D is an Indian crime drama and thriller film, directed by Vishram Sawant, co-written by Manish Gupta, and Ram Gopal Varma. Produced by Ram Gopal Varma, and Ronnie Screwvala. It was released in India on 3 June 2005. The third film in the Gangster (film series). The film is a sequel to Varma's 2002 film Company. Like its predecessor, D is based on the real-life Mumbai underworld organization, the D-Company. The three Varma films Satya, Company and D are together considered an Indian Gangster Trilogy, comparable to the Godfather Trilogy or Infernal Affairs trilogy.
Deshu (Randeep Hooda) is a mechanic in Dubai, who has come home after his mother's death. His father is a dry, gruff police constable. Deshu unwittingly becomes a witness to a murder, when Mangli Bhai's goons chase a man, burst into his chawl, and proceed to kill the man right there. Roughened up by the police to act as a witness, and threatened by the goons to not do so, Deshu keeps his mouth shut. Later, he joins a rival gang (Hashim Bhai's), and proceeds to kill Mangli. Little by little, with his bravery and intelligence he manages to become Bhai's right-hand man, much to the dismay of his two sons, Muqarram and Shabbir.

Plot: Frictions develop when Yisroel "Izzy" Jonigkeyt, a Chassidic Jew from Crown Heights, travels to San Francisco to visit Polish-born Catholic friend Marek Wisniewski with the intent of discovering why a Bay Area art-world iconoclast named Harry Kierk seeks to destroy a lifetime's worth of his own work. As the visit progresses, Izzy and Marek discover for the first time that complex historical baggage impinges on their curious friendship and, soon, they begin to understand why Kierk is driven towards destruction. Continued encounters with Marek's vaguely anti-Semitic cousin Irek (who is their only gateway to contact Kierk) only compound these tensions.

Plot: D, Dante, Ash and Ashleigh leave all behind as a way of escaping the brutal environment that surrounds them until alienation, infidelity, and poorly-made plans drag them back. Anomie portrays the idea of multiple selves. We all see and define the world differently depending on which mask we have on. Each character personifies a different side of the mind, whether it's the egomaniac or the introvert in the male psyche, or the naive innocent verses the stoic in the female's. Also, the film examines domestic abuse and the apathy or indifference of those surrounding it. Another theme interwoven in this film is bridging the gap in the artist's mind between real life and what is put on the page.
