2014 Primetime Emmy Winners Recap: Breaking Bad Wins Big!

There were certainly a few surprises during the evening’s festivities, as can be expected so let’s get started with the two of the biggest awards of the night – Outstanding Series. Modern Family won its fifth, yes FIFTH, consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Comedy, and we have to admit, a lot of people in this office are bummed it won over Orange Is the New Black. But hey, whatever, all of the nominees freaking rock? And for drama, it’s safe to say that ZERO percent of people were surprised, but Breaking Bad won for Outstanding Drama, and deservedly so. But you guys, we obviously have to talk about the actors IN the winning show’s because let’s be real, where would the shows be without them? Every single person who works on a series is importante! The Good Wife’s Julianna Margulies scored the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a drama, while Bryan Cranston won for Outstanding Lead Actor, finishing out his Breaking Bad career on a definite high note. As for the comedic acting categories, Jim Parsons won yet again for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy for The Big Bang Theory while Julia Louis Dreyfus won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for her role on the hit HBO show Veep. And it wasn’t her win that was surprising, but what happened on her way to actually accept the award. She freaking made out with Bryan Cranston! Only these two could get away with that for a comedy bit. Speaking of Bryan Cranston can we just say YEAH BITCH because Aaron Paul won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Drama for Breaking Bad! YESSS JESSE PINKMAN! And as for the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama it was another Breaking Bad victory as Anna Gunn won that award for the second year in a row. Bryan, Jesse, Anna AND the show winning?! Talk about going out with a bang! Moving right along to the supporting acting awards for comedy, Allison Janney won the Emmy for her role on the CBS sitcom Mom while Ty Burrell continued his two-year winning streak thanks to his hilarious portrayal of Phil Dunphy on Modern Family. The Amazing Race scored its 10th win in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program, while FX’s freshman series Fargo beat out American Horror Story: Coven and Sherlock, among others, to win Outstanding Miniseries. For the acting categories in that particular section, Jessica Lange won for Outstanding Lead Actress for American Horror Story: Coven and Benedict Cumberbatch was victorious in the Outstanding Lead Actor category for Sherlock beating out Mark Ruffalo and Martin Freeman among others. Also, Ryan Murphy won big thanks to The Normal Heart nabbing the trophy for Outstanding TV Movie and he gave a beautiful speech as he was joined by the play’s original writer, Larry Kramer. There was yet another American Horror Story: Coven win thanks to Kathy Bates scoring the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries/TV Movie, and she truly seemed surprised to win. Also, Martin Freeman won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries/TV Movie for his role on Sherlock.
