The new terminal is open from 1 July 2015. The airport is the Air Koryo HUB, is equipped with 12 check-in counters and three jetways, there is a duty-free store, cosmetic, electronic and book shops, coffee bar, restaurant and a VIP Lounge.

More details are emerging about the group of North Koreans who defected to South Korea last week.
It appears as though all of them are from well-heeled families in Pyongyang.
Connie Kim reports.
The 13 North Koreans that defected to South Korea last week reportedly have links to North Korea's Ryugyong Hotel and are the son and daughters of leading officials within the North's Worker's Party of Korea and other administrative bodies.
Citing sources in Pyongyang, the online newspaper Daily NK reported Tuesday that the North Koreans had been working abroad for years to fund the hotel's construction and the Workers' Party.
The report added that business has been good but started taking a downturn after UN sanctions were imposed on the North last month.
In an attempt to tighten its monitoring of workers abroad,... North Korea's Ministry of State Security has reportedly sent surveillance teams to China.
The North Korean restaurant where the 13 North Koreans worked is located in the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang province.
Once packed with customers, the restaurant is now closed.
The group is reported to have flown to South Korea from a country in Southeast Asia after leaving China.
Beijing confirmed on Monday that the North Koreans departed China on April sixth, a day before they arrived in South Korea.
"After an investigation, we found the 13 North Koreans used valid passports to leave the country normally in the early hours of April 6th."
China's foreign ministry was keen to emphasize that the group left the country legally.
"What needs to be stressed is that these people had valid identity documents and legally came to the country. They were not North Koreans who entered China illegally."
The group's defection route and further information is expected to be released soon as the South Korean government started its own investigation on Monday.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held its first ever beer festival in the capital Pyongyang on Friday drawing more than 800 residents, tourists, and foreign guests.
The opening ceremony began at 19:00 on the pier of the Taedong River, one of Pyongyang's most famous landmarks, with performances, and free beer served for the visitors.
The fried chicken and beer combo remained the favorite of the evening crowd.
The event, which will last for about 20 days, is reportedly held to promote Taedonggang beer, Pyongyang's own brew and the most popular brand of beer in the country.
The beer, named after the Taedong River that runs through the capital is a full-bodied lager a little on the sweet side, with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
"It is great. This is one of the best beers," said a Pyongyang resident.
"This is world class beer. It is great. We have our leadership to thank for being able to drink to our hearts' content today," said another resident.
The festival will continue on the Taedonggang cruise boat every night until late this month.

Pyongyang
Pyongyang (/ˈpjɒŋˈjæŋ/; (Chosŏn'gŭl: 평양; hancha: 平壤), Korean pronunciation: [pʰjʌŋjaŋ], literally: "Flat Land" or "Peaceful Land", approved: P’yŏngyang; several variants) is the capital of North Korea and the largest city in the country. Pyongyang is located on the Taedong River and, according to preliminary results from the 2008 population census, has a population of 3,255,388. The city was split from the South Pyongan province in 1946. It is administered as a directly governed city (chikhalsi, 직할시) on the same level as provincial governments, not a special city (teukbyeolsi, 특별시) as Seoul in South Korea.
Names
"Pyongyang" literally means "Flat Land" in Korean. One of Pyongyang's many historic names is Ryugyong (류경; 柳京), or "capital of willows", as willow trees have always been numerous throughout the city's history; this served as an inspiration for many poems. Even today, the city has numerous willow trees, with many buildings and places having "Ryugyŏng" in their names. The most notable of these is the incomplete Ryugyong Hotel. The city's other historic names include Kisong, Hwangsong, Rakrang, Sŏgyong, Sodo, Hogyong, Changan, and Heijo (during Japanese rule in Korea). During the early 20th century, Pyongyang came to be known among missionaries as being the "Jerusalem of the East", due to its historical status as a stronghold of Christianity, namely Protestantism.

More details are emerging about the group of North Koreans who defected to South Korea last week.
It appears as though all of them are from well-heeled families in Pyongyang.
Connie Kim reports.
The 13 North Koreans that defected to South Korea last week reportedly have links to North Korea's Ryugyong Hotel and are the son and daughters of leading officials within the North's Worker's Party of Korea and other administrative bodies.
Citing sources in Pyongyang, the online newspaper Daily NK reported Tuesday that the North Koreans had been working abroad for years to fund the hotel's construction and the Workers' Party.
The report added that business has been good but started taking a downturn after UN sanctions were imposed on the North last month.
In an attempt to tighten its monitoring of workers abroad,... North Korea's Ministry of State Security has reportedly sent surveillance teams to China.
The North Korean restaurant where the 13 North Koreans worked is located in the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang province.
Once packed with customers, the restaurant is now closed.
The group is reported to have flown to South Korea from a country in Southeast Asia after leaving China.
Beijing confirmed on Monday that the North Koreans departed China on April sixth, a day before they arrived in South Korea.
"After an investigation, we found the 13 North Koreans used valid passports to leave the country normally in the early hours of April 6th."
China's foreign ministry was keen to emphasize that the group left the country legally.
"What needs to be stressed is that these people had valid identity documents and legally came to the country. They were not North Koreans who entered China illegally."
The group's defection route and further information is expected to be released soon as the South Korean government started its own investigation on Monday.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held its first ever beer festival in the capital Pyongyang on Friday drawing more than 800 residents, tourists, and foreign guests.
The opening ceremony began at 19:00 on the pier of the Taedong River, one of Pyongyang's most famous landmarks, with performances, and free beer served for the visitors.
The fried chicken and beer combo remained the favorite of the evening crowd.
The event, which will last for about 20 days, is reportedly held to promote Taedonggang beer, Pyongyang's own brew and the most popular brand of beer in the country.
The beer, named after the Taedong River that runs through the capital is a full-bodied lager a little on the sweet side, with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
"It is great. This is one of the best beers," said a Pyongyang resident.
"This is world class beer. It is great. We have our leadership to thank for being able to drink to our hearts' content today," said another resident.
The festival will continue on the Taedonggang cruise boat every night until late this month.

"Land of Whispers" invites you to visit arguably the most unique and isolated travel destination in the world - not to criticize, but to observe and listen. Aside from usual highlights such as Pyongyang or Arirang, this unique one-man documentary brings you to areas such as Chongjin or Wonson, still virtually unknown to even google or wikipedia. There, I attempt to pierce through the ever-present 'national mythology' and as much as possible, I try to connect with people - such as the waitress mesmerized by tablet computers, or a tour guide cautiously fascinated by modern pop culture.

US vows to protect S Korea & Japan after Pyongyang’s failed missile test
North Korea attempted to launch another intermediate-range ballistic missile on Saturday, according to the Pentagon. Both the US and South Korea condemned the launch of the rocket, which reportedly failed immediately after lift-off. US Strategic Command announced that its monitoring systems detected the launch in northwestern North Korea on Saturday at 12:03pm local time. The rocket was presumed to be a Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missile, and failed immediately after launch, the statement added, while emphasizing that the projectile never posed a threat to the US.
