There was no shortage of hulking swaglords in the '90s, but Mike Piazza was in rarefied air. He entered the league with a feathered mullet and pencil-thin goatee, a look that served as an appropriately strapping precursor to his incredible baseball career. Recently, Complex News had the opportunity to sit down with the greatest hitting catcher in MLB history to talk about his fascinating style evolution, from a young, unkempt slugger to a baby-faced spokesman for clean shaving.
Oh, and lest you think we wasted a sitdown with Piazza by roasting old baseball cards, we also covered the MLB Winter Meetings. You can watch that interview embedded below.

The start of the MLB season is still more than three months away, but—as the 2014 Winter Meetings close—there are a few teams that feel like they're on a winning streak. In Chicago, the Cubs became 12-1 odds to win the World Series after signing Jon Lester and pilfering head coach Joe Maddon from Tampa Bay. Across town, the White Sox added Jeff Samardzija, closer David Robertson, and a left-handed slugger in Melky Cabrera. The Dodgers completely overhauled one of the best teams in the National League, which included trading the team's most popular play to San Diego. And, wouldn't you know it, another record contract was signed, as Miami's Giancarlo Stanton inked a 13-year, $325M contract.
To help us make sense of it all, Complex News called on 12x MLB All-Star Mike Piazza. Here's the greatest hitting catcher of all time on Stanton's payday, Kemp's move to the Padres, and realistic expectations for the 2015 Chicago Cubs.

Mike Piazza on Matt Kemp, Giancarlo Stanton, and a Chicago Cubs World Series from Complex.
wn.com/Mike Piazza On Matt Kemp, Giancarlo Stanton, And A Chicago Cubs World Series

“Yes, I was at Parma,” Piazza told the Italian daily in a phone interview he visited Parma and was interested but the former Major League All Star couldn't say a deal will go through.”
The Ducali, who were relegated after finishing bottom of Serie A this year, were declared bankrupt by an Italian court in March. Previously, the club was twice docked points this season for breaking financial regulations – having failed to pay their players’ wages since July 2014 – and saw their president Giampietro Manenti arrested on charges of embezzlement and money-laundering.
The club can only register for the upcoming Serie B season if they find a buyer willing to wipe out their debt, which is estimated to be €22.2m ($24.7m), in a 9 June auction.

Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced on January 19, 2000, that the 30 Major League club owners voted unanimously to centralize all of Baseball's internet operations into an independent technology company. Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) was formed and charged with developing, building and managing the most comprehensive baseball experience available on the internet. In August 2002, MLB.com streamed the first-ever live, full length MLB game when the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees faced off at Yankee Stadium. Since that time, millions of baseball fans around the world have subscribed to MLB.TV, the live video streaming product that airs every game in HD to nearly 400 different devices. MLB.com also provides an array of mobile apps for fans to choose from, including At Bat, the highest-grossing iOS sports app of all-time. MLB.com features a stable of club beat reporters and award-winning national columnists, the largest contingent of baseball reporters under one roof, who deliver over 100 original articles every day. MLB.com also offers extensive historical information and footage, online ticket sales, official baseball merchandise, authenticated memorabilia and collectibles and fantasy games.

New York Yankees 4 at New York Mets 2, F -- The Yankees held a three-games-to-one advantage as the modern-day Subway Series headed into Game 5 at Shea. Through eight, each club had pushed across just two runs against tough pitching -- the Yanks picking up solo home runs by Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter, and the Mets scoring two unearned against starter Andy Pettitte. Mets starter Al Leiter was still on the mound heading into the ninth, when the Yankees, taking advantage of a few unusual plays and a clutch, two-out single from veteran Luis Sojo, scored two runs. Bottom nine: Enter Sandman. Mariano Rivera took the mound and with Mike Piazza up as the tying run with two outs, got him to fly out to the deepest part of the ballpark for the last out, and the Yankees' third consecutive World Series title (and fourth in five seasons), putting the finishing touches on their 26th Championship and their end-of-the-century dynasty.
