The true story of Aristodemus the coward,survivor of the 300 spartans.

Sparta has two kings. They were drawn from two royal families: the Agiads and the Eurypontids. According to legend, Eurysthenes and Prokles were the twin sons of Aristodemus, a descendent of Herakles. These were the first two kings of Sparta. The dual kingship was one of the most ancient traditions in Sparta. Sparta was very militaristic. This meant that the kings had to assert strong generalship. Kingship was hereditary in Sparta. Aristotle refers to the Spartan kings as “hereditary generals”. There was no retirement age for Spartan kings. The kings often led the troops and waged war even as elderly men. In early times both kings led the army into war but at some point this policy was changed. Herodotus (V, 75) tells us that in the time of Kleomenes and Demaratus it was decided that only one king would go to war, the other would stay in Sparta. Two ephors attended the king in battle.
Their function was to advice the king but also to check his power.
Each month the kings and ephors exchanged oaths. The ehpors swore to maintain the kingship and the kings swore to rule according to the laws. A Spartan king was expected to fulfil many roles: He was chief priest. Commander in chief of the army. Lawgiver. He also performed many social duties. King Leonidas of Sparta is well known as the leader in the battle of Theromopylae.
This was a very famous battle and movies such as “300” have been made about it. He and 300 Spartan soldiers held off the Persian army as it tried to invade. The Persian army was much larger but the Spartans managed to hold them off for a long time.
King Leonidas was about 60 years old at the time of the battle. He died during the battle. An oracle had predicted that Sparta could win but a King would die.

May mắn thay, vẫn còn đó những nhân chứng sống đủ lâu để có thể truyền lại cho hậu thế câu chuyện mà người ra đi trước còn chưa kịp kể.
1. Aristodemus - người Sparta cuối cùng sau trận chiến Thermopylae
Thermopylae là một trận chiến nổi tiếng trong lịch sử, diễn ra giữa quân đội Hy Lạp với đế chế Ba Tư dưới sự dẫn dắt của Xerxes Đại đế vào năm 480 TCN. Trận chiến kéo dài 3 ngày và kết cục phần thắng thuộc về quân đội Ba Tư hùng mạnh.
Người ta thống kê, 298 trong số 300 chiến binh Sparta vĩ đại đã ra trận và hi sinh ngay tại chỗ. Chỉ duy nhất có 2 chiến binh không góp mặt tại chiến trường lúc ấy là Aristodemus và Eurytus.
Cả hai đã được cho phép nghỉ ngơi do nhiễm trùng mắt từ trước đó. Thế nhưng, bất chấp thể trạng không cho phép, Eurytus vẫn lao đến chiến đấu khi biết tin các đồng đội của mình hi sinh và quân Sparta đang lâm vào thế nguy hiểm.

In Greek mythology, Aristodemus (Ancient Greek: Ἀριστόδημος) was an Heracleidae, son of Aristomachus and brother of Cresphontes and Temenus. He was a great-great-grandson of Heracles and helped lead the fifth and final attack on Mycenae in the Peloponnesus.
Aristodemus and his brothers complained to the Oracle that its instructions had proved fatal to those who had followed them (the Oracle had told Hyllas to attack through the narrow passage when the third fruit was ripe). They received the answer that by the "third fruit" the "third generation" was meant, and that the "narrow passage" was not the isthmus of Corinth, but the straits of Rhium. They accordingly built a fleet at Naupactus, but before they set sail, Aristodemus was struck by lightning (or shot by Apollo) and the fleet destroyed, because one of the Heraclidae had slain an Acarnanian soothsayer.
His brothers were later able to conquer the Peloponessus (see Heracleidae).
By his wife Argia, daughter of King Autesion of Thebes, he was the father of twin Kings Eurysthenes and Procles, the ancestors of the two royal houses of Sparta.

A Spartan is a person from the Greek city Sparta or the ancient Greek city-state of the same name. In the latter context, the term "Spartan" in its most technical sense refers to a member of the Spartiate caste and under some usages also encompasses the class of mothakes, residents of Sparta who were free but did not enjoy full political rights.
The proper noun "Spartan" can also refer to a member of one of the numerous athletic teams (see below) named after the soldiers of ancient Sparta, especially its renowned hoplite infantry. The adjective "spartan" (see Wiktionary) refers to the frugal and austere nature of the Spartans.

