Cape Maclear (or Chembe) is a town in the Mangochi District of Malawi's Southern Region. The town, situated on the Nankumba Peninsula, is on the southern shore of Lake Malawi and is the busiest resort on Lake Malawi. Cape Maclear is close to the islands of Domwe and Thumbwe on Lake Malawi, and is in Lake Malawi National Park.

In June I had the privilege to cooperate with the tourism Board of Malawi and work with a number of Malawian tourist companies to promote their services online, through shooting videos for their circulation on Youtube and websites.
I traveled with my friend David Martin around the Blantyre region and then joined a number of missionaries in the northern district of Livingstonia.
This video is a combination of what happened behind the scenes when traveling to film for the organisations I had links with.
Malawi is a country with so much beauty and potential. However Malawi is among the worlds least developed countries, with most of its economy based in agriculture. The people I met were wonderful and I hope that this trip will have helped at least someone in the long run.

This was filmed using a Canon S120 which broke 14 days in after kayaking on Lake Malawi and the rest was done on a couple of Go-Pro Hero 3’s.

Vacation travel video about destination Malawi in Africa.
Malawi is the unknown Africa in the south-east of the Continent. A wild country between sea and highlands, a land of contrasts with amazing green mountains and high plateaus but most of all, Lake Malawi.In the north west and on the border with Zambia is the thousand square kilometre Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve, home to more than two hundred elephants who, in small groups, visit the Kazuni Safari Camp on their way to the lake. In the Lake Kazuni area there are many hippos and crocodiles which although rarely seen from the shore can certainly be heard at night. The location of the small town of Nkhata Bay is quite spectacular, a large, sheltered bay, accessible via a steep slope. Small boats transport the local people to various locations so that they can buy and sell, as there are hardly any roads around the lake. A restless, colourful and vibrant harbour town and the northernmost point which famous explorer Dr. David Livingstone reached on his historic voyage of discovery. Cichlids, the living jewels of Lake Malawi, are highly sought after among aquatic fish enthusiasts, the brightly coloured males achieving the highest prices. Provided with a good supply of oxygen and a light sedative in the water, once a month the fish are taken to the airport. The craggy rock scenery of Lake Malawi was not always below water. Only when the southern section of the East African Rift Valley filled with water did it become home to cichlids. On the extreme south east coast on the border with Mozambique is Mount Mulanje, a huge mountain range that formed during volcanic activity more than a hundred and thirty million years ago. At the foot of the mountain scenery grows one of the world’s finest varieties of tea. The Maravi Kingdom eventually became an independent country, Malawi, the warm and beating heart of Africa!

Malawi (/məˈlɔːwi/, /məˈlɑːwi/ or /ˈmæləwi/; Chichewa: [maláβi] or [maláwi]), officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi. Malawi is over 118,000 km2 (45,560 sq mi) with an estimated population of 16,777,547 (July 2013 est.). Its capital is Lilongwe, which is also Malawi's largest city; the second largest is Blantyre and the third is Mzuzu. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people that inhabit the area. The country is also nicknamed "The Warm Heart of Africa".
Malawi is among the smallest countries in Africa. Lake Malawi takes about a third of Malawi's area.

In June I had the privilege to cooperate with the tourism Board of Malawi and work with a number of Malawian tourist companies to promote their services online, through shooting videos for their circulation on Youtube and websites.
I traveled with my friend David Martin around the Blantyre region and then joined a number of missionaries in the northern district of Livingstonia.
This video is a combination of what happened behind the scenes when traveling to film for the organisations I had links with.
Malawi is a country with so much beauty and potential. However Malawi is among the worlds least developed countries, with most of its economy based in agriculture. The people I met were wonderful and I hope that this trip will have helped at least someone in the long run.

This was filmed using a Canon S120 which broke 14 days in after kayaking on Lake Malawi and the rest was done on a couple of Go-Pro Hero 3’s.

Vacation travel video about destination Malawi in Africa.
Malawi is the unknown Africa in the south-east of the Continent. A wild country between sea and highlands, a land of contrasts with amazing green mountains and high plateaus but most of all, Lake Malawi.In the north west and on the border with Zambia is the thousand square kilometre Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve, home to more than two hundred elephants who, in small groups, visit the Kazuni Safari Camp on their way to the lake. In the Lake Kazuni area there are many hippos and crocodiles which although rarely seen from the shore can certainly be heard at night. The location of the small town of Nkhata Bay is quite spectacular, a large, sheltered bay, accessible via a steep slope. Small boats transport the local people to various locations so that they can buy and sell, as there are hardly any roads around the lake. A restless, colourful and vibrant harbour town and the northernmost point which famous explorer Dr. David Livingstone reached on his historic voyage of discovery. Cichlids, the living jewels of Lake Malawi, are highly sought after among aquatic fish enthusiasts, the brightly coloured males achieving the highest prices. Provided with a good supply of oxygen and a light sedative in the water, once a month the fish are taken to the airport. The craggy rock scenery of Lake Malawi was not always below water. Only when the southern section of the East African Rift Valley filled with water did it become home to cichlids. On the extreme south east coast on the border with Mozambique is Mount Mulanje, a huge mountain range that formed during volcanic activity more than a hundred and thirty million years ago. At the foot of the mountain scenery grows one of the world’s finest varieties of tea. The Maravi Kingdom eventually became an independent country, Malawi, the warm and beating heart of Africa!

