Debra Lynn Messing (born August 15, 1968) is an American actress. She is known for her many television roles, most notably her eight-year run playing Grace Adler on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace.
Following her graduation from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Messing had short-lived tenures on the Fox sitcom Ned & Stacey (1995-1997) and the ABC sci-fi Prey (1998). She rose to prominence in her role as interior designer Grace Adler on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace (1998-2006), earning both commercial and critical success throughout the series' run. She has also received acclaim for her work as Molly Kagan in the cable series The Starter Wife (2007-2008) and as Julia Houston in the musical-drama series Smash (2012-2013). She currently stars at Detective Laura Diamond in The Mysteries of Laura on NBC.
Messing's film work includes Along Came Polly, The Wedding Date, and Nothing like the Holidays. She has also voiced roles in several animated films such as Garfield and Open Season.
Megan Kathleen Hilty (born March 29, 1981) is an American musical theatre and television actress, and singer. She rose to prominence for her roles in several Broadway musicals including her performance as Glinda in Wicked and her portrayal of Doralee Rhodes in 9 to 5: The Musical. Her best known role was as Ivy Lynn on the musical-drama TV series Smash, on which she sang many original songs, including the Grammy Award-nominated "Let Me Be Your Star". From 2013-2014, she appeared in the sitcom Sean Saves the World.
Hilty was born in Bellevue, Washington, and is the daughter of Jack and Donna Hilty. She began taking vocal lessons at the age of 12, and was interested in performing opera. She attended Sammamish High School in Bellevue, and then transferred to the Washington Academy of Performing Arts Conservatory High School in Redmond, and later the Chrysalis School, Woodinville. She graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2004, and is a member of Actors' Equity. She is a recipient of the National Society of Arts and Letters Award for Excellence in Musical Theater.
Smash is an American musical drama television series created by playwright Theresa Rebeck and developed by Robert Greenblatt for NBC. Steven Spielberg served as one of the executive producers. The series was broadcast in the US by NBC and produced by DreamWorks Television and Universal Television. The series revolves around a fictional New York City theater community and specifically the creation of a new Broadway musical. It features a large ensemble cast, led by Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, Andy Mientus and Anjelica Huston.
The show debuted on February 6, 2012, and its first season ended on May 14, 2012. Its second season premiered on February 5, 2013, and ended on May 26, 2013. NBC announced a change in their lineup in March 2013 and moved the show to Saturdays starting April 6, 2013. The series was officially cancelled on May 10, 2013. Second-season executive producer-show runner Josh Safran said the final episode of season two worked as a series finale.
Katharine Hope McPhee (born March 25, 1984) is an American actress, singer, and songwriter. She gained fame in May 2006 as the runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol.
Her self-titled debut album was released on RCA Records on January 30, 2007, and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 381,000 copies (as of December 2010). The album's first single, "Over It", was a Pop Top 30 hit and was certified gold in 2008. Her second album, Unbroken, was released on Verve Forecast Records on January 5, 2010, and debuted at No. 27 on the Billboard 200. The album featured the single "Had It All", which peaked at No. 22 on the AC chart. It has sold 45,000 copies as of January 2011. Her third album, the holiday-themed Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You, was released on October 12, 2010. The album debuted at number eleven on the Billboard Top Holiday Albums chart while the single "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" peaked at number sixteen on the Billboard AC chart. As of January 2011, this album has sold 23,000 copies. McPhee released her fourth album, Hysteria, on September 18, 2015.
