The Outfield

The Outfield were an English rock band based in Manchester, England. They had an unusual experience for a British band in that they enjoyed commercial success in the U.S., but never in their homeland. The band began recording during the mid-1980s, and released its first album, Play Deep, in 1985 through Columbia Records. The album reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 list and then reached triple platinum in America. The band's single "Your Love" reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as No. 7 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and it became its signature song. It went on to be featured in a number of 80s-themed compilation albums, and over 1,000 covers and remixes by other artists have been released physically and/or online. The other singles "Say It Isn't So" and "Everytime You Cry" also made it into the top 20 on the Mainstream Rock chart.

The band continued to record and tour through the 1980s and then into the early 1990s. While their second album, Bangin', hit the top 20 on the Billboard 200 list and had both singles hit the Top 40 Mainstream Rock chart, the group began losing their popular audience by their third album, Voices of Babylon, in 1989. Drummer Alan Jackman left and, now as a duo, they recorded Diamond Days in 1991. After the disappointing response to their 1992 album Rockeye, which represented a shift towards progressive rock and arena rock, the group essentially disbanded in the 90s. They resumed touring in 1998, and thereafter released two live albums via their website, along with a new studio album, Any Time Now, released by Sidewinder Records in March 2006. In 2009, original drummer Alan Jackman announced he was returning to The Outfield and the band would be recording a new album. The band's latest album, Replay, was released on June 28, 2011 and constituted a comeback to their traditional power pop sound. It produced two No. 1 regional chart hits in "California Sun" and "A Long, Long Time Ago".

Lovin' You

"Lovin' You" is a 1975 hit single originally performed by American singer Minnie Riperton. The song became a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 5, 1975. Additionally, it reached #2 in the UK, and #3 on the R&B chart in the U.S. Billboard ranked it as the No. 13 song for 1975. It is especially noteworthy for Riperton singing in the very high whistle register in the bridge of the song. It is also noteworthy for the sound of the chirping songbirds that are heard throughout the song.

Setting

It was the fourth single from the album Perfect Angel (1974). As with the rest of the album, the keyboard backing is played by Stevie Wonder (credited as "El Toro Negro", Spanish for the black bull, as Wonder is a Taurus.).

"Lovin' You" was among the first of several songs to top the U.S. pop chart without the help of a percussion instrument. Prior examples of percussion-less Number Ones were Jim Croce – "Time in a Bottle" (1973), The Beatles – "Yesterday" (1965), and on the UK Singles Chart, The Beatles – "Eleanor Rigby" (1966).

I'm Lovin' You

"I'm Lovin' You" (stylised as "I'm lovin' you") is Japanese/Korean musician Iconiq's debut Japanese solo single, a duet with Exile vocalist Atsushi. It was released on January 27, 2010 as a digital download to cellphones, as well as a special release CD in rental stores, featuring shortened versions of "I'm Lovin' You" and Iconiq's second digital single, "Change Myself."

Writing

The song is an upbeat R&B song, described in the press as "a love story about the moment when friends become lovers." The lyrics are observations by two different people, who see each other and wish that they were each other's partner. Iconiq and Atsushi collaborated because they wanted to create similar types of music. Atsushi thought a collaboration would be interesting, due to the pair having the same hairstyle.

Promotion

"I'm Lovin' You" was first unveiled in a commercial for Shiseido's Maquillage cosmetics line, featuring actress Juri Ueno, in late November 2009. At the time, large-scale billboard showcasing Iconiq's image began to appear around Japan. The song was released at Recochoku on December the 9th, 2009, where it became the most popular at Recochoku for an entire week, the first time a debut artist has achieved this. By late January, the song had been downloaded as a ringtone approximately 300,000 times.

Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler (/ɛnˈriːkeɪ ɪˈɡlɛsiəs/; Spanish: [enˈrike iˈɣlesjas]) (born 8 May 1975), is a Spanish recording artist and record producer. He is widely regarded as the King of Latin Pop. Iglesias started his career in the mid-1990s on an American Spanish Language record label Fonovisa under the name Enrique Martinez, before switching to the stage name Enrique Iglesias, and turning into one of the biggest stars in Latin America and the Hispanic Market in the United States. By the turn of the millennium, he had made a successful crossover into the mainstream market and signed a multi-album deal with Universal Music Group for US $68,000,000 with Universal Music Latino to release his Spanish albums and Interscope to release English albums. In 2010, he parted with Interscope and signed with another Universal Music Group label Republic Records to release bilingual albums. In 2015, Enrique parted ways with Universal music group after a decade. He signed for Sony Music and it has been reported that it is one of the biggest contracts offered to any artist in recent years in terms of advances and royalties. His upcoming albums will be by Sony Music Latin in Spanish and RCA in English.
