http://www.democracynow.org - Two Ithaca, New York, residents have been released on bond after refusing to answer questions about their immigration status as they attempted to board a domestic flight in Texas. Omar Figueredo and Nancy Morales were stopped twice by Border Patrol agents before they could proceed to a security checkpoint at an airport in Brownsville. Both times they refused to disclose their citizenship status. The first time, they missed their flight. After returning a second time and refusing to answer again, they were arrested by police and held for roughly seven hours. They documented both incidents on video. Democracy Now! spoke with Omar Figueredo after he was released on Tuesday.
Omar Figueredo: "What I was really trying to accomplish was to put into question the authority that the Border Patrol has to harass and to force people to answer questions that they don't have to answer when they're traveling within the 60-to-100-mile border zone in the U.S."
Both Omar Figueredo and Nancy Morales are U.S. citizens. Omar said his action was part of a larger trend of people refusing to answer what they say are unwarranted and racially targeted questions at Border Patrol checkpoints, and then uploading video footage online.

Airport
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for flights to take off and land. Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. Larger airports may have fixed base operator services, airport aprons, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as restaurants and lounges, and emergency services.
An airport with a helipad for rotorcraft but no runway is called a heliport. An airport for use by seaplanes and amphibious aircraft is called a seaplane base. Such a base typically includes a stretch of open water for takeoffs and landings, and seaplane docks for tying-up.
An international airport has additional facilities for customs and immigration.

An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. Orlando International Airport
Orlando International Airport (IATA: MCO, ICAO: KMCO, FAA LID: MCO) is an international airport six miles southeast of Orlando, Florida, United States. It is the second-busiest airport in the state of Florida the 13th-busiest airport in the United States and the 29th-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic.
The airport serves as a hub for Silver Airways, as well as a focus city for Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines is the airport's largest carrier by passengers carried. The airport also is a major international gateway for the mid Florida region, with flights by foreign air carriers.
The airport code MCO stands for the airport's former name, McCoy Air Force Base, a Strategic Air Command (SAC) installation, that was closed in 1975 as part of a general military drawdown following the end of the Vietnam War.

Both Omar Figueredo and Nancy Morales are U.S. citizens. Omar said his action was part of a larger trend of people refusing to answer what they say are unwarranted and racially targeted questions at Border Patrol checkpoints, and then uploading video footage online.

A federal judge blocked late Saturday the deportation of citizens of seven countries detained at U.S. airports after President Donald Trump's executive order the day before.
U.S. District Court Judge Ann Donnelly issued her injunction during an emergency hearing Saturday night in Brooklyn, N.Y., as several hundred people opposing Trump's order appeared outside the federal courthouse.
Demonstrators also protested outside many international airports, including John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, Dulles Airport outside Washington and O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Several travelers from Muslim-majority countries were being held at various airports.
The Kremlin has given a positive readout of the long-awaited phone call Saturday between President Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
Putin's overture to the United States to join forces in the fight against international terrorism was the main subject of the one-hour conversation, while thorny issues such as alleged Russian cyber-attacks on U.S. political parties or economic sanctions on Russia weren't mentioned.
Russian state television welcomed the change in tone between Washington and Moscow following open hostility in the last weeks of Barack Obama's presidency.

Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain revised her stance on the American directive to take a harder line, while Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni of Italy said that Mr. Trump’s approach ran counter to basic European principles.
The billionaire’s election victory has highlighted the prospect he could order the US to pull out of a nuclear pact which Barack Obama signed in 2015.
Trump was very critical of the agreement which allowed Iran to have sanctions lifted on its oil and industry finance in return for the country having its nuclear program limited.
In September last year, Trump said: “Any commander-in-chief worthy of defending this nation should be prepared to stand up on 20 January 2017 (inauguration day) and rip to shreds this catastrophic deal.”

The majority of the victims were Canadian citizens of Indian ancestry. The incident was the largest mass murder in Canadian history.The bombing of Air India 182 occurred at the same time as the Narita Airport bombing. Investigators believe that the two plots were linked, and that the group responsible was aiming for a double-bombing. However, the bomb at Narita exploded before it could be loaded onto the plane.
Canadian law enforcement determined that the main suspects in the bombing were members of the Sikh militant group Babbar Khalsa. The attack is thought to have been a retaliation against India for the operation carried out by the Indian Army Operation Blue Star to flush out several hundred Sikh who were within the premises of the Golden temple and the surrounding structures ordered by the Indian government, headed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Though a handful of members were arrested and tried, Inderjit Singh Reyat, a Canadian national, remains the only person legally convicted of involvement in the bombing. Singh pleaded guilty in 2003 to manslaughter. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for building the bombs that exploded aboard Flight 182 and at Narita.
The subsequent investigation and prosecution lasted almost twenty years and was the most expensive trial in Canadian history, costing nearly CAD $130 million.
The Governor General-in-Council in 2006 appointed the former Supreme Court Justice John Major to conduct a commission of inquiry. His report was completed and released on 17 June 2010. It concluded that a "cascading series of errors" by the government of Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) had allowed the terrorist attack to take place.

Singh pleaded guilty in 2003 to manslaughter. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for building the bombs that exploded aboard Flight 182 and at Narita.
The subsequent investigation and prosecution lasted almost twenty years and was the most expensive trial in Canadian history, costing nearly CAD $130 million.
The Governor General-in-Council in 2006 appointed the former Supreme Court Justice John Major to conduct a commission of inquiry. His report was completed and released on 17 June 2010. It concluded that a "cascading series of errors" by the government of Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) had allowed the terrorist attack to take place.

Otto Frederick Warmbier (born December 12, 1994)[1] is an American citizen who is incarcerated in North Korea after having been convicted and sentenced to 15 years' hard labor for "hostile acts against the DPRK". He was arrested over the alleged theft of a political propaganda poster, on January 2, 2016, during a backpacking tour in North Korea with an independent travel company.[
Warmbier travelled to North Korea as a tourist with the Young Pioneer Tours company on a backpacking tour. During his travel, he allegedly stole a propaganda sign from a staff-only area in the Yanggakdo International Hotel in Pyongyang, where he was staying along with around 100 other westerners, including other American citizens
On January 2, Warmbier was arrested while in the process of departing North Korea from the Pyongyang airport.[4] The other guests in his tour group all left the country without incident. His alleged crime was called an "act of hostility against the state" by the North Korean government. On February 29, 2016, he confessed to stealing a piece of North Korean propaganda to take back to the United States as a "trophy" for someone from his home-town church who offered to pay him for it with the gift of a car worth $10,000. The poster said, "Let's arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-il's patriotism!" Harming such items with the name or image of one of their revered leaders is considered a serious crime in North Korea. Kim Jong-il is the father of current leader Kim Jong-un
