Over Water
Over Water is a small lake or tarn in the north of the English Lake District near the village of Longlands. Although only a fifteen-minute drive from Keswick it is quieter than many of the better-known lakes. Binsey, Great Cockup and Longlands Fell overlook the lake.
Over Water was a small natural waterbody which was dammed in 1904 to increase its capacity. It now serves as a drinking water reservoir to supply the town of Wigton. The dam is at the northern end. Over Water supports a range of flora including water lilies and water lobelia.
The name of the tarn has developed and changed over time. It was recorded as 'Orre Water' in 1687, which derives from the Old Norse which means 'the lake where blackcock or grouse are found' or 'Orri's lake' ...ON 'orri' is a bird of the grouse family, but hence also a nickname and pers.[onal] n.[ame]."
There are many public footpaths offering access, with a 7.5-mile circular route beginning and ending at Over Water and taking in Ruthwaite, High Ireby, High Houses, Binsey and Binsey Lodge over a 950 ft elevation being one of the more well-trodden routes . (There is no public access around the lake itself as it is a SSSI - Site of Special Scientific Interest: the lake itself is owned by The National Trust; the lake shore is privately owned by a number of different landowners).

A visit to Townsville isn't complete without spending some time over on Magnetic Island. This tropical island offers a world of fun and adventure to experience, with over 20km of walking tracks and 23 bays and beaches to explore. The short quick trip over to Maggi (as it is affectionately called by the locals) is quite picturesque so is a good time to get your camera out. When we arrived we decided to hire a car from C:Drive Car Rentals as it is quite a large island and a car would make sure that we got around nice and easily. There are also buses if you don't want to hire a car. We had a pretty action packed day which was awesome, but I would suggest staying on the island a few days to really make the most of it. Savaii Samoa - Into Water & Beyond, holiday travel guide part 3/4
We caught the ferry over to Savaii to spend a few days. There are fales dotted all along the coastline so we thought that the best way to get in and experience the local lifestyle was to actually stay in a traditional fale. We stayed at Tanu Beach Fales and they provided a mattress and mosquito net and we slept right by the waters edge and went to sleep with the sound of the water lapping up on the sand. There is a lot to explore on this huge island and we visit the Saleaula Lava Field, swim with turtles at Satoalepai, throw coconuts in to the blow holes, cross the swinging bridge at Falealupo Canopy Walkway and hang out with some of the locals. There are fales dotted all along the coastline so we thought that the best way to get in and experience the local lifestyle was to actually stay in a traditional fale. We stayed at Tanu Beach Fales and they provided a mattress and mosquito net and we slept right by the waters edge and went to sleep with the sound of the water lapping up on the sand.
There is a lot to explore on this huge island and we visit the Saleaula Lava Field, swim with turtles at Satoalepai, throw coconuts in to the blow holes, cross the swinging bridge at Falealupo Canopy Walkway and hang out with some of the locals.
You can find beautiful romantic resorts in Savaii and we stayed at Le Lagoto Resort with a elegant mix of traditional and modern decor. As soon as you walk in to this resort you know you are in a tropical paradise.
A wonderful experience not to missed is their Sunday church service. Being a highly Christian country, there are churches of every denomination and Sunday is their day of church, family and rest. See the locals in their beautiful Sunday best and singing from the heart with their angelic voices.
And at the end of the day we head to Falealupo Beach which is at the western most point of Samoa to see the first sunset in the world. Take a picnic and enjoy your stunning surrounds.

Aggie Greys Resort ( www.aggiegreys.com ) is located close to the international airport so is the perfect place to stay after the flight and relax before embarking on your Samoan adventure. The rooms are comfortable and overlook the stunning lagoon area. They also provide free bottled water in the room.
We had an overnight flight so we freshened up before heading out for a dive with Aqua Samoa ( http://www.aquasamoa.com ) in the warm waters of the surrounding coral reefs and lagoons. The colourful plate corals were stunning and the warm water made for a comfortable and enjoyable dive.
Back at the resort it was time to relax and enjoy a few cocktails in the pool bar and on their secluded lagoon beach. There are a few different restaurants there to enjoy a meal at too.
Close to the resort is Manono Wharf, where you can head over to Manono Island for a day. It is only 4km from Upolu and you can jump on a boat to take you over there for as little as a few dollars per person, however these can be very infrequent with no real guaranteed departure times. So you can also organise a private boat for a return journey from about SAT$60. Visiting the island is like taking a step back in time and there are no dogs or cars there, only a walking track that takes you around the island and the 4 villages that make up this island. There is also overnight accommodation f you want to stay longer and really get in to the traditional lifestyle there and escape the outside world for a few days.
We then head in to Apia, Samoa's capital city. This is a buzzing and vibrant city with a lot going on. We stayed at the iconic Aggie Greys Hotel while here. This hotel is one of the longest running in Samoa and has a very rich history. We were also lucky enought o be here on their Fia Fia Cultural night, which is an extravaganza of traditional dancing, music and food ( http://www.aggiegreys.com )

Samoa still practice many of their traditional cultures and to get a close experience of these you can visit the STA Cultural Village to do their tour. This tour will take you around and show you many of their still practiced traditions including their tattooing.
There is also an abundance of natural beauty and great swimming spots to visit. The island is dotted with stunning waterfalls where you can even go swimming at their base.
If you enjoy snorkeling, head to the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve. You will need to take your own snorkel gear and walk out the deep hole. You will find pretty corals and loads of fish. And you might even be lucky enough to have a turtle swim past you.
We go for a swim is at the Piula Cave Pools which are natural fresh water swimming holes that are right on the oceans edge. You can swim in to the cave and down through a submerged hole to pop up in the swimming hole on the other side.
We also had the opportunity to learn how tapa cloth was made in their traditional way. This was a very important part of their culture and this tapa cloth was once worn by the important people of the village.
We were very surprised at the dining options available in Samoa and ventured in to Paddles restaurant for an excellent dinner. The food was fantastic but my favourite part was the owners who really made this venue stand out from the rest.
For a bit of shopping you can head to the Savalalo Flea Markets and there is everything this to keep a girl happy.
There are also many stunning beaches in Samoa and we spend a few hours enjoying Lalomanu before heading to the Seebreeze Resort for the night. This exclusive resort is incredibly stunning and romantic and the perfect place for couples.

And now, a plan to divert millions of gallons of water away from cities and agriculture is promising to make the state’s water wars even more explosive. I am the founder of the Wheeling Water Warriors, a grassroots group formed last April to oppose the GreenHunter fracking wastewater plant which is located on the Ohio River, 1.2 miles upriver from the main water intake for all of Ohio County.

In addition to two rallies, and appearances at our City Council meetings, we organized the Great Ohio River Relay, which took a Baton 341 miles, through 4 states, in 11 days, with NO fossil fuels. It was to educate and bring awareness to the issue of fracking and fossil fuel extraction in our communities.
My background: I was born in LA, and raised by two jazz musicians in the Big Apple, so I've lived with and know pollution. I hold a BA in psychology, with a minor in sociology from Hunter College of the City University of NY. I also hold a Master's in Social Work from Adelphi University, and attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years toward a PhD in Social Work, and a Master's in Public Health. I am a mother of four, and moved from NY to WV to provide a cleaner, more natural setting for my children to grow up. I was an activist as a teenager, marching against the war in Vietnam, and was involved in many community organizations and actions while I lived in NY. My husband and I are "Uncle Eddie and Robin", an eclectic musical duo, performing original songs about the environment and social justice. We were involved in the early days of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
