angels,
cast down and covered in black.)
Ain't this the bloodiest mess in the world? Said the virgin, a torn little girl.
Boy, you went and made a sweet wreck of my soul, and I've already forgiven you.
And blood was running down
Her dress in streams into her hands where she
Was stitching on the flesh had left
In sections on the carpet near a bed that
Never slept while she was sleeping
In her clothes that he had laid with on
The floor with all his fingers crossed
In hoping that that distance
Wouldn't grow.
But how it grew,
And how it hurt,
And how it hallowed every memory had
Never felt was threatened by a thing the world
Could conjure up to kill them, but he let it kill them
What a bunch of fools we lovers are.
And now shes smiling, with her self put back together,
just a shadow of the past before the war.
All sewn together, like a city sick from storms
and sick of waiting for a god to call the floods out of her home.
what a bunch of fools we lovers are
when tempted by the taste of flesh.
"My boy, you are nothing more than a thief and a whore
in a suit of the finest of armor." laughed the vulture.
