Blake Mills (born September 21, 1986) is an American songwriter, guitarist, producer, and composer based in California.
Mills was born in Santa Monica, California, United States, and grew up in Malibu, where he attended Malibu High School with Taylor Goldsmith. Mills and Goldsmith began their musical careers in a band they co-founded called Simon Dawes. Simon Dawes released its debut EP What No One Hears in 2005, and its first LP Carnivore in September 2006 via Record Collection. After the band broke up in 2007, Goldsmith and his younger brother, Griffin, formed the band Dawes with Simon Dawes bassist, Wylie Gelber, and Mills went on to serve as a touring guitarist for Jenny Lewis. He went on to tour with Band of Horses,Cass McCombs,Julian Casablancas and Lucinda Williams. As a session musician, Mills has collaborated with Conor Oberst, Kid Rock,Weezer, The Avett Brothers, Paulo Nutini,Norah Jones, Carlene Carter, Jesca Hoop, Dixie Chicks, Zucchero, Pink, Lana Del Rey, Dangermouse and more.
Mills is the plural form of mill, but may also refer to:
Blake is a surname or a given name which originated from Old English. Its derivation is uncertain; it could come from "blac", a nickname for someone who had dark hair or skin, or from "blaac", a nickname for someone with pale hair or skin. Another theory is that it is a corruption of "Ap Lake", meaning "Son of Lake".
Blake was the name of one of the 14 Tribes of Galway in Ireland. These Blakes were descendants of Richard Caddell, alias Blake, who was involved in the Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169. As such a long present foreign name it became known as de Bláca in Irish.
The origins of the name Blake are also considered to be Old Norse, first appearing in Yorkshire, England, possibly derived from the word Blaker, referring to a village and a former municipality of Akershus county, Norway (east of Oslo).
Blake often refers to the British poet, painter and printmaker William Blake (1757–1827) or to the contemporary figurative artist Blake.
John Roger Stephens (born December 28, 1978), better known by his stage name John Legend, is an American singer, songwriter and actor. He has won nine Grammy Awards, one Golden Globe, and one Academy Award. In 2007, Legend received the Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Prior to the release of Legend's debut album, his career gained momentum through a series of successful collaborations with multiple established artists. He sang in Magnetic Man's "Getting Nowhere," Kanye West's "All of the Lights", on Slum Village's "Selfish", and Dilated Peoples' "This Way". Other artists included Jay Z's "Encore", and he sang backing vocals on Alicia Keys' 2003 song "You Don't Know My Name", the Kanye West remix of Britney Spears' "Me Against the Music", and Fort Minor's "High Road". Legend played piano on Lauryn Hill's "Everything Is Everything". He has gained chart topping hits from his solo work as well, including the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, "All of Me". He won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2015 for writing the song "Glory" from the film Selma.
Guitar showmanship involves gimmicks, jumps, or other stunts with a guitar. Some examples of guitar showmanship would become trademarks of musicians such as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ace Frehley, and Angus Young.
Blues musicians such as Charley Patton would use stunts such as playing the guitar behind their back, and these showbiz stunts were further developed by the touring R&B performers.
Jimi Hendrix, who spent his early career touring with R&B show bands, used some of these gimmicks in his rock sets, such as playing his guitar behind his back, in between his legs, and playing it with his teeth. Other guitarists such as Joe Satriani and Zakk Wylde employ these techniques and Steve Vai has played with his tongue on several occasions. Buddy Guy has also tossed his guitar up in the air and caught it on exactly the same chord he was previously fretting. Stevie Ray Vaughan would also play the guitar behind his head, and behind his back.

Songwriter Blake Mills might not be comfortable with being called a “guitar wizard” but that doesn’t stop Marc from unapologetically slapping that title on him. Blake tells Marc how the sight of Kurt Cobain with a guitar led him down the path to becoming a solo recording artist, an accomplished producer, and an accompanist for a plethora of fellow musicians.

Blake Mills brought out Fiona Apple as a surprise guest at his show at the Columbia City Theatre in Seattle, WA on September 23, 2014. As if Blake needed to bring treats. I was pretty caught up in the rest of the show and only managed to think about pulling out my phone a couple times, so I apologize for the partial-ness of the video.

This was recorded Sept 20, 2014 at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley. While he is always incredible, Blake was having one of 'those' nights where it seemed like he was being channeled from somewhere else. The solo he plays here is incredible.

The original Tresor was in many ways the quintessential Berlin club: located in an unrenovated vault beneath a bombed out department store, it opened its doors amidst the general confusion and ecstasy that swept across the city when the wall fell. Its low ceilings, industrial decor and generally unhinged atmosphere created an unprecedented platform not only for techno in Berlin, but also for the scene taking shape across the Atlantic in Detroit. It quickly became a second home for artists like Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills and Blake Baxter, as well as countless German DJs. Directed by Tilmann Künzel, SubBerlin traces the club's history from its beginning in the early '90s to the closure of its original location in 2005. The older I am, the wiser I'm not
And I felt ashamed of how angry I got
I know I was not getting my message across
I know you can't stand it when that's how I talk
When I summon a duel or when I brandish a thought
I was wrong to turn honesty against you
And sure, some of them could use a good talk
But babe, don't tell all our friends about me
Please, baby, don't tell our friends about me
I could sleep on the couch if you want me to
Or I can be a good dog and just sit with you
Do whatever it is that you ask me to do
'Til you forgive me and I forgive you
Yeah, I know you got the beating but I caught a feeling
Frankly, I don't know what else I can confess to you
Lovers may quarrel and spar sometimes,
But babe, don't tell all our friends about me
Please, baby, don't tell our friends about me
I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
But please, baby, don't tell all our friends about me
You said you just needed some time to adjust
It's been 48 hours and 3 weeks and 2 months
Hummingbirds hum and workerbees buzz
You put too much confidence in the people you trust
All the enemies and friends, they'll all tend to judge
And I'll write songs that'll help me deal with issues,
And sure, some people may hear too much
But babe, they don't tell all our friends about us
You know it makes them talk too much
So please, baby, don't tell our friends about me
(All your friends aren't my friends anymore)
Please, baby, don't tell our friends about me
Yes, I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
I know I f****d up, I know I f****d up,
But please, baby, don't tell all our friends about me
