George Cisar (July 28, 1912 — June 13, 1979) was an American actor who performed in more than one hundred roles in two decades as a character actor in film and television, often in prominent Hollywood productions. He frequently played background parts such as policemen or bartenders.
In 1949, Cisar co-starred with a young Mike Wallace in the short-lived police drama Stand By for Crime. Among Cisar's more frequent roles was from 1960 to 1963 as Sgt. Theodore Mooney in thirty-one episodes of CBS's Dennis the Menace. Oddly, series co-star Gale Gordon took the name "Theodore Mooney" and added the middle initial "J." for his character, Theodore J. Mooney, a tough-minded banker on Lucille Ball's second sitcom, The Lucy Show.
Cisar portrayed character Donald Hollinger's father in That Girl, the Marlo Thomas sitcom which aired on ABC, and Cyrus Tankersley on CBS's The Andy Griffith Show and its sequel Mayberry, R.F.D..
Attack of the Giant Leeches is a low-budget 1959 science fiction film from American International Pictures, directed by Bernard L. Kowalski and produced by Gene Corman. The screenplay was written by Leo Gordon. It was one of a spate of monster movies produced during the 1950s in response to cold war fears; in the film, a character speculates that the leeches have been mutated to giant size by atomic radiation from nearby Cape Canaveral. The film has also been released as Attack of the Blood Leeches, Demons of the Swamp, She Demons of the Swamp, and The Giant Leeches. Kings of Horror presents: Attack of the Giant Leeches While poaching in the Florida Everglades, Lem Sawyer [George Cisar] fires five shots into a giant leech-like creature, but none of the old boys lolling around in Dave Walker's [Bruno VeSota] General Store will buy that it was anything other than one too many swigs on Lem's jug of moonshine. Besides, there is Dave's slutty she-cat of a wife, Liz [Yvette Vickers], running around in various shades of undress to occupy their conversation.