Điểm danh những nhân chứng cuối cùng được góp mặt trong những sự kiện lịch sử nổi tiếng trên thế giới.
Lịch sử thế giới biến đổi không ngừng theo từng giây từng phút. Mỗi sự kiện diễn ra lại có những ảnh hưởng nhất định tới tiến trình phát triển của nhân loại. Vì vậy, con người đã không ngừng ghi chép lịch sử nhằm rút ra những kinh nghiệm từ thế hệ đi trước, tránh lặp lại những sai lầm trong tương lai.
Tuy nhiên, không phải sự kiện lịch sử nào cũng được ghi lại một cách đầy đủ bởi thời gian trôi qua đã mang đi bao nhiêu nhân chứng sống, những người trực tiếp góp mặt trong các sự kiện ấy.
May mắn thay, vẫn còn đó những nhân chứng sống đủ lâu để có thể truyền lại cho hậu thế câu chuyện mà người ra đi trước còn chưa kịp kể.
1. Aristodemus - người Sparta cuối cùng sau trận chiến Thermopylae
Thermopylae là một trận chiến nổi tiếng trong lịch sử, diễn ra giữa quân đội Hy Lạp với đế chế Ba Tư dưới sự dẫn dắt của Xerxes Đại đế vào năm 480 TCN. Trận chiến kéo dài 3 ngày và kết cục phần thắng thuộc về quân đội Ba Tư hùng mạnh.
Người ta thống kê, 298 trong số 300 chiến binh Sparta vĩ đại đã ra trận và hi sinh ngay tại chỗ. Chỉ duy nhất có 2 chiến binh không góp mặt tại chiến trường lúc ấy là Aristodemus và Eurytus.
Cả hai đã được cho phép nghỉ ngơi do nhiễm trùng mắt từ trước đó. Thế nhưng, bất chấp thể trạng không cho phép, Eurytus vẫn lao đến chiến đấu khi biết tin các đồng đội của mình hi sinh và quân Sparta đang lâm vào thế nguy hiểm.
Trong khi đó Aristodemus ở lại phía sau và chạy trốn về quê nhà. Ông trở thành người Sparta cuối cùng sống sót sau trận đại chiến và cũng là kẻ bị cả dân tộc ghét bỏ vì sự hèn nhát của bản thân.
Hình phạt mà Aristodemus phải nhận, đó là không được phép tự sát và phải sống cùng sự xấu hổ cho tới cuối đời.
2. Daniel F. Bakeman - nhân chứng cuối cùng của Cách mạng Mỹ
Cách mạng Mỹ (1775 - 1783) là cuộc chiến giành độc lập của 13 thuộc địa ở Bắc Mỹ chống lại đế quốc Anh. Cách mạng kết thúc thắng lợi với việc thực dân Anh phải ký hiệp định Paris rút quân khỏi Bắc Mỹ và 13 thuộc địa đã được giải phóng.
Daniel F. Bakeman (1759-1869) chính là thành viên sống lâu nhất từng tham gia cách mạng. Ông đăng ký nhập ngũ khi mới chỉ là một chàng trai trong tuổi vị thành niên và sống cho tới năm 109 tuổi.
Theo nhiều tài liệu, Bakeman cũng chính là người sở hữu cuộc hôn nhân dài 91 năm 12 ngày. Nếu thông tin này được giới nghiên cứu lịch sử xác nhận, Daniel F. Bakeman sẽ nắm giữ thêm một kỷ lục mới, đó là người có cuộc hôn nhân lâu dài nhất trong lịch sử nhân loại.
3. Nicholas Savin - người lính nổi danh sau Cách mạng Pháp
Cách mạng Pháp (1792 - 1802) là một trong những mốc son chói lọi trong lịch sử thế giới. Diễn ra vào cuối thế kỷ XVIII, đây là cuộc cách mạng quan trọng giúp người dân Pháp thời bấy giờ thoát khỏi cảnh lầm than khi vua Louis cùng các hoàng thân quốc thích ăn chơi sa đọa, và đồng thời đưa tên tuổi của Napoleon Bonaparte lên một tầm cao mới.
