A sound synthesizer (usually abbreviated as "synthesizer" or "synth", also spelled "synthesiser") is an electronic musical instrument that generates electric signals that are converted to sound through instrument amplifiers and loudspeakers or headphones. Synthesizers may either imitate the still existing sounds (instruments, vocal, natural sound, etc.), or generate new electronic timbres not existing before. They are often played with a musical keyboard, but they can be controlled via a variety of other input devices, including music sequencers, instrument controllers, fingerboards, guitar synthesizers, wind controllers, and electronic drums. Synthesizers without built-in controllers are often called sound modules, and are controlled via MIDI or CV/Gate using a controller device.
Synthesizers use various methods to generate signal. Among the most popular waveform synthesis techniques are subtractive synthesis, additive synthesis, wavetable synthesis, frequency modulation synthesis, phase distortion synthesis, physical modeling synthesis and sample-based synthesis. Other less common synthesis types (see #Types of synthesis) include subharmonic synthesis, a form of additive synthesis via subharmonics (used by mixture trautonium), and granular synthesis, sample-based synthesis based on grains of sound, generally resulting in soundscapes or clouds.
Bradley Glenn "Butch" Walker (born November 14, 1969) is an American recording artist, songwriter, and record producer. He was the lead guitarist for the metal band SouthGang from the late 80s to early 90s as well as the lead vocalist and guitarist for rock band Marvelous 3 from 1997 until 2001.
Walker grew up in Cartersville, Georgia, working as a guitarist and performer in several rock bands in the 1980s, including Badd Boyz and Byte the Bullet. In 1988, he took Byte the Bullet to Los Angeles and they were signed to Virgin Records within the year. The band then changed their name to SouthGang and released two albums, Tainted Angel in 1991 and Group Therapy in 1992. SouthGang was one of the first bands to tour China in the early 1990s. Southgang eventually disbanded after Virgin modified their contract and tried to send them in the wrong direction. Walker and the rest of the SouthGang members continue to remain on good terms.

Plot: An energy-filled performance from legendary rock trio Rush, recorded live at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Canada on September 21, 1984. Seventy minutes long, the entire performance is not included. One unfortunate omission is the removal of the signature drum solo. Otherwise, a charged performance and a must-have for Rush fans.

Plot: Thanksgiving, 1976, San Francisco's Winterland: the Band performs its last concert after 16 years on the road. Some numbers they do alone, some songs include guest artists from Ronnie Hawkins (their first boss, when they were the Hawks) to Bob Dylan (their last, when as his backup and as a solo group, they came into their own). Scorsese's camera explores the interactions onstage in the making of music. Offstage, he interviews the Band's five members, focusing on the nature of life on the road. The friendships, the harmonies, the hijinks, and the wear and tear add up to a last waltz.

With the blessing of 'Dazed' director Richard Linklater, the two teamed up with Shane Valdes (Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco) for what can only be described as an epic night out. Watch the Vevo premiere here: http://youtu.be/94b3gMZGorc "When it comes to classic characters, Matthew McConaughey's "Wooderson" took the cake... and the high school girls with him," says Walker. McConaughey promised VH1 in an interview, "If you love 'Dazed' and you loved Wooderson, you'll see this and you'll probably get the tickle box ...
Meet The Collidoscope, a prototype double granular synthesiser by researchers Fiore Martin & Ben Bengler. More instruments and gear on http://www.doctormix.com/blog/ This hybrid keyboard is a combination between a sampler and a supercollider synth engine, designed to be played by two performers at the same time.

Moog Music Inc. is proud to present Dr. Joseph Akins' five part series on the fundamentals of synthesizer programming. Dr. Akins is an associate professor at Middle Tennessee State University and strives to teach his students a complete understanding of synthesizers and computers as tools for modern music production. In this five part series Dr. Akins uses a Voyager to teach the process through which a synthesizer's sound is generated and the techniques needed to program your own sounds and sonic experiments. In part one of this five part series Dr. Akins gives a brief history of synthesizers, goes over basic synthesizer theory, and overviews basic signal flow. See the whole series here: http://www.moogmusic.com/legacy/fundamentals-synthesizer-programming
This documentary is a true asset to mankind. Robert Moog was a great man. One of my heros, and to me he is an absolute legend. This documentary goes through the times, places and artists when the synthesizer was invented, and what took place, also little interesting things from Moog, such as he said he could "feel" what's going on inside electronic equipment(or something along those lines). Of course covers the man who revolutionized the synthesizer, who is a beautiful person IMHO. You can feel it in his voice alone (I can anyway) :) I am posting this video under fair use for education and review purposes and not profiting from it in any way. I feel the value of historical review, awareness of this man's wonderful accomplishments, and education of who was behind the synthesizer outwe...
A collection of the top 10 music synthesizers, as per my opinion, both of the analog and digital varieties. Note that this only applies to actual synthesizers, not to drum machines, sequencers, vocoders, or the like. There are countless other worthy synths, but they are simply too numerous to list here. However, I will give the following ten honourable mention: Fairlight CMI Korg M1 E-mu Emulator PPG Wave 2 ARP Odyssey Oberheim OB-Xa Elka Synthex Alesis Andromeda Roland Juno-106 Korg MS-20

To the suprise of many, methods of sound synthesis have not changed for a very long time, dating back to the early 1900's. I hope this video helps you to better understand the basic functionality of the parts of a synth. Please rate this video and leave your opinions in the comment section below!
