Bayou Bienvenue is a 12.1-mile-long (19.5 km)bayou in southeastern Louisiana. It runs along the political border between Orleans Parish and St. Bernard Parish to the east of New Orleans.
The bayou crosses the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, before ending in Lake Borgne, a shallow estuarine lake branching from the Mississippi Sound.
A short distance from the Lake end of Bayou Bienvenue, the remains of Battery Bienvenue still guard the eastern approach to the city. This fortification was built shortly after 1815's Battle of New Orleans to prevent any future invasion of the city by way of the Lake and Bayou.
A bayou (/ˈbaɪ.oʊ/ or /ˈbaɪjuː/) is a Franco-English term used in the United States for a body of water typically found in a flat, low-lying area, and can refer either to an extremely slow-moving stream or river (often with a poorly defined shoreline), or to a marshy lake or wetland. The name "bayou" can also refer to a creek whose current reverses daily due to tides and which contains brackish water highly conducive to fish life and plankton. Bayous are commonly found in the Gulf Coast region of the southern United States, notably the Mississippi River Delta, with the states of Louisiana and Texas being famous for them. A bayou is frequently an anabranch or minor braid of a braided channel that is moving much more slowly than the mainstem, often becoming boggy and stagnant. Though fauna varies by region, many bayous are home to crawfish, certain species of shrimp, other shellfish, catfish, frogs, toads, American alligators, American crocodiles, herons, turtles, spoonbills, snakes, leeches and myriad other species.

What turned out to be a almost messed up day because I forgot to charge the battery for the trolling motor turned out ok. I have not fished that area in about a year so I used a GPS fishing app on my phone to find a few spots I knew of......the rest is video. Oh and I don't know if the fish call worked BUT...I did see a few flashes from fish coming up to the top near the call. Also big thanks to my brother Paul Higgins(who is fishing with me) for the new track for my intro. Intro music, Way down South by HIGGINZ Produced by Sinima
Went fishing with Chris at Bayou Bienvenue, outside the small and big locks. This was the coldest I have ever been out fishing. We got to the first spot before the sun went up and I ended up catching a nice redfish right out of the gate. We also caught speckled trout and white trout. I think I might have caught a white trout before but I am not sure. This is my first white trout on record. We caught most of our fish before 9am but went on fishing until after noon. One of the most interesting parts about going fishing with Chris is to hear about the history of the places we go to from someone who has been going to them for his entire life. It's fun to hear not only about the area's past, but also about the quirks of growing up in his area.

Quick edit of a recent trip where I met up with Cody to fish his new Lt25. We went out to Bayou Bienvenue to catch a few speckled trout and sight fish for reds.We weren't able to sight fish because of the overcast day but we still ended up with a solid box bass and trout.
This popular spot near Bayou Bienvenue is loaded with speckled trout right now. Here's how to get in on the action.
Capt. Kris Robert has been waylaying the speckled trout and redfish near Bayou Bienvenue ever since winter arrived early in South Louisiana.
"The Cypress Graveyard" describes the degradation of the cypress swamp on the outskirts of the Lower 9th Ward, due to the impacts of the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet navigation project, and current student-led efforts to restore the area. The blend of community voices, academic leaders, and student workers created a powerful short detailing what has happened, and a hopeful vision of what could be. Went fishing with Jeffery Oliver FishxScale and his bro. You can subscribe to him here: https://www.youtube.com/user/12jpoliver We launched at Bayou Bienvenue, Louisiana and found a Rat's Nest!!! We went fishing all around the bayou including reaching Lake Borgne. I couldn't get a bite to save my life. After hours of failure, I dropped some shrimp on some rocky point and started catching rat redfish after rat redfish. None of them were keepers, but were fun to fight nonetheless. Shot on GoPro Hero 4 Black or iPhone 6S or both.
