Sierra Madre del Sur

The Sierra Madre del Sur is a mountain range in southern Mexico, extending 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) from southern Michoacán east through Guerrero, to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in eastern Oaxaca.

Geography

The Sierra Madre del Sur joins with the Eje Volcánico Transversal (Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt) of central Mexico in northern Oaxaca, but is separated from this range further west by the valley of the Río Balsas and its tributary the Río Tepalcatepec.

The mountains' highest point is 3,703 metres (12,149 ft), located at 17°33′N 100°18′W / 17.550°N 100.300°W / 17.550; -100.300 in central Guerrero, and just one major highway crosses the range between Acapulco and Mexico City.

Although separated from the main part of the Sierra Madre del Sur by the deep canyon of the lower Río Balsas, the mountains of southern Michoacán around Coalcomán are usually considered part of the Sierra Madre del Sur.

Maddie & Tae

Maddie & Tae is an American female country music duo composed of Madison Marlow and Taylor Dye, both of whom are singers, songwriters, and guitarists. The duo is signed to Dot Records. Their debut album, Start Here, was released on August 28, 2015 and includes the singles "Girl in a Country Song", "Fly", and "Shut Up and Fish".

Career

In 2010, Maddie and Tae were both going to the same vocal coach and met at a showcase in Dallas. Dallas was exactly between both of their hometowns. Maddie is from Sugarland, Texas and Tae is from Ada, Oklahoma. They hit it off as friends initially. Within the year, the duo was going back and forth to Nashville every weekend while still going to school. They first performed under the name "Sweet Aliana". After finishing high school, the duo moved to Nashville, to begin their musical career. In 2014, Big Machine revived the Dot Records name for a new imprint. Maddie & Tae were confirmed as the first signees of the label in June 2014.

They wrote their debut single, "Girl in a Country Song", with Scherz, who co-produced it with Dann Huff. The song is a criticism of the contemporary bro-country trend. "Girl in a Country Song" debuted at number 58 on the Country Airplay chart dated for the week ending July 19, 2014. After 23 weeks, it reached number 1 for the chart dated December 20, 2014, becoming the first debut single by a female duo to reach number one since The Wreckers did it in 2006 with "Leave the Pieces", and only the second in history. Maddie and Tae released their self-titled EP on November 4, 2014. It featured "Girl in a Country Song" as well as 3 new tracks: "Sierra", "Fly", and "Your Side of Town". Maddie and Tae co-wrote all 4 tracks.

Alex & Sierra

Alex & Sierra is an American duo consisting of Alex Kinsey (born May 21, 1991) and Sierra Deaton (born February 11, 1991), who won the third and final season of The X Factor USA. The duo are also dating. They were mentored by Simon Cowell and became the first and only group to win the American version of the show.

Their debut album It's About Us was released on October 7, 2014, on Columbia Records.

Career

2013: The X Factor

Alex & Sierra auditioned in New Orleans, Louisiana, making it to the next round after wowing the judges with a sultry version of Britney Spears' "Toxic". They continued on to the top 40 and received Simon Cowell as their mentor. For the Four Chair Challenge, Alex & Sierra took on the John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John classic "You're The One That I Want" from the 1978 musical film Grease. The judges praised the duo for putting their own twist on the song. Kelly and Paulina felt the performance was "nice" and said they had "sexiness" to them, while Demi Lovato told them they were one of her favorite acts but questioned the future and their relationship. Simon Cowell was annoyed and disagreed, in support of Alex & Sierra as a couple. Despite this controversy, the duo made it through to the live shows. For the first live show, Alex and Sierra earned a spot in the top 12 after performing a stripped-down version of the Robin Thicke hit "Blurred Lines". Kelly Rowland wished it had been a bit sexier and thought it got corny at times, something Simon Cowell disagreed with, praising Alex & Sierra's performance, calling it "original" and "unique". For Motown Night, they took on "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye. Paulina felt it was "natural," while Demi said it felt "organic" as well as very "hot" and "sexy". On the re-vote show, which happened due to a graphics error that nullified the votes, Alex & Sierra sang "Give Me Love" by Ed Sheeran. Simon said, "That was immaculate, it was ragged and raw."