Nov 2007 Africa is in the grip of a medical crisis because its doctors are being lured away by lucrative jobs in Europe. Malawi now only has one doctor for every 50,000 people. "We are working under very difficult conditions. It's like we are in a war", laments Robert Lapyam Ayella, the only doctor at Mulanje District Hospital. As he goes from bed to bed, patients and staff clamour for his attention. But there are too many people for him to see and he lacks the proper drugs and equipment to treat them. Africa is in the grip of a medical crisis because its doctors are being lured away by lucrative jobs in Europe. Malawi now only has one doctor for every 50,000 people.
"We are working under very difficult conditions. It's like we are in a war", laments Robert Lapyam Ayella, the only doctor at Mulanje District Hospital. As he goes from bed to bed, patients and staff clamour for his attention. But there are too many people for him to see and he lacks the proper drugs and equipment to treat them. "You reach a point of frustration and just say 'what am I doing here?'" In some Malawian hospitals, clinical officers without the proper training are working as doctors or surgeons. "I usually work 24 hour shifts in the emergency department", states clinical officer Stanley Chimabaui. Malawi's few remaining health workers also have to battle an AIDS pandemic. Africa is in the grip of a medical crisis because its doctors are being lured away by lucrative jobs in Europe. Malawi now only has one doctor for every 50,000 people.
"We are working under very difficult conditions. It's like we are in a war", laments Robert Lapyam Ayella, the only doctor at Mulanje District Hospital. As he goes from bed to bed, patients and staff clamour for his attention. But there are too many people for him to see and he lacks the proper drugs and equipment to treat them. "You reach a point of frustration and just say 'what am I doing here?'" In some Malawian hospitals, clinical officers without the proper training are working as doctors or surgeons. "I usually work 24 hour shifts in the emergency department", states clinical officer Stanley Chimabaui. Malawi's few remaining health workers also have to battle an AIDS pandemic. And the problem looks set to get worse. 25% of the country's health staff are expected to die of HIV/AIDS in the next decade. The bank sees growth at 1.1 percent in 2017. The country is grappling with rising public debt, inflationary pressures and weak business sentiments by investors.

The Republic of Malawi is a landlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast and Mozambique, which surrounds it on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, one of the original Bantu tribes to inhabit the area.
Malawi was first settled during the 10th century and remained under native rule until 1891 when it was colonized by the British, who ruled the country until 1964. Upon gaining independence it became a single-party state under the presidency of Hastings Banda, who remained president until 1994, when he was ousted from power. Bingu Mutharika, elected in 2004, is the current president, and as of 2008, Malawi has a democratic, multi-party government. Malawi has a small military force that includes an army, a navy and an air wing. Malawi's foreign policy is pro-Western and includes positive diplomatic relations with most countries and participation in several international organizations.
Malawi is among the world's least developed and most densely populated countries. The economy is heavily based in agriculture, with a largely rural population. The Malawian government depends heavily on outside aid to meet development needs, although this need (and the aid offered) has decreased since 2000. The Malawian government faces challenges in growing the economy, improving education, health care and the environmental protection and becoming financially independent. Malawi has several programs developed since 2005 that focus on these issues, and the country's outlook appears to be improving, with improvements in economic growth, education and healthcare seen in 2007 and 2008.
Malawi has a low life expectancy and high infant mortality. There is a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, which is a drain on the labor force and government expenditures, and is expected to have a significant impact on gross domestic product (GDP) by 2010. There is a diverse population of native peoples, Asians and Europeans, with several languages spoken and an array of religious beliefs. Although there was tribal conflict in the past, by 2008 it had diminished considerably and the concept of a Malawian nationality had begun to form. Malawi has a culture combining native and colonial aspects, including sports, art, dance and music.

About Africa Festival : Africa is a vast continent and its regions and nations have distinct forms of traditional dance and music. The council has been encouraging regular cultural interaction with Africa. In April 2008, a 2-day cultural event entitled 'A Tribute to Africa' was organized, on the margins of the Africa summit in new Delhi. 12 countries from Africa participated in the event, with troupes from Algiers, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
The ICCR was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India's first Education Minister. The Council helps formulate and implement policies pertaining to India's external cultural relations, to foster mutual understanding between India and other countries and to promote cultural exchanges with other peoples.
Calabar is located on the bank of the Calabar River in confluence with the Cross River at the Southeast Region of Nigeria. With population estimated at 240 million, it is also the capital of Cross River State . The people living here are the Efiks known for their artistic skills, rich food, culture and traditions. Their main occupation is Agriculture.
As one of the first regions invaded by the British, Calabar became the first capital of Nigeria and an important Niger delta trading state in the 19th century. It served as a seaport exporting rubber, palm oil, cocoa and timber.
Calabar is an educational center that homes of one of the major universities in Nigeria, University of Calabar (UNICAL).
One of the four cultural centers in Nigeria where most of the families in Calabar are involved in the development of culture ensuring that their children maintain and preserve the Efik cultural traditions.

Improving health in Malawi: MaiMwana Project (UCL)
UCL is hosting an exhibition of photographs chronicling the university's involvement in a project to improve mother and and child health in rural Africa. The UCL Centre for International Health and Development established the MaiMwana Project in Malawi in 2002. Maternal mortality in the country is among the highest in the world and neonatal mortality is also high and accounts for almost half of all infant deaths. High mortality rates are partly a result of poor health care for mothers and their children thanks to a lack of drugs and supplies, high turnover of health service providers, variable service quality and lack of ownership by local communities. The MaiMwana Project aims to reduce mother and child mortality and morbidity by mobilising women's groups in local communities... -
Strengthening Malawi's Health System with PALM+
One of the major challenges in providing quality care for patients in low-resource settings like sub-Saharan Africa is the severe shortage of health workers. This situation is further compounded in rural areas, where health workers find themselves overwhelmed with long patient queues, inadequate training and no support. To help address this issue, Dignitas International, along with our partners in Malawi and at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute's Knowledge Translation Unit, worked to develop a toolkit and training model known as PALM+ (Practical Approach to Lung Health + HIV/AIDS in Malawi).
