(continued) Part 5 from a series of short videos taken from a recent panel discussion which also included Eddie Schwartz, Jean-Robert Bisaillon, Jane McGarrigle, Michael McCarty and Jennifer Brown ABOUT THE PANELISTS Eddie Schwartz Eddie Schwartz is a Toronto singer/songwriter/producer currently residing in Nashville. Best known for writing such classic hit songs as "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" recorded by Pat Benetar, "Don't Shed A Tear" by Paul Carrack, "The Doctor" by the Doobie Brothers and "When There's Time For Love" by Lawrence Gowan, Eddie has over two hundred songs recorded by artists including Joe Cocker, Carly Simon, Robert Palmer, Donna Summer, Rita Coolidge, Rascal Flatts and Amy Sky. His worldwide sales are currently in excess of 65 million recordings. Eddie has won numerous music industry awards including multiple Junos, BMI awards and SOCAN awards, including SOCAN's Lifetime Achievement award. In addition, he has served for many years on a number of boards including the Songwriters Association of Canada, SOCAN, CARAS and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and is a graduate of the prestigious Leadership Music program in Nashville. Eddie continues to advocate for music creators in Canada and around the world. In late 2012 Eddie was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. Jean-Robert Bisaillon Jean-Robert Bisaillon is the founder and president of iconoclaste musique inc. an artist management and Web marketing & design company. He was an active writer and composer in the groups French B and Disappointed A Few People. He's a board member of SOCAN and the Songwriters Association of Canada. He has more recently published « Le guide Internet des auteurs et compositeurs » for SPACQ, the book introduces artists to the process of using the Web for their A2F music distribution and promotion. He is currently completing a masters degree on the social impact of music metadata, crowdsourcing and open data exchange protocols at INRS in Montreal. Jane McGarrigle Jane McGarrigle is the elder sister of Kate and Anna McGarrigle, and has written and performed several songs with the duo, including producing their album Love Over and Over. Jane served as her sisters' music manager for a time, and then in the 1990s managed the band Three O'Clock Train. She has also worked in music management with Pierre Marchand, Sarah McLachlan, Daniel Lanois, and The Neville Brothers. In addition she previously served on the board of the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada, as chair of the Communications Committee. Jennifer Brown Jennifer Brown is responsible for the collection of royalties for the public performance of music in Canada based on tariffs set by the Copyright Board of Canada. She manages relationships with existing media, concert, and general licensees and develops relationships with new ones. With over 15 years of experience at SOCAN, Jennifer has held a number of progressive positions within the Membership, Business Change, and Licensing departments. Some highlights from Jennifer's career to date include establishing the SOCAN Information Centre, leading the development of industry-leading e-commerce applications, and achieving stellar operational results within Licensing. Michael McCarty Michael McCarty is an internationally experienced senior music publishing executive with expertise in managing a creative driven business. He understands the dynamics of IP, copyrights and money, and is very positive about the opportunity landscape for copyrights. Throughout his career McCarty has been focused on the creative aspects of the business, developing young talent by providing financial investment, and creative development to artists and songwriters. McCarty is a member of the Board of Directors of SOCAN; the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA); past director and President of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA) and a founding director of the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame. McCarty has been a leader in advocating for a better copyright environment, and has overseen copyright advocacy programs involving the media and direct government lobbying.
