"In My Room" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Gary Usher for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1963 album Surfer Girl. It was also released as the B-side of the "Be True to Your School" single. The single peaked at number 23 in the U.S. (the A-side peaked at number 6, for a two-sided top-40) and was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. "In My Room" was ranked number 212 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Gary Usher explained that
Gary Usher (who co-wrote the lyrics with Brian Wilson) further describes that "Brian was always saying that his room was his whole world." Brian seconds this opinion: "I had a room, and I thought of it as my kingdom. And I wrote that song, very definitely, that you're not afraid when you're in your room. It's absolutely true."
In 1990, Brian wrote,
The 1993 CD box set, Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of The Beach Boys, contains an early version of "In My Room" with a number of differences from the eventual official release. It is unclear if this fully developed demo was recorded the same day as the final version on July 16, 1963. The tune features six Beach Boys: both Al Jardine (on vocals) and David Marks (whose strumming guitar backs up Carl Wilson's picked solo notes) are present. This was the last of eight charting songs to include Marks until nearly 50 years later, performing on 2012's That's Why God Made the Radio.

"In My Room" is the second episode of season one of the television sitcom Grounded for Life. It first aired on Wednesday January 17, 2001, on FOX.
Sean inadvertently finds a fake ID in Lily's bedroom. Sean and Claudia confront their daughter about her rebellious behavior, but they get few answers. They decide to hack into her e-mail to find out more about Lily's trouble-making friends. While they are checking, an e-mail comes in from a "SweetandNastee." Sean responds, pretending to be Lily. SweetandNastee gives Sean an address to a rave party in Yonkers. Sean and Eddie go to the address which turns out to be a dry cleaners. Convinced the rave is really at the dry cleaners, Sean and Eddie try to gain access to the party but end up getting beaten up by the dry cleaners' owner. Back at home, Sean and Claudia confront Lily, but she slams them for invading her privacy. It is revealed she knew they broke into her e-mail account because she was online at a friend's house when she saw her name logged in. Lily makes up the rave to teach her folks a lesson about snooping.

I ought to sink into places I find that I don’t know
Remember my old shoes
Some spaces were made to be outgrown
And if I fill up that table in my head
I think I’ll find all of the countless ways I could make up for lost time
Made to be a better thing picking up the parts
It’s a long long ways away
But I used to be a little bit hard to carry on
I had to be out of the way
But I still believe in everything
Even in my flaws
They’re a problem I can take
But I tried to be a better thing
But it’s taking me a lot
Recovering all my strength
In my room there’s a storm that will calm when I’m through
Find my ways between lines that I drew
These are my thoughts in a long form
And I have the mindset to deconstruct you
Filled with the clouds in my eyes that I knew
I take the worst I can find and consume
This is the dark, but it feels warm
And I try my best to see right through you
I remember none of it
Taking to my thoughts
It’s a solid I’ll escape
Stable for a little bit only to belong
But belonging gets so fake
I'll slip into another place laying on the lawn
Though this time feeling gray
I tried to live a better way
Tell me where I’m from
Settled in my daze
In my room there’s a storm that will calm when I’m through
Find my ways between lines that I drew
These are my thoughts in a long form
And I have the mindset to deconstruct you
Filled with the clouds in my eyes that I knew
I take the worst I can find and consume
This is the dark, but it feels warm
