John Joseph "Jack" Haley (August 10, 1898 – June 6, 1979) was an American vaudevillian, stage, radio, and film actor, light comedian, singer and dancer best known for his portrayal of the Tin Man in the classic 1939 MGM film The Wizard of Oz.
Haley was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Canadian-born parents John Joseph Haley Sr. and Ellen Curley Haley. His father was a sailor by trade and died in a ship wreck off the coast of Nova Scotia on February 1, 1899 when Jack was only six months old. He had one older brother, Bill, who died of pneumonia in 1915 at the age of 20 after contracting tuberculosis.
Haley headlined in vaudeville as a song-and-dance comedian. One of his closest friends was Fred Allen, who would frequently mention "Mr. Jacob Haley of Newton Highlands, Massachusetts" on the air. In the early 1930s, Haley starred in comedy shorts for Vitaphone in Brooklyn, New York. His wide-eyed, good-natured expression gained him supporting roles in musical feature films, including Poor Little Rich Girl with Shirley Temple, Higher and Higher with Frank Sinatra and the Irving Berlin musical Alexander's Ragtime Band. Both Poor Little Rich Girl and Alexander's Ragtime Band were released by Twentieth Century-Fox. Haley was under contract to them and appeared in the Fox films Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and Pigskin Parade, marking his first appearance with Judy Garland.
Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó (20 October 1882 – 16 August 1956), better known as Bela Lugosi, was a Hungarian-American actor, famous for portraying Count Dracula in the original 1931 film and for his roles in various other horror films.
He had been playing small parts on the stage in his native Hungary before making his first film in 1917, but had to leave the country after the failed Hungarian Communist Revolution of 1919. He had roles in several films in Weimar Germany before arriving in the United States as a seaman on a merchant ship.
In 1927, he appeared as Count Dracula in a Broadway adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel. He later appeared in the classic 1931 film Dracula by Universal Pictures. Through the 1930s, he occupied an important niche in popular horror films, with their East European setting, but his Hungarian accent limited his repertoire, and he tried unsuccessfully to avoid typecasting.
Meanwhile, he was often paired with Boris Karloff, who was able to demand top billing. To his frustration, Lugosi was increasingly restricted to minor parts, kept employed by the studio principally for the sake of his name on the posters. Among his pairings with Karloff, only in The Black Cat (1934), The Raven (1935), and Son of Frankenstein (1939) did he perform major roles again, and, even in The Raven, Karloff received top billing despite Lugosi performing the lead role. By this time, Lugosi had been receiving regular medication for sciatic neuritis, and he became addicted to morphine and methadone. This drug dependence was noted by producers, and the offers eventually dwindled down to a few parts in Ed Wood's low-budget movies, most notably Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Jack Haley gets subbed on for the last two minutes and really wants the ball. Things to watch for: Rodman getting his dear friend a look just under the basket and Haley missing it, Haley excessively asking for the ball in the paint during the last 10-5 seconds of the game, Chris Whitney making the buzzer beater three at the end of the game.
Phyllis Brooks and Jack Haley sing this lovely song in Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938).

The plot of this movie has a forgetful chess editor going off to cover a grape festival. His uncle, who runs the paper, hopes this will turn him into a normal reporter (When he covered the funeral of the mayor he failed to mention a woman's suicide over the grave, nor does he mention the riot that occurred at the chess match he was covering when he was called away for the grape festival assignment.) In typical fashion he takes the wrong bus to the wrong place and ends up mixed up in with a gang of wanted killers. Also starring Ann Savage, Barton MacLane and Veda Ann Borg.

"Bible Storyland" follows art dealer Harvey Jordan on his obsessive quest to uncover the mysteries of Bible Storyland, an ill-fated theme park designed by Disney creatives in 1960's Southern California. Complete with dream sequences, animation and, of course, a curse, this fun and quirky film explores the many facets of the theme park and its effects on Harvey and his family. Originally intended to open in 1961 in Cucamonga, CA, Bible Storyland was championed by former Disneyland Vice President Nat Winecoff and investors Jack Haley (the Tin Man from "The Wizard of Oz") and Donald Duncan (the founder of Duncan Yo-Yo's). The theme park blended the imagination of Disney artist Bruce Bushman with Bible stories and other historical themes from biblical times. Featuring rides to Heaven and Hell...

Although I have uploaded Jack Haley's only four points for the 72-10 Bulls, I feel a bit bad for also having put "Jack Haley Desperately Wants to Score" out there. Thus I felt the need to do a proper video for a performance of his, without any underlying subtext. This here game (his fourth regular season appearance in the league) is evidence of how and why Jack Haley earned staying power. He ran the court like a man possessed (notice how he does three full-court sprints in a row and basically out-runs the other four Bulls each of those times), he contributed with 100% effort on each play, whether it is fighting for rebounding position (which pissed off Charles Barkley) or getting to an open spot, and he was enthusiastic about any minutes he received. November 16, 1988. R.I.P.
