Mack Sennett (born Michael Sinnott; January 17, 1880 – November 5, 1960) was a Canadian-born American director and actor and was known as the innovator of slapstick comedy in film. During his lifetime he was known at times as the "King of Comedy". His short Wrestling Swordfish was awarded the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 1932 and he earned an Academy Honorary Award in 1937.
Born Michael Sinnott in Richmond Ste-Bibiane Parish, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of Irish Catholic John Sinnott and Catherine Foy, married 1879 in Tingwick St-Patrice Parish (Québec). The newlyweds moved the same year to Richmond, where John Sinnott was hired as a laborer. By 1883, when Michael's brother George was born, John Sinnott was working in Richmond as an innkeeper; he worked as an innkeeper for many years afterward. John Sinnott and Catherine Foy had all their children and raised their family in Richmond, then a small Eastern Townships village. At that time, Michael's grandparents were living in Danville, Québec. When he was 17, Michael Sinnott moved to Connecticut.
Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby, Jr. (May 3, 1903 – October 14, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Crosby's trademark warm bass-baritone voice made him the best-selling recording artist of the 20th century, having sold over one billion records, tapes, compact discs and digital downloads around the world.
The first multimedia star, from 1931 to 1954 Crosby was a leader in record sales, radio ratings, and motion picture grosses. His early career coincided with technical recording innovations such as the microphone. This allowed him to develop a laid-back, intimate singing style that influenced many of the popular male singers who followed him, including Perry Como,Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. Yank magazine recognized Crosby as the person who had done the most for American G.I. morale during World War II and, during his peak years, around 1948, American polls declared him the "most admired man alive", ahead of Jackie Robinson and Pope Pius XII. Also in 1948, the Music Digest estimated that Crosby recordings filled more than half of the 80,000 weekly hours allocated to recorded radio music.
William Claude Dukenfield (January 29, 1880 – December 25, 1946), better known as W. C. Fields, was an American comedian, actor, juggler and writer. Fields' comic persona was a misanthropic and hard-drinking egotist, who remained a sympathetic character despite his snarling contempt for dogs and children.
His career in show business began in vaudeville, where he attained international success as a silent juggler. He gradually incorporated comedy into his act, and was a featured comedian in the Ziegfeld Follies for several years. He became a star in the Broadway musical comedy Poppy (1923), in which he played a colorful small-time con man. His subsequent stage and film roles were often similar scoundrels, or else henpecked everyman characters.
Among his recognizable trademarks were his raspy drawl and grandiloquent vocabulary. The characterization he portrayed in films and on radio was so strong it was generally identified with Fields himself. It was maintained by the publicity departments at Fields' studios (Paramount and Universal) and was further established by Robert Lewis Taylor's biography, W.C. Fields, His Follies and Fortunes (1949). Beginning in 1973, with the publication of Fields' letters, photos, and personal notes in grandson Ronald Fields' book W.C. Fields by Himself, it was shown that Fields was married (and subsequently estranged from his wife), and financially supported their son and loved his grandchildren.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. History was written at the time of this talk (August - 2014) when for the first time in the history of mankind a manmade object met "meet up with" a comet deep into space. After 10 years of travel to its destination - the satelite would launch a small probe that would land on this comet, and do its measures. Pictures from a comet - without a tail - was for the first time taken. The event is a large one - especially for astronomers. Pål Brekke took the challenge to deliver this exciting news at TEDxArendal on short notice - The pictures and music in the beginning was to set a mood for the topic as a small mental and visual break as well. Pål Brekke is a Norwegian solar physicist astrophysicist. He is...

Mindfulness helps us reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, and this is especially important in busy modern life. The simple act of taking a moment to relax and focus on the here and now helps get us out of autopilot, and makes us more aware of how and what we are feeling. Working together with our chosen charity, the Mental Health Foundation, Virgin Trains have produced a series of ‘Slow TV’ films for our free onboard entertainment app BEAM. A train journey can be an excellent time to unwind, and take a moment to appreciate our ‘inner weather’. These films feature real-time stunning scenery of our West and East Coast routes, and views that would normally only be available from the driver’s cab. We hope that these films will act as an introduction to mindfulness, creating a relaxed a...

Be strong like a mountain
Stay still like the sky and the earth
And retain control of power at all times
The sky, the earth and the mountains are unmoved
As unmoved is the world of living beings
And this king of men
There will come a golden dawn
When the fire covers the lands
Wrath will burn in the hearts
Swords will hold all the hands
A new era coming slowly of
Those who know and those who belive
The power of a new middle age is needed
A barbaric purity
Columns of a new era rising
The ancient walls stand again
The will of hierarchy
In the hearts of men
As stars above the mountains
As fires upon the hills we shine
Unleash the fire and the thunder
Release the eagle again
Rising the power of elders
The new dawning of men
Dawn of might and splendor
Ewoke the gods of war
By the fire of burning temples
Pagan way we pray
